When I was 8, my father came to get me because he had visiting rights at the time.Every time that I saw him in those days, he had a different car. Back when he had a red '67 Mustang, he was literally the FIRST person that would strap me in the seat belt in an age when nobody wore them, but one Saturday morning, as I was waiting outside, I see this HUGE powder blue '66 Lincoln sedan with suicide doors come rolling in.That was his new car! In my lifetime, I have never ridden in a car that was so smooth, so LARGE, and so exotic as that car was. Unfortunately for my father, he went on to sell it, and bought a brand new 1976 Fiat 131 A, that was a total lemon.
Finally Lincoln came out with a 2-door hardtop for 1966. It sell about 6 times more then a convertible sedan, but it sold about half of sedan's volume. All came with V-8 engine.
At the 3:11 mark the hood safety feature was to keep the person on the curb side away from traffic . This design was very close to the Mark III that was made for mid-68 as a 1969 to get the jump on the Riviera to show a a high volume for its first year. Lincoln shortened the rear and widened the "B" pillar at the base and made the door longer. The front was extended and gave the MK III the record for the longest Hood on a production vehicle of 7 feet before the grill and front light section . These cars had the transmissions bench tested for issues under the exact loads for real time use , the engine had a jig to test it and a simulated transmission to put a load on it. Next they were put together and tested , and then put in the car once calibrated and then fine tune the linkages and and vacuum systems and gear changes and fixed speeds. I believe that they still used leather from ranchers that didn't have barbed wire that damage the hides, and the seats were from one sheet of hide to produce a even grain and texture for the leather . The only thing this car could use is a once over by a top painter to see if i. t can be buffed to restore the glass like finish .
+Gary wood yes, I still remember in mid 68 the Mk III, was a limited production car, and then in late 68, it was announced that due to the interest in the car, they were opening it to full production. ( it was a advertising gimmick ) I still remember what a big deal the new 66 2dr Lincoln was
A work of art. Will always be a classic. Though I love Cadillac from that era too...in those days they really looked like Cadillacs. Even my mother, who knew ZERO about cars, could always recognize a Caddy when she saw one.
To Fleming Ultimate The Gentleman showing that beautiful 66 Lincoln I think the reason the safety latch on the right side would have to do with the fact that if you had a problem under the hood and were pulled to the side of the road you were out of the way of oncoming traffic, thus the possibility of being hit by a car! (not so safe however if that car was a 4 door hence the name suicide doors)
nice video, im working on one of them, im puting together a 67 lincoln but im lost, yes cause somebody take it out everything and now im put together, i just order a book to see what happend
the music is out of place. is better to hear the car's original sounds. the car would be worth 50,374.21 in today's dollars. sounds about right. speaking of sound, at 9:55 - the pre-cat era luxury car sound.
It's not really surprising a model like this is all original. Probably owned by an older responsible person and as far as keeping it original, what the hell would you make not original? What would anyone want to change?
I own a 1967 Coupe. That is a cream puff. Very sweet car. Owned mine for 11 years or so. They turn heads!
Hey Victor I have a 66 coupe that I'm restoring with my son, would really appreciate it if you hit me up sometime, we can use some help thanks 👍

Wow! You almost never see the Lincoln coupe from this period, unless it's a Mark. Most are the 4-dr sedans or 4-dr convertibles. Beautiful car.

I love '60s Lincolns and this one is awesome. I love the color.
