@Steve Kovaleski Uh, no. She didn't pick his name. She said it herself. "He'll tell us what he wants to be called." I have to agree with Hello about how the dad said Beethoven.
Been a cat owner all my life, but if I have a dog, it'll be called Beethoven. Classic childhood film this. Loved it as a kid and still do now at the age of 28.
"You asked for my input." I think it's often overlooked how Charles Grodin takes the simplest of roles and elevates the whole film with it. Repeatedly.
You have to wonder how they manage to train that puppy to bark like that or if it was really the puppy not just put. Because the dog really does sound like he's barking the song.
Charles Grodin just died... Which is the person who played as George in Beethoven.. This makes me want to adopt a St Benard and teach him how to wonder all over the neighborhood and call him Beethoven and I'll wait until he gets older so he can have puppies and i'll name them after beethovens puppies because he had puppies in the second movie 1 ▼
Mandela effect: I could’ve sworn they asked for the name Hammerhead rather than MC Hammer. Speaking of which, calling your dog MC Hammer and you’re looking for a lifetime of humiliation!
0:15 - 0:35 and 0:44 All five of them really look amused by the situation they are in during that scene part acting. Particularly the mum and the two older kids by how they are smiling or laughing.
One of my favorite scenes from the movie. Just think, if he'd liked Rice's choice, the audience might have seen a puppy dance and *RAP* to a M.C. Hammer song.
Sarah Rose Karr was such a an angel. She disappeared from the public after 1995 and has stayed out of the public light since. To this day, there supposedly is not a single confirmed photo of her on the Internet beyond 95.
I remember looking Charles Grodin up on wikipedia in the late 2000's and being surprised that he was in his 70's. The reason why it surprised me was that he was still young during the 90's and the movie was only 15-16 years old when I looked him up.
As a classical nerd i feel like i have to get this out of my chest. The 5th symphony (aka the dun dun dun duuun song) made by Beethoven is not E E E C its more like G G G E FLAT. The song is in C minor not A minor. But still this is an amazing I just felt like I had to say that idk.
We were debating what to call our new puppy. My sister got him in place of a Martin brand guitar, and he later became my dog. When she tried the name "Marty" he reacted like Beethoven did. The name stuck:)
Remember when Emily wasn't a police man, but she was a princess, and she didn't take her toy back to the carpet? BTW, the character's name in Kindergarten Cop was "Emma" ... which is close to "Emily"... coincidence?
Freaking THANK YOU!!!! My brain refused to cooperate with me! I've spend 6 hours trying to remember which one it was! 😅 Truly, thank you from the bottom of my all music loving heart. ❤
As a kid I had no idea the dad was so old in real life. I thought he was around 40 but he was over 55 when this movie aired. I'm like the exact same age as Emily in real life but the dad was the same age as my grandfather in real life.
I was wondering the same thing about Hank Williams Sr because my puppy was named Hank after him. I didn't pick that name for him the volunteers at the shelter did.
I love how the dad Said his name like he just met his mortal enemy also i love the dog barking to the music so cute
@Steve Kovaleski Uh, no. She didn't pick his name. She said it herself. "He'll tell us what he wants to be called." I have to agree with Hello about how the dad said Beethoven.
I never understood why they named him Beethoven but after seeing this movie again as an adult after all these years I realised why
Twenty-some years later, the "Uncle Richard" joke no longer flies over my head.

I don't get it? :-)
Amanda Eklund she wanted to call the dog penis or wiener. So that’s what he calls Uncle Richard.
The father calls uncle Richard by the shortened version of his name..... she wanted to call the dog D*ck
LMFAO I HAVENT WATCHED THIS IN 10 YEARS I FINALLY GET IT
Been a cat owner all my life, but if I have a dog, it'll be called Beethoven. Classic childhood film this. Loved it as a kid and still do now at the age of 28.

And now he’s gone... 😞
Wonder what he wrote on there.
@@puterboy2 Something like macho or something very similar.
What did he write on the note, when he said you asked for my input??
@@Anomalous602 Probably worse than what he calls Uncle Richard!
Love how Beethoven reacts when Emily starts playing Beethoven on the piano
It was Beethoven's 5th Symphony she was playing.
You have to wonder how they manage to train that puppy to bark like that or if it was really the puppy not just put. Because the dog really does sound like he's barking the song.
"That's what you call Uncle Richard..." When you finally get that joke, because you, in fact, have an Uncle Richard
Wolfmyth100 or you grow up to be uncle Richard.
I got it. I have an uncle Richard
Funny thing Uncle Richard is the father in the third movie.
What do they call uncle Rickard?
@UCCYHW_6sSdzUBFLI2fUvoTQ Aha okej
I love how they made emily play one of Beethoven's piano songs
It is actually a symphony, it was not written for the piano.
R.I.P Charles Grodin
@RocketLauncherShotgunGuy It was actually part of one of his full symphonies. To be specific, Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

Charles Gordon always reminded me of my dad in his films: Just the stressed out father with three terrors for children.
Bonnie Hunt was adorable in this movie ...To this day, this is where I know her from 😊

Of course, and every time you see her she’s obviously so dreamy.

Jesse Cruz that’s because she is
R.I.P. Charles Grodin, this is the film that I know him the most.
This and Midnight Run (1988)
I thought he was the trinity killer in Dexter at first but that was a different actor.

beethoven is one of my fav movies

Ted was gonna name Beethoven The Ultimate Warrior!? Dude! Haha!!!!
And Ryce wanted to name him M.C HAMMER
At least Emily had the right idea when she said that the puppy didn't want to be called "MC Hammer" or "Ultimate Warrior!"
I thought it was cool that their new puppy got his input on what he would like to be called! Beethoven it is!

1:21 Thus a legend was born
Beethoven tududu haha 😂 this film so epic
“Naming a dog is tricky, unless it’s Beethoven.”
Why does the dad say "Beethoven" like he just saw his arch-nemesis?
Well, Beethoven was deaf, so he didn't realize how loud he really is. So maybe Beethoven=very loud.
What Emily was playing on the piano was Beethoven's 5th.

I think we can all agree, the initial plan of pulling a name out of a hat was a poor one, because kids in general aren't good at naming things.
Beethoven already chose his human…
Emily 🥰
