    Crazy you just put these vids on UA-cam for free. So much of this info is something you used to only find out after years of schooling and being an intern. Really hope this channel blows up more.

    Although I'm still a student who handles all the post-production process, I will group my tracks like this. This video is very useful for students just like me.
    And I also learned a new word "food groups" in English.
    I already join in the waiting list, hope private group open as fast as possible.❤❤❤

    I've heard the phrase food groups from quite several conversations on the internet with audio post-production professionals but it's often used in passing with no specifics on what it means. I've still done a little bit of research here on UA-cam but I've not seen any video explaining what it is until now.
    Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏽

      I currently do sound design for TV commercials and I would love to see how you would organize your tracks for something like that.

    So, you don't add food groups for BG tracks, you use food groups only for FX tracks? For BG tracks you only use Scene A and Scene B approach, is that right?

      I do use food group for both. I use them more often for FX, but BGs will also have groups so k can easily EQ all the tracks if needed. Thanks for watching!

    grouping EQs on your predub tracks is usually not a great idea- if you need to do that sort of global EQ (And it is often required) doing it on a group aux is far easier to deal with.

      Hey Charles! Thanks for your input and for taking the time to check out the video! I appreciate the feedback. I understand that using a group aux for global EQ can be a practical solution and is often preferred by many. It’s a valid approach that works well for many. Heck, I done the exact thing! For me, because I’m a very visual person, I find it helpful to see the EQ moves directly on all the tracks within a specific group, like FX B. This method helps me quickly and intuitively make adjustments, especially when I need to roll off the high end across multiple tracks, but not affect other fx food groups. It’s just a matter of personal preference and what works best for each individual’s workflow. As you know, there’s no one-size-fits-all in our industry, and different techniques work for different folks. The great thing is that we all have our own unique ways of achieving the best results. Thanks again for sharing your perspective Charles!!

    You have mono and stereo tracks in your FX and BG groups. What do you typically include on the stereo tracks and what do you include on the mono tracks?

    • @masteringpostproductionsound
      @masteringpostproductionsound  2 місяці тому

      Mono tracks will usually have fx that I will keep in the center channel, stuff coming out of the center of the screen (monitor). Think, door closes, gun cocks, keys, any kind of computer sound, phones, etc. Any sound fx that can use some complementary stereo sounds could be added, for example-punches. You could have several mono tracks of different sound making up a single punch and add a stereo whoosh to help create some pre hit weight. And I definitely have a good deal of sound design fx that are in stereo. So, each of my food group of fx have place for monks and stereos. Oh thought of another example, car idles. You have mono car motor sound for an interior driving scene and add a few stereo layers of suspension and motor to help beef it up. Hope this conversation help bring light to why I have both mono and stereo in a food group. Thanks for taking time to watch and ask!
