Great review. Someone just gave me one as a birthday present. I didn't expect much from it but the video quality is pretty good for a cheap camera. I actually shot a short film with it that is posted on my channel titled Getting Home.

I got this camera but in black when it came out, and I loved it. I was uploading youtube videos with my friend before then, but the process was way harder with his moms digital camera lol. The main thing we wanted was to make videos and watch them on our tv with friends. Prior to the flip with its included cable, we were burning our videos to dvds at walgreens to watch them. This thing was awesome. I just purchased a new in box white one like this from ebay, it was like 25 bucks and its nostalgic forsure.
@Sports564 Yes, it is. The Flip saves files in an MP4 format that any modern computer should play. The camera also comes with optional software that, on the Mac, requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

@computerworld There are problems with file conversion though to Windows Movie Maker. Whereas theoretically they are not compatible - in practice I have had few problems - but they have happened!

Believe it. It actually is really decent. With it being so small I was worried the video would be all choppy like it came off of a cell phone, but I was pleasantly surprised. I should hopefully be uploading my first video using my new flip tomorrow. We're supposed to be getting a bit of snow tonight, so I thought a before and after outdoor shot would be OK for my first vid.

@MrJGear16 The Diamond VC500 is an adapter that takes a video input source and converts it. It is not a camera and won't take the place of one, unfortunately.
I have a flip ultra 120 min cam. I LOVE IT! It's easy to use and takes better than expected video. I first bought the Kodak Zi6 when i found out wal-mart didn't have flips in. The kodak is cool, but its naturally zoomed in too much to be able to take self filmed vlogs without cutting off some of your head. Others have had the same problem. Other than that..the Zi6 is a cool cam with Hd capability. But for youtube vids. I LOVE MY FLIP!! VGA is perfect 4 YT. Wouldn't trade it 4 anything...
I just bought the black ultra to record roller coasters, will this be a good camera? Its my first video camera ever so im pritty excited. Whats the difference between Mino, Ultra, and HD?
Flip makes the best tapeless camcorders pre-HD era I've seen, I had one for 8 years and it worked great, only broke because I was 6 when I got it and would jam the USB in which dislodged it. Still recommended for anyone wanting a cheapo camcorder
Would I be able to save the videos I have made, edit it, upload it 2 youtube, and then delete it on the actual camera but have it kept on the computer?

This video is nearly four years old and Flip is no longer being manufactured. I would say that it is a very good camera offering top rate quality films. All of my films have been made using it. The problem with HD is that you need very fast internet access to upload - in my office it is around 200MB per hour and I certainly would not try at any lower speed. You also need a new computer with plenty of RAM if you are going to start manipulating heavy files.
@SnowboarderBoy15 yeah it can store as many as you want as long as it is under the time. which is never a problem because you can put the clips on your computer and then delete them off the flip
I'm happy I have the new , upgraded version. 60 minutes worth it in a video? No way Jose. Man , would money explode just for batteries like every 30 minutes in a day for me. :)
Flipshare has video editing, trimming, title, credits, snapshots from the videos. but i see other flip videos all edited differently. when you create a movie from clips put together they fade in and out when the scene changes. is there a setting to change that? and also more advanced music settings? i don't like how only one song can play and not the precise moment you want it to. anything I'm missing? or is it just a different program?
@peyton145417 If you go to the Cisco website and look up press releases you will see that the company announced around 12 April 2011 that it would be discontinuing the production of Flip cameras. Pure Digital Technologies was acquired by Cisco previously.

You must be doing something wrong. I was using this camera for 20 months and have around 500 films here filmed with it which were processed in WMM (you can see on my channel). There are also converters available on the net but I think that they are unnecessary. However if you have less than approx. 1.5GB RAM then you will not be able to use these files. I have upgraded my camera as I wanted something with shake reduction, however I still use the flip mounted in my vehicle.
I just got mine and already took vidios of my christmas tree. It looks pretty amazing and it installed pretty good. Very easy to use which is the reason I bought it.
I might be getting one of the flip cameras I'm really nervous about uploading it to my computer. I just want it to quickly it to upload to my computer will it be a problem? And the AA battery thing I have a digital camera that runs on AA batteries and ounce I turn it on 10 min later it's dead. Will the flip camera do that? Will it eat AA batteries like my digital camera? I'm nervous about camera

It comes with it's own type of editing software I have the HD flip and it is awesome. I took some video in a dark room with only one dimmed light and it worked great. I could see everyone in the room pretty clearly.
OMG OMG OMG this helped so much im going to get one for Christmas, yes there is a few draw backs but its 2011 now 4 years later and there is the ultra hd and the mino hd im not sure witch to get but i know im getting one thanks to this video it helped so much thanks!!!!
@Webkinzcheetah It is easy to get movies off the Flip and onto your camera -- just plug it in like you would any USB drive and copy the files. If you're using rechargeable batteries, they may have lost their ability to hold a charge.

It downloads as an mp4, which makes it difficult to do since windows movie maker associates with mp3, wmv, mpeg, etc. Like Trevor stated, you will need a converter. DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab5 works well as a decoder.
i have a question, can you pause and start in the video editing to create panned scenes? for example: Shane Dawson does this when he talks to the camera, you wont see him move to the left or right of it, he just instantly appears there by using pause editing on the computer. I want to know if you can do this on the flip videocamera
does this only hold 60 minutes? or can it record up to 60 mins at any one time, and then record another 60 mins, and another 60 mins etc etc? plzz im thinking of getting one. and also, where do i get one?

I have one from christmas, and all my skate videos were taken with that camera. The quality is very good and its at a very good price too!

I bought one 3 weeks ago, and it is just great. Good picture quality and good sound. I take it everywhere i go. I'm having a great time making movies.
@RotomRules64 Yes, the Flip camera is great for making UA-cam videos. We have videos here in our UA-cam channel that were filmed with the Flip.

@ItzMileyx3 You can use the inbuilt USB connector with your computer, or use the separate power supply to connect to an AC outlet for a faster charge.

@Timostarbucks Depending on the model of Flip, it could be AA batteries that last two hours, or a lithium-ion battery pack that lasts 1.5 hours.

i think you hit the play button again and it pauses/stops playback, but recording if you hit record then hit stop i think it makes a new file
when u watch videos back on the FLIP u cant pause them if thats what u mean?

i have the flip camera but it has the safety strap is that normal for the flip camera to have. all i know it that the Flip Ultra has no safety strap.

@alexcessnastuff Deleting the file off the Flip's inbuilt storage gives you back the time it occupied, so you can use it to shoot more video.
