Van life didn't become glorified homelessness until gentrification. Once well-off people started building out hundred thousand dollar vans, and once 'influencers' started making millions taking photos in picturesque places with their vans in the background, people started forgetting that living in a vehicle has been a lifesaving alternative to homelessness. Not a glorified version of it. Van life is very hard, yes, but it is very different from homelessness. It's hard to see that these days because of those who have turned van life into a perverted way to show off wealth. Stories of how living in a vehicle saved people's lives have faded. Keep your head up, sir! Your journey is an important one and I can only pray God won't make it too long before all of your prayers are answered in the most wonderful of ways! Stay safe and keep your face towards the sun! May 2024 be the best year so far for you, and may 2024 pale in comparison to the wonderful, amazing years you have ahead of you! Don't give up.🙏🤗

Bob Wells talks a lot about how poor people can live in their car more comfortably because they are being priced out of homes. He addresses the subject quite a bit. Here in America elderly women especially. He actually has a charity that helps people build out their vehicles So people can live in them.

I think this depends highly on what kind of van/bus/ambulance conversion we are talking about and if it’s a choice or not. And if it isn’t a choice but a necessity, it’s better than a lot of other options for homelessness. But different people are in different situations. There are people in $120k vans and people in $1k vans and everything in between. This is not a new thing, it’s just a lot more comfortable than it was 30 years ago and a lot more mainstream. It’s kind of a crazy juxtaposition. And we never know when it might happen to any one of us.

Love Ur energy mate. I've lived in my van for 4 years. Life has never been better. It's same size as urs but I've got porta potty and it's deffo a must. Ur right in thinking a change is good and if you adapt well it's a life saver. I've totally changed my outlook in life and I'm so much happier and content. I work part time in a bar and have a permanent spot I park on a farmers field, then I just go off on weekends exploring. It's so much better to not pay rent bills and taxes. I bought a van in March 2021 because as a single woman, there is no way I will ever be able to afford to own a home where I currently live in Yukon Canada. Once the van is paid off in two more years, I can focus on saving so that maybe by the time I hit 65-70 (I’m 45) I can maybe buy a tiny piece of land somewhere.
But at the very least, as long as I have my van, I will have a safe place to sleep. I can’t afford rental prices in my town. It’s ridiculous.

Same, I'm buying a beat up old enclosed untility trailer because I simply can not afford rent or a house. I'm only 21 and being aware I can't afford/ achieve the basic things my parents and grandparents did Is absolutely draining. It's difficult for me to find work where I'm at. Even though I grew up poor, I'm even more poor that I was growing up. Even with work.
And when I tell the people I love about my life and plan, most of them look down on me even though they have been through/going through similar situations.
I wish everyone who has to live in their vehicle, a camper, a trailer, a tent. The best of luck. And not to allow people to look down on you for a situation that you can't prevent.

People confuse living in a van with permanent vacation. You don’t have to quit your job or become a digital nomad or content creator that’s the real trap, people buy van and expect real life to disappear or go viral and experience picturesque scenery everyday. There are people who work remotely or even in person. I’m subscribed to a guy who does floorings all across America and he’s doing fine, a woman in HR and it’s in person. I disagree about van life being glorified homelessness, it’s just what you decide to make it. I wish you the best in your job search

Well said….. living in a car, van, camper or RV isn’t homelessness. Many are choosing it over the subscription we’ve been sold.
Sadly, many have capitalized off of a lifestyle that has been around for ages and tarnished it for clicks.
Not EVERYONE living the van/car life need to be poor or down on their luck. For some including myself it’s a sense of freedom. A freedom to choose. I work a great job as a claims investigator and chose a life of simplicity. How you see your situation is how you’ll eventually feel about the situation. I lovvvve living in my car. I’ve become more present since the transition. I’m connecting to myself and the simple things life offer again. When ppl stop promoting an everyday vacation and keep it real simple you’ll find normalcy and peace in living the van/carlife.🙏❤️

Exactly, it isn't glorified homelessness. A lot of people choose to have there home on wheels to be able to travel and go where they want to go, and yes it's ridiculously expensive where people can't afford the house/apartments/car's anymore. The same here in the USA, I'm looking for a van or RV because I don't want to be given away $40,000 a year for rent, can save that money.

If you don't have a job and feel low self confidence, then it is hard to get a job. The hack is to focus on a very easy to get job in the beginning: Delivering newspapers, cleaning an office or even better driving a taxi. Then you can upgrade to a better job, when you feel great about yourself.

Society constantly tells you “what you need” in order to function in society, with even more lavish homes and even more lavish life styles, which equates to indentured servitude. Know that I am praying for your situation, and that God is faithful to provide.
As far as the term homelessness, when I was living in my van, my brother called me “Almost Homeless”. Hang in there things are going to change for good soon. Not just trusting in your power to change your mind but in the truth that God’s creative plan for you and your life. It’s a good life when you lean into Him. Ask for his direction, He promised he would direct you and turn things to good if you trust him.

Some people, myself included, are depressed by "housedness;" it's all in the attitude.
If you have a means to stay clean, stay well, sleep, and eat decent food, you're not disadvantaged unless your mind tells you you are.
I adore being able to move around and change my scenery. And there are jobs you can do while travelling. I watch a number of people who have interesting vanlife channels that make money, basically by living in a van and making videos about it.
Bathroom issue: go into McD's every morning, visit their plumbing, buy a cup of coffee: problem solved.

I think it all depends on why people decide to live in a van. Some people absolutely love it and wouldn't want to live any other way, at least for the time being. My husband and I live in a 30 ft shuttle bus on an acre of land that we own so we definitely don't feel homeless. Of course a bus is different than a van because it's much bigger and when we're in it, it feels like like a little house, but we've been able to afford things like a really good solar system that makes it much more comfortable. We did buy a shuttle bus out of necessity because we couldn't afford to buy a house and we have 4 dogs so we couldn't rent an apartment. We're in our late 40s and we have started the process to build a house on our property, but I'm very happy in our bus. If we didn't have this property I think it wouldn't feel as comfortable or secure maybe. I wish van life was a thing when I was in my 20s and I totally would've done van life to save money to invest in something like property. I hope you're able to find a good job. Maybe you should do some modeling. You're a good looking guy and I bet you would get a lot of gigs. You could also see if you can find someone that has a big piece of property that might let you park there so you feel like you have a little more stability. I know theres and app where van lifers can find people that will let you park on their property for free. Maybe you could even do a barter deal where you do work on their property a few hours a week and they let you park there. One thing my husband did when he was having a hard time finding a job is put an ad on Craigslist and Next door offering to help people move or just do odd jobs for people that don't have a healthy man in the house to do things like mount a tv or clean their garagem . Also, see what type of online work you can do. A great channel that has great advice on living in a vehicle is , "Cheap RV Living". You're still so young and healthy and handsome. The world is at your feet. Use whatever assets and skills you have to make money and think outside of the box.

We lived in a van here in the UK 20 years ago and had the same problems as your having. I was so depressed. We had savings we were eating through and the winter was terrible, even in the van because of the cold and damp. It’s super expensive here in the UK too.
Van life is fantastic is you are earning money to fund it. But terrible if you can’t do that. Good luck. I hope you can find something.

I agree with the others, youre not homeless, you have a home that can go anywhere. I am in the states and i know a lot of nomads here utilize seaonal jobs that are short but you make a lot of money in a short time. Do you have anything like that there? Mostly farm type deals here
Like there are several sugar beet harvest that last 2 weeks and you make a couple of grand at least. Aussie is cool so i am envious. You can do this and you will get a job and once you do youll save a ton and feel better all around. Happy trails!

Any dwelling becomes a home if you want to be there, I built a truck out about 4 years ago and it worked so well I won't live in a regular house again. If I wasn't able to borrow the money to build something with all the comforts I would just buy what ever I could afford with some camping equipment and move in, from that moment all my money is going into myself and the vehicle. Slowly save, do it up as you can and eventually buy something bigger like a truck which is as much space as I will ever need for life if thats what I want. Free time is mainly what I want nowadays and van life can provide that in abundance.
