Thank you - this homily came at the right time ❤ I felt the beginning of jealousy and envy starting in my heart, and this homily teaches me how to handle those feelings
Your homily made me cry so much. God used you to talk to me. I did not go to mass yesterday. My excuse was I kept praying rosary daily. Why keep getting confessed and being a good person? I have been trying to have a baby for 13 years. I have lost 3 children, and recently, 2 of my sisters got pregnant, not trying. Im not jealous of them. Im so incredibly happy because I will have 2 more nephews to love, and i absolutely adore all of my nieces and nephews, but I didn't understand why I cant have children of my own. Anyways I saw the notification and just pressed play out of habit. Well, God talked straight to me without confusion, straight answers, and I'm so grateful he calls me back to him. Thank you, Father Mike.
God please bless this woman with the love you have for her and with being an instrument of love in the lives of others. Please bless her abundantly. Thank you for her willingness to put aside her sorrow and rejoyce with her sisters and love her nieces and nephews with your love, as her own. Thank you for her example.
I love your homilies. I go to mass each week but I always also tune in to your beautiful way you communicate how scripture applies to our life everyday. Envy. I will work on that. Thank you.
*These words are not mine.* These are the words the Ruach HaKodesh (YAHUAH's Set-Apart Spirit) uttered through me when I prayed to YAHUAH; asking him what *he wants* me to say, knowing the truth: "Know that YAHUAH is the name of the Most High and YAHUsha is the name of The Son. Jesus through Mary through Father Mike Schmitz! Thanks be to God for our priests! Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, pray for us that we continue to ask for the virtue of a generous heart and to brainwash our minds with the thoughts of Jesus and transplant our hearts with the Immaculate of Heart of Mary which is completely united with the Sacred Heart of Jesus! Amen! Also dear martyr Saints, please pray for me who was an especially tolerant Catholic who tolerated evil and I didn't think anything was evil in the four things that cry out to heaven so many years ago because I was raised in government funded schools that were already communist! God thank you for rescuing me from my sins! Who else thinks that it's not all good with the Church in the world? Dear Martyr Saints Cosmas and Damian pray for us especially for those who don't think and were never taught that Jesus is God Who preferred to die than tell the lie of the devil that God did not and would not love us because of our sins! Rejoice Catholics for the Sacrament of Penance!
All my life, I wished that I could have a beautiful singing voice. The reality is that I sound like Fran Dresher in labor. It’s taken me a long time to realize that although I wasn’t blessed with that gift, God has blessed me with so many other talents and blessings that it would be foolish and sinful for me to focus on the things that I cannot do instead of what I can do for God…but I still hope that I will be able to sing in heaven one day.
Don't stop singing! It's good for you! You don't have a solo voice, but it might go well in a chorus. You can learn, and it's a hobby you can have your whole life. Regardless, keep singing, even if it's just when you're alone. 😅
Thank you Father Mike, for all your homilies. We truly have been blessed by the Lord to send a shepherd that can share the scripture the way you do. Even after attending mass, I would still tune in to your weekly homilies because you have been gifted with spreading the word of God, in the most captivating ways. God Bless You Always! 🙏🙏
God knew exactly what he was doing when this came out on my notifications. I just realize how envious I am. I’m sad but my eyes are open and now I can work on it.
“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another; but when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit,” Titus 3:3-5
Thank you and God bless you Father Mike, a beautiful homily. I love the way you, explained the differences between envy, and jealousy. Very enlightening. God bless you 🙏☦️🛐
It's always a fun moment when Fr. Mike mentions something from our childhood that I recall (we are the same age) as it gives me happy memories (most of the time).
Hi Father Mike, God bless you and your homilies, which always give me good food to ponder on and learn and nourish my soul to grow closer to Jesus. Another way of looking at the sin of envy is that just like other sin it does give us pleasure when we see others not receiving their blessings, but just like other sins this pleasure is paper thin and quickly fades and does not truly feed our desire to love and be loved which only the grace and love of our God can provide.
Our priest gave a similar sermon about envy and how gratitude was the only way to respond to that. Don't be jealous of a new car or built in pool a neighbor got, be grateful for what you have. Don't waste time on envy.
Thank you Father Mike, very beautiful/ enlightening message! Satan is always working hard to instill in our mind how pitiful, sad, unfair etc our life is to trigger jealousy, envy, all these ugly feelings/traits. Clinging to God & our Blessed Mother will always help us appreciate what we have & rejoice the wins of our friends:)
1:37 that's correct a sacrifice does not always guarantee us love but a strategic sacrifice of a rook or a queen can in some situations guarantee us CHECKMATE
After listening to this homily, I rewatched Amadeus with greater insight. I, too, first saw this movie when I was much younger and yawned through it. This time, I found it fascinating and grasped the struggle with envy and with God that Salieri experienced. Yes, excellent movie! Sometimes, just a few “too many notes.” 😃
Wow, you talked about your dad. I think thats the first time Ive heard you do that in a homily. Thank you Father Mike for the insightful homily. Very clarifying. Something to chew on.
While most may apply this in their lives to a neighbor or co-worker having a better car or some other silly thing like that, this hits hard on those who have become paralyzed or lost a limb through no fault of their own or those unable to have children. Accepting God's love in these instances may take a lifetime, if it even ever happens.
Coincidentally just returned from Mass with sopranos and string quartet, with selections from Mozart's Great Mass in C minor. The music was truly beautiful. Fr. Mike, this is a wonderful homily, providing lots to think about. Thank you.
You are such a gifted speaker! I love your homilies and listen to them every week. I agree with you about envy. It definitely destroys lives. Something else that destroys lives is gossip. Why is the gossiper believed so readily and the target of gossip so readily vilified? Why don't people care to check on the truth before they spread the gossip? It's a mystery to me. Can you speak on gossip sometime in one of your homilies or in an Ascension video?
Gossip doesn't have to be false to be gossip. Gossip is anything that unjustly hurts the reputation of another, or that would embarrass anyone by the telling. (A "just" hurting of reputation would be to warn potential victims, like the reporting of the location of sex offenders.)
In my experience gossip is often false or a greatly exaggerated semi truth. That is how the gossiper is more believable. By taking the truth and manipulating it to make them look good and the subject of gossip look bad.
A very good sermon about a long standing friend , whose is very proud and envious. I decided to judge him adversely and I rejected him. Now I am struggling to resurrect the friendship. I am aware that God loves him as well as me
Aaron Rodgers injury- I don’t know if the fans in Chicago were envious of him. I think they might’ve been envious of the fact that they weren’t the ones that made the tackle that killed his season after years and years and years of harassing the Bears he goes to the Jets. And in the first minute of the game, you’re right, he blows out his Achilles and he’s gone for the season. Yes Bears fans were very happy about it, but they truly wished it could’ve happened on their watch. And maybe that’s envy. Me a route for the Steelers have for years and years and years and years and years and years so I got nothing to worry about.
I'm an atheist, but was wondering if a catholic could help me out: If we're all 'doomed' by the sin of adam (through no fault of our own), why is the redemptive suffering of christ conditional? Basically, adam sins and we're all screwed by virtue of being born afterwards. Yet to be 'saved' by christ, we must actively believe and take steps towards god. Why not just forgive us unconditionally the same way we're damned?
That's a totally fair question, and I'll do my best to answer according to what I understand the answer to be. And please accept that I could be totally wrong. When Adam and Eve fail to heed God's directions to not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God asks them why they did not obey his command. Instead of asking for forgiveness, Adam forsakes Eve rather than defending her. It's more like he deflects blame instead of assuming the role of protector. Eve does something similar. Their failure to admit fault or assume responsibility for the other disappoints God, so he initiates a punishment but offers forgiveness and an opportunity to make better choices in the future. God does forgive, but he also expects you to behave according to his commands. Let's say a mom takes her kid to the grocery store and the kid asks for candy. The mom says no. The kid starts whining incessantly, and the mom still refuses. At this point, the kid can decide to accept mom's no or he can try to manipulate mom by throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of the store. If mom gives in out of frustration or embarrassment, the kid wins through bad behavior and will likely continue that bad behavior because he gets "rewarded" for it. The candy essentially reinforces the bad behavior. If mom ignores his behavior and continues her thing, the kid will likely get tired, give up, and likely change his behavior to get mom's positive attention again. It's the same idea with God. If you want God to reward you, then you follow his commands. God knows none of us are perfect. God knows he can't expect perfection, but he can expect us to obey his commands to the best of our ability and through our free will. He's given us free will to help us decide how closely we wish to follow his lead. We can either live more like Christ or not. We can also make horrific mistakes, seek forgiveness, reflect on what we've done, and do better moving forward. But that's each individual's choice. Another example, my dog expects treats because she's the cutest dog in the world. I'm a pushover who has given her treats simply for being the cutest dog in the world. She has not always behaved very well (I accept blame for that because I did not instruct her well at first), so I hired a trainer. We used treats to reward good behavior, and now she's much better behaved. She's not perfect by any stretch, but she's a lot better than she was. I always forgive her mistakes, but I also have expectations of her and she knows that. I hope that helps! Btw, I'm a former atheist. I'm curious what brought you here. Also, I appreciate your respectful tone and curiosity :)
@brendamyc3173 Tried that. Usually get some quote about christ's passion on the cross and how it demonstrated god's love for us all. Doesn't really answer the question though.
@annem2922 With the example of drinking, the analogy doesn't work. We wouldn't only be talking about your child, but every child that was ever born after you decided to drink loads of alcohol. See how that doesn't really make sense?
@@Regular_Pigeon I think this is where free will comes in. If you're given unconditional salvation, then there is no place in which you can choose your outcome. For example, if you're unconditionally granted salvation, then you can commit murder or rape to your heart's delight with no repercussions. Does that sound fair or just? You may suffer consequences in this world through jail, but why do you deserve eternal life for violating God's code without repentance? If you commit a heinous crime in this world, you can also truly repent and hope to achieve eternal life through redemption. We've all seen stories like this, right? God will always grant forgiveness when sought, but it's up to the individual to 1) seek it, and 2) improve behavior. That's where free will steps in.
I've always been envious of extremely beautiful women. Yes, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some women are attractive based on looks alone. I went as far as crying when my very beautiful best friend got a boyfriend. She considers me her best friend but I secretly wish I looked liked her and I feel small because she is often complimented everywhere - grocery store, fast food, bus stop. I didn't know some women always receive male attention. She's that rare breed of woman that men want to date after a hook up and she is the one who does the rejecting. She says she hates it. She doesn't seem to get attached. I always compliment her but damn do I feel bitter inside.
That's bullshit. The land owner was not generous with the people who busted their humps for 12 hours. He took advantage of them. As for your examples of God loving the way He will love us, we have to accept it. There are no other options other than damnation. It certainly doesn't jibe with human logic. You have to admit that.
We understand the terrible in terms of gods generosity. But as a real business owner in real life, I can say that he will not be able to find laborers early in the morning. He’ll all show up at five and good luck bringing that Harveston.
I've always thought this reading was a good one even as a secular fable. This happens at work all the time. People get upset that other people are making more than they are or that someone else does nothing all day and still gets paid. Bro if it literally doesn't affect you and in most (not all but most) cases it really doesn't what is your deal.
Thank you, Fr. Mike, for another inspirational homily.
Our relationship with God should not be transactional. We cannot earn God’s love. Powerful words. Thank you.
Thank you - this homily came at the right time ❤ I felt the beginning of jealousy and envy starting in my heart, and this homily teaches me how to handle those feelings
I have a few friends I can tell bad news to: only one I can fully share success with
Thank you Fr,.Mike for theGood teachings.
One of your best homilies ! I wish other priests would listen to them ❤
Thank you for your beautiful homilies. They are always a blessing to my soul. ❤️🎚❤️
I love your homilies. I go to mass each week but I always also tune in to your beautiful way you communicate how scripture applies to our life everyday. Envy. I will work on that. Thank you.
Same here!!
Same here! Thank you Fr. Mike!
I will take this close to heart. It is easy to forget that God’s logic is not the same as ours. Very impactful homily!

A fine distinction between envy and jealousy. Envy is behind so many sins, including consumerism.

A very good sermon about a long standing friend , whose is very proud and envious. I decided to judge him adversely and I rejected him. Now I am struggling to resurrect the friendship. I am aware that God loves him as well as me

So much to think about! How do we know when we are or aren’t receiving God’s love?
@@jesuslovesyoue yes but my question is how do we know we are receiving it the way father Mike said.
❤️
Hi father what Bible translation are you using on the app? Thanks!
Are u saying the envy won’t be blessed? I really need to know this. I have a problem with envy.
Wanting something similar to what someone has is fine but actually wanting what someone has is coveting. Plain and simple.
Sure. Is. Nuts. What. Sports. Players Get. Paid
Like. Aaron Rodgers. !!.
I'm an atheist, but was wondering if a catholic could help me out:
If we're all 'doomed' by the sin of adam (through no fault of our own), why is the redemptive suffering of christ conditional?
@annem2922 Why does a 'blanket unconditional salvation' take away our freedom, when original sin was only the fault of adam? It should go both ways.

Father, you’re homilies are very good, but you need to slow down a little and be calm. God bless.
Father mike will you marry me and my wife? If you get this please respond! If not it’s okay god bless! I figured it would take a miracle
