You know the story goes that he wasn't. Until his wife convinced him to go to a show and then the band played Rooster and Jerry Sr broke down in tears realising that his son understood him more than he thought
@@Groundeyes bro i believe his mom died before aic and he conviced his dad to come to a show where they opened for iggy and then he played the song for him
What’s so great about it is that he wasn’t supportive until he decided to go to a show and heard rooster for the first time he realized that his son understood him more than he understood his son. Story goes they’ve been close ever since. They built a ranch in their hometown and Jerry’s dad still lives there to this day.
Because Jerry wasn't raised in Oklahoma. He was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. His mom, siblings and himself left their dad when he was young to live his grandma in Tacoma. Even though he saw his dad growing up, his dad wasn't there a lot. Jerry didn't reconnect with his father only until he was an adult. The song Rooster actually rebuilt his relationship with his dad. Jerry said that at that point he stopped blaming his dad for what the war had done to him.
Lol its weird when jerry says ''Make some noise for Jerry Cantrell'' I know obviously thats his dads name but when you think of Jerry Cantrell you think of the guitar player not his dad LOL. It is so sweet that his dad came on stage love this video
My daddy avoided Nam’ by a couple months, but as a very young marine, he was on Oki’ and getting ready to deploy in country. Had he gone, I don’t think I would be here today. The awfulness of war cannot be described. I am thankful that my dad didn’t have to see it and so very proud of his service and my mom’s service in the USMC. Semper Fi Mom and Dad and thank you for your service Mr. Cantrell Sr.
hell ya! hoo -ya thanks for your service brother !!!my father served during your time over their he was a wolfhound 125th infantry div ...a tunnel rat .... and i served on the U.S.S Devastator (mcm-6) mine counter measures in Kosovo !!!!!
Oh I bet❤🙏 Saw them a few times, first time they opened up for Van Halen back in like '92 and IMMEDIATELY became my favorite singer and band of all time that night ❤️🙏❤️🙏 Waited for the next album to come out every time after, till Layne lost his battle.. my goodness was Layne blessed with immense talent from God 🙏❤️🙏
man this is epic lol I really don't understand what he's saying like but fuck it he is the legend and the whole rooster song was written with him in mind. rock on Jerry rock on. 🤟🤟
Could he be any more okie? Sad that all the Vietnam veterans didn't get the recognition he has.. I know my great uncle didn't.. and unfortunately he thought he was back there again after his stroke right before he died. For so many no one knew that they were still their inside themselves.
@@sauceybuster This was my first concert, 15 at the time, must've been the youngest there too. For straight months i listened non stop to alice in chains and even knew the setlist by looking at previous shows. I got inline hours before everyone to make sure to get front stage and boy was it worth it. I shit you not after a song William handed me his pick looking straight into my eyes, yes i had a fangirl moment. Also Mike the bassist was always looking surprised at me and later threw like 7 picks. I still have them till this day with the ticket framed on my wall.
That is great. Such a great thing that even though Jerry Jr. had a difficult time with his dad when he was a kid. Eventually, Jerry Jr. wrapped his mind around what his dad went through perhaps without really wanting to serving his country in conflict the Vietnam war. But he was a strong man! Being married to a Vietnamese woman from Saigon and going (2011-2015) to the land her mother's parents owned (farm) and seeing a giant hole in the ground and having to leave their home gives you some perspective about Communism. And the worst part was Jerry Sr. fought in a war lost soldier friends and after all that we had the war won with the Paris Peace Accords and the gutless U.S. Congress didn't fund the final year was gross incompetence (pressure from that the likes of that sick snatch Hanoi Jane Fonda) that really screwed over the south Vietnamese. They LOST everything. We didn't fight Communism with the win or go home attitude. Now we are getting worked by China. The loser media keeps ramming Russia down our throat. Ever notice in movies that the bad guy is ONLY Russia and almost NEVER CHINA...Yeah...wake up folks! It is about to happen again in Afghanistan with Dementia Joe, even though Trump wanted to pull out during his Presidency; and we should have been outta there 15 years prior. But, when we leave that place will return to a hell hole. Sad for them. Jerry Sr. thanks for your service!
Walk tall machine gun man.
Jerry Sr.= The Rooster
Jerry Jr. = The GOAT
Here comes the rooster!
Everyone in the band hugging Jerry Cantrell SR has to be one of the most wholesome on stage Alice In Chains moments ever.
if only every rock n roll musician had a father who was as supportive as this, hats off for THE ROOSTER!!

Wow, Jerry wasn't kidding that his dad was "an Oklahoma man through and through". Kinda surprised Jerry doesn't have more of an accent.

Old warrior knows how to hype up a crowd👍🏾👍🏾
I think it's nice that jerry and his dad are still close
Me too 😊❤
You should see their ranch..it's huge
So glad the Rooster got his moment in the spotlight. My own dad died before I got a chance to make peace with him. The biggest regret of my life..
I was just starting to get along with my dad and then he got sick and died.
** there is absolutely NO DOUBT that they are both watching proudly from above ❤️🙏
Our time here is short, but we are there, above, forever..
It’s okay, it’s ok. ❤❤❤❤
Great to see the crowd’s support for Jerry Senior. Jerry’s dad has longer hair than Jerry at this point in time!
Beautiful seeing seeing Jerry Sr and Jr together; the son paying tribute to his father's wartime service. God bless them both.
Thank you for your service Sir. We all love you.
Just when you thought these guys couldn’t be any cooler.
Awww....I cried a little when he gave the band a hug. Viva la Rooster!!!!!
And Mike giving him a kiss and a hug. How sweet!
