Here is a list of Caran d ache rich pastel pencils colours I usually use: numbers...
Primary colours...
Reds... 788-060, 080
Yellows... 788- 240, 530, 035
Blue... 788- 145
Orange 788-052
Purple 788-099
Green 788-719
Carbothello pencils are... green 1400/585, red... 305, orange, 221, lemon yellow 205, yellow ochre 685 and white 100. I don't use this brand's blues as some of the lightfastness is poor. so I use Conti a Paris ones for them,... No10, No 06, No 22 and No46. Also the purple red for the deep shadows ... No19
If you can afford it I would recommend buying the sets as the extra colours would be very useful for clothes and backgrounds and can work out cheaper per pencil... affiliate links below.

I have just started using pastels and I discovered your video and I am amazed how you achieve such realism using just a few colors. I have only done a few animal portraits. I have done a number of charcoal and graphite pencil portraits but I am considering starting using pastels for people portraits as well. I am inspired by your videos and hope you continue posting new videos .
Hi Dogyal, pastels are a great way to understand colour... they are fun to use. Thrilled you are inspired by my videos... more to follow. 🙏

Legend! thank you! 😀🙏
I love your videos watching you made me better thank you. I have a question to ask. When you finish with u ok your work what do you use to steal it? Is it ok to use fixable spray?
Thanks for the love! I don't fix my work as it dulls the subtleties. What I do is wrap the work in glassine paper for storage... or I frame the work under mount and glass. Thanks for watching 😊🙏
... was soll man sagen, es ist perfekt und ich sehe gerne vorbei! Danke!
Du bist sehr nett, Carmen... vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen. Alles Gute. 🙏
Dave love your work
I have subscribed
I normally work with Coloured pencils Polychromo’s etc with Animal portraits
I want to learn human portraits and need to buy pastel pencils and have the opportunity to buy 60 Fabre Castel pit pastels
I did see you use different pencils .Dave what’s your thoughts on the Pit pastels
Kind regards and thank you 🙏
Hi Jenny, Pitt pastels are great if you like to work tightly... put it this way I have the 60 set of Faber Castel pencils and only use the white as I prefer the CarbOthello as they are chalkier and can be applied loosely or detailed. It is all a matter of personal preference. I have created the hedgehog drawing just using Pitt pastels and they worked well... they are great for animal work... alot of browns and earth tones. I feel that I have just got used to working the way I do. Here is the link to the hedgehog.

Dave what paper is ideal for pastel pencil and pastels
Hi... any paper that has a tooth to hold the pastel pigment would work. I prefer a sanded surface... Pastelmat is magic to work on. 🙏

Complimenti 👏 come conserva i disegni? Usa un fissativo per proteggere i colori? Grazie
Grazie, avvolgo con carta glassine se conservo il mio lavoro, o cornice con una montatura sotto vetro. 🙏
