Just an FYi the bowl won't be ruined, just re heat and wipe clean with a paper towel and hot soapy water after. Vitamin E can be used as a preservative if you'd like a 1/2 teaspoon should work and they can be stored long term wrapped tightly in the freezer just like lip balms can.
Enjoyed the video. I did something similar but used water and glycerin to actually hydrate my skin and not just moisturize. Glad theres not essential oils and what not like so many others add.
Thank you Patrick! That’s excellent. There are several soap melts that work great for this. Glycerin is awesome. I even love the olive oil based ones too.
@@zolawilliams1 there are a lot of videos that show how to make a lotion that has water and glycerin and not just oils and butters. I need hydration not just oil.
Hi! You can add essential oils to this. There is a sweet scent from the cocoa butter but if you want to scent them further you can add any blend you’d like. I have done lavender, rose essential oil and sweet orange before. Those gave the bars a nice scent. I use about 10-15 drops and add it in directly after taking the double boiler off the heat. Hope this helps.
Yes they can! But I find they are more difficult to get enough lotion off of them if they are too cold. So you will need to warm them in your hands when using.
Hi Diane! Yes it’s 1 cup of beeswax pellets for this recipe. You can also save the recipe for later if you’d like. There’s a link in the description for the full recipe card as well. Hope this helps. And thank you so much for watching :)
Hi Lena. No they do not need one. They last several months if kept in a cool dry place. However an FYI since these have coconut oil in them, be sure to not store them in paper. Use a container with them laying flat or even individually wrapped works too if your wanting to make a batch to store for use later.
Is there a natural preservative (i.e. citric acid) to give them a longer shelf life? And can I use different oils such as palm oil or shea butter? Loved this video, thank you!
Thank you! I have used shea butter as an alternative and that has worked fine. I haven’t tried adding a natural preservative. That would be great for shelf life. These has lasted me several months without it. I would be curious to see how long they would last with one!
Vitamin e is a natural preservative and you can extend the shelf life by wrapping them and storing in the freezer. When I make fifty lip balms at a time this is how I store them so they are fresh. Shea butter works great too.
Does the oil have to be solid at room temperature to make lotion bars? I have everything except coconut oil. Thanks for the video super easy to follow :)
I am glad it’s helpful! If it’s under 76 degrees where the coconut oil is stored it will need to be heated a little to be in liquid form to mix the bars. I use a double boiler (sauce pot and bowl) on the stove to add everything and mix everything together.
@@cheetodust745 oh I see now. I haven’t actually tried using another oil however if I was gonna try another oil, the olive oil would be the one I used. Olive oil is really good for the skin! It just may harden up ok with the beeswax and cocoa butter but I am not 100% sure. If you try it, let me know if it turns out! That would be a great alternative.

Thanks for sharing I will make these we have a honey bee farm and lots of bees wax.
That’s amazing! I would love to have bees myself one day. I hope you enjoy the recipe 😊
Love the video. Bob and I watched it together. I'm gonna do this. Looks like it would be a great moisturizer for my tired skin.
They work good! And smell good too cause of the cocoa butter :)
Very cool video, thank you for sharing

How did you add water and glycerin? Did you emulsify it..? Confused as to how water would could mix into this recipe...
