L'interpretazione di "Ah si ben mio" è tra le più belle che ho ascoltato!!!...i piani della signora Gencer sono spettacolari!!! Del Monaco nei recitativi e nelle invettive è tra i più grandi di sempre...ascoltando "Di quella pira" anche se è più bassa di tono le quartine sono scandite come meglio non si può,sembra una mitragliatrice da come sono perfette!!! Alcuni commenti che ho letto sono fatti sicuramente da persone che non si intendono ne di lirica ne di tecnica vocale! Di fronte ad una performance come questa bisogna dire solo la verità! La maggior parte dei commenti sono condivisi da gente che non capisce un Cazzo di musica ed ancora meno di lirica... Posso capire il gusto personale e su quello non disquisisco. Ma oggettivamente chi si permette di provare a screditare gente come Del Monaco è da impiccare. Persone che poi cantano nei cori della chiesa e si atteggiano. Gente che osanna Aronica o la Prizzi e butta fango su Kaufmann...
Some comments leave me speechless he wasn’t a good tenor he was the greatest and he destroyed so many up and coming tenors for trying to mimic him, his presence and acting was in itself fantastic a one off God bless MDM for leaving such great examples of vocal excellence

Che voce drammatica e stentorea. Un timbro unico e inconfondibile. Padrone assoluto della propria vocalità. Il range delle sue tonalità è più esteso di qualsiasi altro tenore. A volte pare anche un baritono che canta da tenore. Come la fa lui è semplicemente perfetta. Un portento. Una stabilità e fluidità incredibili. Nessun cedimento. Non una sbavatura. Che dire di più. Il più grande di tutti i tempi.
Invece di guardare se è mezzo tono sotto o no , guardate l'espressione del volto che secondo me è l'esempio lampante di come si interpreta l'opera! un saluto

What many fail to notice is that even here Del Monaco sings it with belcanto line. You can argue with me as much as you want, that says what is important in singing and that is line. And he does it. That what makes him one of the greats.I love when people discredit singers such as Del Monaco, Gigli, Bjorling,Corelli, Pavarotti, Bergonzi and others. @muchogustavo1 I agree, the 3spinto tenors you mention are incredible in the Pira,as a wish, I would have Corelli or Fillipeschi do the Pira & then have the Dramatic Del Monaco sing the rest of the opera.I have a similar wish for Aida as well. To have Corelli sing the Celeste Aida and Del Monaco sing the rest of the opera.I also think that Volpi was the greatest Manrico in history.However I do get great satisfaction from listening to all these great tenors.Enjoy
@tomzoricic When the opera is done in a studio atmosphere, their may be the ability for the artists to rest a little more&they are also not in costume.Even though Del Monaco sings a D-Flat in the tercetto with Gencer&BastianiniLIVE, which is amazing for such a large voice.The D-FLAT might be SET a little easier than the High C & THE REST OF THE TESSITURA in the Pira. which weighs heavier on a voice like MDM'S,Corelli would sometimes lower it or sing it in pitch when appearing LIVE

Si si, ma è normale, quasi tutti i tenori drammatici la cantano un semitono sotto. Dopotutto Verdi aveva scritto di quella pira con il finale sul SOL non sul DO, quindi l'abbassare è assolutamente legittimo a mio modo di vedere le cose

I agree that both Bonisolli and Filippeschi give marvelous interpretations of this aria, but that does not make Del Monaco's any lesser. I know some people tend to say MdM was just Otello, but in my opinion that's just the garbage of those who judge opera singers by listening to rumors rather than by actually listening; the same garbage that made Pavarotti look like the best tenor of all time...
