Wait. How did you find out about this? Did someone mentioned it to you? Who was it and what exactly did they say? I need you to think back really hard and tell me exactly what they said.
So i've been watching tifo on and off for a bit and decided to listen in to their podcast just now - to be immediately greeted with a casual 'F*** off'. Needless to say i'm hooked and will be tuning in more often.
missed you guys from the World Cup! I'd (and hopefully others too) would love an in depth video on Chelsea, all the systemic problems happening on and off the pitch, and how to fix them, if even at all possible.
You can tell Joe is loving that this podcast isn't live, and Steve Hankey is back. His tyranny over the audience and his producer returns. For better or worse.
Chelsea fan here! I think what JJ said about what we expect from a manager is broadly true. That said, I've been on board with getting a "process coach" and giving them time for a while now - if it was someone like Poch in charge and we were in this form, I would be more accepting. I can't put my finger on it, but Potter gives off a "deer in the headlights" vibe and can't lean on the managerial pedigree of any managers we've had since 2003... with the exception of Avram Grant.
@@connorj6462 fair enough - the man can build a squad though! I don't think he's a PSG manager, but a longer term project would suit his management style in my opinion
I think it's two things. One Tuchel being a fan favourite, so any manager replacing him would find themselves on thin ground with the fans, especially in the way the ownership sacked Tuchel. And two, Potter still speaks like he is a manager of a small team. For example in today's press conference, when asked if the confidence is low, he says it's not as we had a good performance against city....We lost that game 1-0. Both the fans and the players are not happy about that, a top 4 team shouldn't be happy with a loss, even if we played well.
As a Stoke fan I find it absolutely hilarious that Nathan Jones of all people is pitching himself as a flexible manager. Sticking to a sinking ship when everyone else had already jumped into the life rafts was exactly what cost him his job at Stoke
When the boys were predicting their dark horses for this season back in August Seb said 'Southampton will break into the top half, they've improved in every position.' Oh Seb, look what you've done!
legends - the last song reaching new heights in the awesomeness that is this podcast. LEGENDS. Good to have you all back, my days were darker when you were away
Love the podcast, cool to see a new look for the new year. One minor critique, Jon's framing is a bit weird, feels like someone is going to get him from behind
I think the thing that frustrates Arsenal fans is that the rhetoric shared about City (and others) of “the better team can dominate and lose” was something Arsenal were shelled for in the past. But these were times before underlying numbers and xG, so there was never a counter argument when you’d turn up to Stoke, win 75% possession and lose 2-0.
The Chelsea bit was frustrating to listen too. The issue a lot of fans have with Potter is very simple - he's not Tuchel! We understand he's got a hard job on made even harder by all these injuries, but it's difficult dealing with the fact we threw away a sure thing (which Tuchel was) for a potentially great long term manager. Tuchel was committed & the overwhelming majority of the fans were committed to him, so expecting an instant upturn in either results or performances to justify that change is reasonable - not a sign of an impatient mentality which has always been a bit of a myth regarding Chelsea fans anyway. We're the fanbase that unanimously supported Mourinho when he had us in 16th & was clearly losing the plot, we're not as spoilt as many opposition fans like to believe we are.
The one frustrating thing about when they talk about Chelsea is that I feel they have no input from any Chelsea fans. Like the point about Chelsea fans wanting instant changes from the manager. To a degree that is correct and especially from certain fans. But most fans wanted more stability and a long term plan, the issue was that most fans wanted this with Tuchel. So the next manager was always going to come under intense scrutiny as they are now having to deal with the fact that he's seen as they guy who as replaced one of the most popular managers Chelsea ever had.
A bit random maybe, but I was wondering if you guys could make a video on the crazy amount of ACL injuries and other knee injuries that have been reported among the top women’s leagues across Europe.
Generally females are more likely to have knee injuries (particularly non-contact ones) due to the difference in angle between quadriceps and patella that is apparent after puberty when hips widen. I can’t speak for quality of fields in Europe but women’s professional football is often on much lower quality fields in Aus compared with the A League which could compound this anatomical difference.
That could absolutely be an additional factor. Things that could also make a difference are inexperience in youth strength training being implemented for females. I also believe acl tears are more likely at certain times during a menstrual cycle which would indicate poor squad rotation/lack of understanding from coaches, trainers or managers.
Ross Dog Mackenzie was correct in pronouncing the T at the end of Dalot. He's Portuguese; not French. The T isn't silent. It boils my piss how commentators have unanimously decided it's "Dalo". I suppose we're just supposed to forget that Mourinho and Ronaldo in interviews clearly always call him DaloT. But what would they know eh, they're only Portuguese and share the same agent.
Watching this after listening to it on Spotify, and I genuinely thought Joe had a spring soundboard at 1:19, I don't know whether my imagination or the reality is more chaotic
I just couldnt imagine unironically saying that man city is a better side than arsenal and not even thinking there's an argument about it. Has this guy checked the league table this season?
I got treated to a JJ Bull number - "The Goblin King" (not sure if that's the actual title) on the podcast, but seems to be absent from the UA-cam version. Alas! It's a banger!
Can you name the man with four wheel drive, Smells like a steak and seats thirty five? Casemiro! Casemiro! Well, he goes real slow with the hammer down, It's the country-fried man endorsed by a clown, Casemiro! Casemiro!
I think Potter would probably get it together in the end. But I don't think Chelsea are paitent enough. When he came to Brighton he had a whole pre season to get his ideas across but I think if the Chelsea fans turn the new owners won't be used to it and they'll cave. I can see them firing him just to appease their fans. Maybe Swansea will want him back.
He did a good job at Brighton but let's be honest with Brighton's players it's not such an achievement to finish 9th. Unless he takes credit for the players Brighton got which we don't know if it's the case. Maybe he becomes elite but so far things look poor.
The bane of Man United in the past has been precisely their inability to beat teams they "should" beat. The fact that they are doing so - and with relative ease - is hugely encouraging.
This Southampton correspondent is a great example of how The Athletic are shaping the narrative rather then reporting the facts. His coverage of Jones is littered with bias.
49:06 hits the nail on the coffin. Ive noticed this with EVERY SINGLE chelsea fan, they are all sooo spoilt. So many are turning on Potter already. Like bruh give the guy a chance atleast till the end of the season.
Lazy take. Please show me a big club that kept his coach after a win in 9 matches with no sign of improvement. Again, Arteta is the exception not the rule. No big club has so much patience unless coach has achieved things already like Klopp case

Antony terrorized the Croatian leftback 1-on-1 in the World Cup. His problem is that he takes too long to find a pass or a shot and so the defense has time to close those options. That's why he plays as a second option to Raphinha who's much smarter at finding passes or shooting opportunities
