- Mildenhall is said to be one of the poshest, quaint villages in Wiltshire.
Mildenhall (Minal) is a village and civil parish in the Kennet Valley in Wiltshire, England, immediately east of the market town of Marlborough.
The earliest record comes from Saxon times. The village of Mildenhall although spelt this way had been pronounced Minal by the local residents for centuries. The Domesday Survey of 1086 gave the name Mildenhalle but in 1282 the Charter Rolls called it Mildehale. About 1760, it can be seen that a new form, that of Minal, was being used. There is another village in Britian called Mildenhall, based in East Anglia.
The Church here dates back to 804AD.
The Horseshoe pub has a long history as a family-run village pub and alehouse.

Oh WOW what a fantastic walk! I always wish I could just wish it and I'd be right there in these gorgeous places! I love the red telephone booths and sooooo glad they didn't remove them when the public pay phones were taken out. Is that a lending library or just people exchanges books? I will be rewatching this a few times (as I do with all your video walks). Many thanks Kevin!💞 I forgot to mention that amazing church! The year 804 truly truly amazing! My dream is to walk these places one day

A lot of them this one included, have been repurposed as lending libraries, so people can swap books and have access to more reading material. I've lived in Tennessee (in the US) my entire life and I love it because it's home, but I've got to say, Kevin---- the beauty you share amazes me. It looks like the England in my imagination. I was surprised to see the cute little library in the phone booth--- fun! I especially love churches and cemeteries and appreciate you showing them. I was fascinated by the grave markers at the beginning of this video which look as if they've been placed to line the walkway. Do you think they were placed there originally or were they moved there at a later time? Thanks for another wonderful episode! 😊
Moved there at a later time. It's very common to see paths in church grounds made of old gravestones in Britain. Gravestones older than about 250 years old are likely to be used (highly unlikely any descendants visit graves) and old plots are sometimes reused.

Kevin, I was wondering when you'd get to the area south of Swindon and here you are! I knew from your other videos that you live in the same sort of area as me and I shall look forward to you coming to my village at some point! My Grandmother is buried in Minal churchyard and my Great-Aunt used to play the organ in that church.
P.S. Calling it Mildenhall is just wrong though so I'm glad you called added the Minal bit! 😂😂

Couple extra bits of hidden history for you, behind the fencing at 22:11 is a shabby looking block building, but inside this is a railway carriage! Abandoned in the early 80's, we used to play in there as kids, out the back at one time in a collapsed shed, even the carriage buffers were still there, and the central entrance door of the property was the original carriage door. Secondly, the cottage on the left at 23:34 was originally just a small shed/store, on the other side of the road in that yard was the original mill cottage, built on top of the river, this burned down, if memory serves me right. again, in the 80's.
