Cameron Cornish said it best on the Soul of Cinder's battle and music "Three notes... Just three... And everything came flooding back. We left the asylum... Fought through Lordran's broken and twisted world... Struggled against Ornstein & Smough... Found the four great one's souls... Saved Oolacile from Manus and The Abyss... Cried because of Sif... Then found Gwyn as the hollowed and abandoned god... We awoke in Drangleic... Sought out four great souls again... Discovered Vendrick as a hollowed and broken king... Sought out the crowns of three kings from different ages... Received Vendrick's blessing to break free of the curse... Fought Nashandra for the throne... Then left the kiln with Aldia to find a cure... We were born again in Lothric... Hunted down and returned four great souls that linked the fire from their ages to their thrones... We were sent to the kiln of the first flame... We journeyed up a familiar path to an open area... In the distance we saw a flame with a single knight standing guard... We fought this knight only to realize this knight was all of us... Every single player who has ever linked the flame... This knight was a mage, a priest, a spearman, a thief, a warrior, and a pyromancer... A valiant fight that ultimately led to us being the victor...... But In a desperate attempt to stop us, the knight rose once more with flames pouring from every part of its body, bringing back the raging soul of a god from a long forgotten age... The three notes played... And... We were broken... We wanted to stop fighting... We no longer wanted to link the flame, kill this knight, be the chosen undead, the bearer or the curse, or the ashen one... We just wanted someone to sit by the fire with us... And for the first time ever, we felt someone who understood our pain really could join us by the bonfire.... Ultimately though, the final strike was made and this ancient soul fell for the last time... The husk of a god finally put to an uneasy rest; lost in the annals of history just like his son, his knights, and his kingdom... We went to the bonfire... And our fire keeper stood there smiling... Grasping the flame like an infant, she allowed the fire to soon extinguish... "Darkness will shortly settle... But one day tiny flames will dance across the darkness.... Like embers linked by lords past." Standing beside her, the world fades to black as we see the final shred of light die away... "Ashen one, hearest thou my voice, still?..." Thank you, From Software for letting this series end as gently as the first flame did. We will never forget this immense gift you've given us."
I can only imagine what the original Dark Souls players felt. After playing Dark Souls to death, after waiting for so long, lived through all those years up to this one moment, and being hit with these 3 notes...
Underneath all the souls that were burned.., one still remains burning.. only resurfacing as needed always as a final test to see those that are truly worthy to link the flame... the lord of Sunlight, Gwyn.. harboring remnants of a lord soul, the soul of light. The one that first sacrificed themselves to the flame.
The first time I got to the 2nd phase I died because I had tears in my eyes and I couldn't see anymore. When I wiped my tears I died. It definitely hit me hard when I head Gwyn's theme and it was very unexpected. In an instant I got back memories of my first Dark Souls playthrough and nostalgia hit me like a truck. After beating the Lord of Cinder I instantly put my sign down and started helping people beat him just to hear the music again. What an experience and emotions these souls games have given me...
If you fight nameless king you may recognize some of his movements. it's because it is his son.. but also he has ornstein moves because he's buddies with ornstein.
Im so jealous of the feeling that og ds players mustve had when hearing this for the first time after waiting years for this moment. Was too young to understand these games back then. But I can imagine the goosebumps if I get them now.

@@gatocate9374 yeah, once we understand how the world was before their victory against the dragons we can understand his point of view, but by trying to protect his age of fire at any cost, he became the very obstacle to be conquered for the next age, just like the dragons themselves, but still... to end the cycle with Soul of Cinder is so poetic... you know what i mean?
