We can hear evidence as to why the lower register of the modern Clarinet is referred to as the "Chalemeau" register. It sounds here as if the upper reach of the tonal range (or at least the highest note in this performance) is a concert Bb 5. I wonder if notes beyond that Bb can be achieved on the Chalemeau..... or does an altogether different instrument, pitched higher, need to be employed? Thank you for a wonderful performance!
@anacrusa86 Many makers such as Guntram Wolf, Rudolf Tutz, Agnes Gueroult, Peter van der Poel who will produce a beautiful chalumeau for you. Then there are factory set up instruments by Moeck...
its a copy from Denner (Nürnberg),made by Wolf (Kronach/Germany) this instrument is an early clarinet, fingering very similar to recorder, embouchure is like tenorsaxophone (more relaxed than modern clarinet). Look for info at Wikipedia!
sehr schön, wollte schon immer mit der Klarinette Barockmusik machen, auf den Vorgänger das Chalumeau bin ich nicht gekommen. Jetzt weiss ich, was die nächste Anschaffung ist :o)
Excelent performance! bravo!!, excuseme I want to buy a tenor and bass chalumeaux, but I dont know where to buy the reeds, could you please tell me where can i find reeds for tenor and bass chalumeax, thanks, greatings.
@@francissadleir9805 yup! but it has always struck me how it can sound an octave lower basically than what a recorder with the same size as it would sound
ja, teils von boismortier, aus den solowerken für traversflöte. allemande ist von mir "nachkomponiert", daher steht ja oben "...solo from Boismortier/Fuss..."
Wie geht's! I am a little late to this party. I was listening to the radio show Harmonia, and they were playing Chalumeau music. I googled it, and this wonderful piece came up. Danke sehr for sharing your talents Herr Fuss. Also, where did you perform this music? The beautiful background looks as if it is some sort of ancient chapel.
Even if İ play a recorder İ don't understand till the end the difference between: 1)saxonett, 2)chalumeau and 3)clarineau (because they are new to me). Could someone explain this difference to me? 🙏🙏
To explain the difference it is really easier to use the clarinet as the final form for all of them. All four of them are cylindrical bore single reed instruments. The chalumeau is the medieval form, which essentially is a recorder with a clarinet mouth piece. The saxonett is really just a large bore chalumeau. The clarineau is a chalumeau with 2 keys that allow to play 3 missing notes in the throat to complete the fundamental lower range. Add two more keys on the bottom to play the low A and B and a bell to the the clarineau and you get a baroque clarinet. Ever further make the tube for all of them conical and you get a saxophone.
I think these instruments don't overblow so wel (if at all)l like actual Clarinet's (invented by Denners or the circle), Calumeaux is earlier folk instrument , refined later by Denners (like this model) and some others.
untill the head the Barock Clarinetto; the clarinetto looks like the High Barock recorder. Only the head is different and that makes the clarinetto. By the way very wonderful played. Awesome.
Beautiful. A more mellow and haunting sound than the clarinet.
Beautifully played and Boismortier's music is beautiful too.
Lovely, mysterious sound!
That's beautiful.
I'd like a tenor chalumeau.
Original, excelente instrumentista.
I love Boismortier's music ... wonderful.
That is amazing. :)
Fantastische Leistung. Schönes Instrument.

How great to hear someone getting into this seriously. Wonderful video. As for the negative feedback: squares all!
Wonderful ! Thanks for posting.

woah! incredible!
love that sound
It almost looks like a recorder but with a key joint and reed piece.
Excellent!
Awesome!
where can one get a chalumeau like that? it looks very much like a recorder
that is essentially what a chalumeau is. a recorder with a single reed and mouthpiece.
@@francissadleir9805 yup! but it has always struck me how it can sound an octave lower basically than what a recorder with the same size as it would sound
@@gatozarin the reason I think is because it is closed at one end with the reed. If you blow into a clarinet without a reed, it is an octave higher
Also a wider bore
This sounds so much like the clarinet
This instrument was actually the ancestor of the Clarinet.
i am a clarinetist, and i would like buy this instrument, because is incredible.
Someone know where we can buy this kind of instruments?¿?¿
beautiful. which piece are you playing exactely?
description
Thank you for beautiful music! Tell me, please, who has made this chalumeau?
so cool...its like an ancient clarinet (well it sort of is...lmao) still so amazingly awesome O.O
Qué fantástico soplar con fuerza y que el sonido n o se quiebre como en la flauta dulce contralto! El chalumeau es el antecesor del clarinete verdad?
Greetings from Belarus! Execution very was pleasant! For a long time wanted to tell: share please, notes)

Lovely performance. Do you know where we can find the sheet music? IMSLP does not seem to have it unless I am mistaken.
Mike Shirk did you find this score ? I would like to have too

Errata: well - Chalumeau singular Chalumeaux plural - Denner
This instument has an odd nostalgia to it ala the developement of reeds in music in the 17th century. -so hauntingly hollow and black
Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this?
Can you please tell me who is the maker of your tenor chalumeau-I would love to order one from the maker. Thanks
