    I have just installed AntiX 23.1 on my 10 year old MSI Windbox with 11 year old tech (4GB ram, Celeron 1037, 1TB ssd) and it runs AntiX very fast. Also x265 video plays perfectly well: no framedrops at all! Only UA-cam loads very slow, but videos play flawlessly at 1080p

    Great intro & tour & I've successfully installed. However, try as I might I can't find a way to connect to my home wifi! I've never had this problem before, successfully installing both Linux Mint & Debian 12 & thought this would be much easier. I was hoping your session would cover this, although you were obviously already connected!!

      Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it. I hardly ever use WiFi on my systems, I prefer Ethernet connection. I haven't used Anitx for a while. After reading your message, I installed it on a spare computer. It installed fast as usual. After installation, I was going to update the system and see if I could get the WiFi working. The system wouldn't update. Were you able to update the system? I'm disappointed, it seems the system is not properly maintained. I don't recommend using it. I think Mint or Debian is a better solution. I recently made a video showing how to setup WiFi in Arch, but you may not want to go that route. Cheers!

      @@linuxmench2118 Thanks again & after reading you reply I decided to take my small web book Acer downstairs & using an old ethernet cable, linked it to our BT hub. However, I naively thought it would be easy to connect, but after searching for ways to configure a connection I totally failed again! I used to run Mint Cinnamon & really liked that, but when they stopped doing upgrades for 32 bit machines, I was advised not to use it as there could be security issues. However, a Linux retailer here in the UK that continues to sell it & other distributions 'out of date', told me that it was safe to do so. If that was true & the DVDs they sell have all the updates on, I would buy one. Cheers...

      My computers are old, but they're all 64 bit. I think it's time to bury the 32 bit machine. Yes, Antix still supports 32 bit, they even mention on their website you may be unable to install and run some apps. Someone is selling DVD's with outdated 32 bit distributions? Am I understanding you correctly? Sounds a bit dodgy to me. If money is an issue, you can buy refurbished computers from Amazon and put your favorite Linux distribution on them. You might try MX Linux, I think they still support 32 bit, but I may be wrong. Cheers.

    The AntiX site states how there's 4 versions:
    Full, Base, Core and Net.
    Both Full & Base state there's a choice of 4 WM Window Mgrs. for each.
    I didn't see those options presented either within your video nor within my exploring of the website.
    If this is in your wheelhouse What are the differences in these Window Mgrs & when does one make more sense over another.
    Maybe another video?
    Thank you for your time & effort in this one....

      You're welcome! AntiX installs by default several different window managers; although, they are very similar. I have several videos on AntiX. In at least one of them, I installed the Awesome Window Manager. Once AntiX is installed, you can install any window manager that's available in the Debian Repo, in the gui or in the terminal.

    Tq for the v.informative Video.
    AntiX is certainly an excellent distro but it's V.V.V.'busy' in terms of apps and settings etc.
    and why there isn't a 'search' field on the 'Start' menu bewilders me.
    II downloaded an icon pack for it, but got lost in all the apps/settings options. Cant install them right now :(

      You're welcome. Click on the start menu and go to the top and click on App Select. It brings up a search menu. I did it several times in the video. It's not as good as the search menu in other desktop environments, but it works.

    I installed Antix 23 Full ver. on VM with Ram 2GB and hard disk 40GB.
    But conky shows Disk 1.49 GB
    So having problems.
    How do I increase it?

    • @linuxmench2118
      @linuxmench2118  2 місяці тому +1

      Conky shows you're using 1.49 GB of ram or is it showing your disk space? If it's showing 1.49 GB of ram, that's really high for Antix. Something is wrong. In Virt-Manager, Virtual Box, and VM Ware, you can increase your ram in the settings, but you have to shut your VM off. You can't do it if the VM is running. As far as I know, you can't increase your disk space. You can add another disk, but it's complicated and you have to know how to do it. Antix should be using approximately 9 GB of disk space and about 300 MB of ram.

      @@linuxmench2118 Thanks for reply.
      I followed your vid instructions. And after selecting Encrypt option in Antix, it worked.
      Thank you 😊.

      Hi, I don't know why your android devices are not showing in Antix. LMDE is a great distribution. Perhaps it has all the proper drivers installed by default so that your Android devices connect easily. Since Ram is an issue for you, try this solution: after installing LMDE, install the Awesome Window manager and log into it. Awesome uses half the Ram of the Cinnamon Desktop. With Awesome, your connected device won't show on the desktop, but it will show in Nemo your file manager. Try watching this video:

    This's the same installer MX Linux uses. It always seems to pause at 97%. My personal feeling about antiX is the absence of systemd. For some that's a plus.

    • @linuxmench2118

      Yes, MX and Antix are connected. The absence of systemd is negative for me too.

      It should work okay. You need to determined if your computer is 32 or 64 bit, download the correct iso, and make a live usb thumb drive. Your computer may not have usb ports. You might have to burn it to a cd. It will work with 32 bit, but some apps may not work.

    Why in package installer i don't have Virtualization ?

    • @linuxmench2118
      @linuxmench2118  7 місяців тому

      That's interesting, I have it. Open the software centre and go to the V section. The virtualization section is under the video section. I just went into my Antix system and it's still there.

      Nothing:

      - video
      - wallpapers
      - window managers.

      That is strange. I just did a new install and updated it. Virtualization is there. Did you install 32 or 64 bit? What init system did you install? I don't know why it's not there for you.

    • @Giugu33
      @Giugu33 7 місяців тому

      32 bit, but I don't know which Init.
