    I want everyone to know that the ways we modified this wheel were based on simply trying to see if this wheel *can* spin. Please don't take a drill to your antiques unless you have consulted a woodworker who is knowledgeable about spinning wheels! I do have an upcoming project where I will actually restore an antique wheel to functionality so make sure you are subscribed if you are interested in more videos about spinning wheels!

    I'm so excited to see this project! We talk about SWSOs all the time in the spinning communities, but it is nice to have videos about them to point people to when they are looking for an antique wheel that will actually work.

      Thank you! Figuring out how to spin is tricky and no one needs the obstacle of difficult (or impossible) equipment to learn on. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Did you see part 2? Here's the link! ua-cam.com/video/-nPSyeZPT78/v-deo.html

    YAY! Spinocchio has become a real wheel! I am so happy to see that you and your husband were able to make it work. I am eager to see how Spinocchio does with some fiber. If possible, would you consider showing any issues that still might need to be worked out or hick-ups in the process of trying to spin with it? P.s I was tickled to see that you went with the name I suggested on Instagram, I think it suits it well. :)

      Yes! I love it, and as you can see from the comments, several people are fans of the name! Thank you! I haven't actually spun on the wheel yet which is absolutely trying my patience because I want to spin on it soooooo much! However, I'm waiting to spin until I get the fiber and record the video. Send me strength... I can do this. LOL! I'm sure I will discover many more quirks when I spin on it and I might need to make more adjustments. We will see!

    I must show you my saxony flyer, it is homemade but brilliantly done. No threaded rod is needed and it can spin S and Z!!
    🤣🤣 I love the name!!! Clever play on word!

    Thank you so much for this! I was given a SWSO, and it DOES spin, (I managed to spin a little yarn, badly, but it did work) however, there is no tension adjustment on it. Watching your video however, I now see how I can add a tension adjuster like the one you have added. It will turn this from a decorative semi-working piece into something that will work! Hallelujah! Thanks for the idea!

    Eve, I adore your channel! But this video is actually my absolute favourite. I am from Austria and believe it or not, purchased exactly such an spinning wheel shaped object in the form of a Tyrolean spinning wheel. I am not sure, if I am going to mod mine but it gives me great hope for my future in spinning on a wheel, since this one wasn't even meant to work. But till I have the money for a real deal wheel I will keep going on my spindle :).

    I got my first spindle and some wool to work with. The first wool I am working on is my least favorite, it is super super course. I figured I would get used to it and get most of the mistakes out on wool I didnt like anyway before I went to the nicer stuff.
    I think it is going fairly well with park and draft though I did have to fight with the machine processed top, but I have been fluffing it up some and it is working well now.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  4 роки тому

      I agree, a lot of machine processed top needs fluffing. It gets compacted together when it is processed and shipped which makes drafting difficult. Coarse wool can be good for certain applications. Do you have a desire to make rugs or wall hangings? That's usually where my coarse wool ends up. I think you will find that when you switch to fine wools, the spinning process feels a little different. You have to start somewhere though right? Happy spinning! ❤🐑✨🧶

    That was great! I found a wheel that I thought was real, and the owner said it was just for show. It look SO REAL! I was very disappointed. What you have done with this spinning wheel shaped object was awesome, and I'll be excited to see the video of refurbishing a real antique. I'm currently looking for one to refurbish and add to my 'collection' of one (so far lol)
