Im from Tennessee. I met Charlie quite a few times in his life and he was truly one of the most charming and respectful people I have ever met in my life. I swear that man can be nicer than my momma and meaner than my daddy. He is dearly missed from all of us here in Tennessee. Heavens having a hoedown like they never have before.

I met Charlie Daniels on a deployment in 2004. He was really old then and still out visiting and performing for the troops at that age.

Even though my Daddy weened me on CDB, and a few other ‘outlaws’, I’ve been a fan of my own choosing for well over 40 years and you guys have been there through all of it, good and bad. Saw Mr. Daniels once in concert back when I was in high school. He played a fiddle over his head. I am convinced he is the best fiddle player ever.

R.I.P. Charlie Daniels!! This was the first very song of his that I heard as a teenager in the early 1990s. This song and "Honky Tonk Life" were the first two...since then I've heard dozens more. "Still in Saigon" is incredible.
Of all the things we have lost during this planneddemic---Charlie was one of the things I hated to lose the most.......WOW to see people line the streets to see His Casket go by draped in an American flag, showed what a nice and respected man he was........I believe you are playing that fiddle in Heaven now but we sure miss you here..........What a Legend he was.......R.I.P. and GOD bless your family....Play it Charlie...........

Grew up visiting my TN granny who lived into her late 90s by the grace of God after having 9 children after she quit school in the 3 rd grade to raise her brothers and sisters after her Momma died while her Daddy worked. She cooked from scratch on a wood burning stove as a kid and fed a whole lot more folks than just her family and fought asshole politicians that tried to take her land for a road and tried ti cut through her garden and she won after the government made thier old home place a national park.

For reference, I'm an Englishman now living in Ireland and I've got to say I've loved this song from the very first time I heard it over 25 years ago!
It's completely outside my usual goth/synth/rock genres that I enjoy but a good tune is a good tune! Probably why I also like Buddy Holly, Beach Boys, John Denver etc etc.
Aside from the religion and Gorbachev, he was absolutely bang on the money with this song, it's probably even more relevant today than when it was written.
Only just discovered he has recently passed, what a loss.
