Casio started to advertise the J-50 Jogging Watch in 1982. Affectionately known as the "running man" watch, this pace-setter lets you calculate your jogging performance using a combination of your stride length and jogging pace.
The cool running man animation was captivating and ensured that this model took its place in watch history. Check out the retro vintage style and see the layout of the dial and buttons that inspired countless watches from Casio over the years.

I saw this in the jewelry display case at Kmart in 1985 when I was in first grade. I thought the running man and segmented display were so cool. I begged grandma and it became my birthday present. I then kept running up and down the block trying to beat my best time. I wore it about a year until the Super Mario Bros and Zelda watches caught my eye. Thanks for the memories.
I loved my J-50 in the 80's when I was a serious runner.
"if you run like this man you'll have to return this watch"
that killed me
My dad had this watch he gave it to me when I was younger.. Miss that watch
The smart watch back in the days... And they work independently :)
Great video. I had one of these watches in high school and LOVED it. I too was mesmerized by the running man. I probably still have the watch somewhere in the attic but remember the strap ripped after many years of use. Thank you for making this video. It brings back such good memories.
I always wanted that model but never had the chance thank you for doing this video
My very first watch ever was the J-30. Got it as a present from my parents when I graduated from 6th grade.
Relógio espetacular ⌚👏👏👏
Awesome video again. I wish we knew back then what incredible gems these casios were, and that nothing like them would ever be produced again. I too somehow "lost" my first Casio, the 52QS-14 that I got around 1980, even though I kept it for a long time as it was in good condition. Very rare now as it was the metal case predecessor of the "Ellen Ripley Alien" F100, and used the same module.
Tell me about it. Hindsight is always 20/20. Wow, you had that watch? Would love to get one of those haha
We can see this watch in the 1985 film Light Blast (Colpi di luce, original title) with Erik Estrada.
Love the vintage look.
cool watch! 😦
I got a Pepsi brand watch in 1997 that has the same running man animation but it doesn't have a manufacturer listed on the case back.
Very, very cool 80ies tech 👍
I remember in the 80’s as a little kid my dad had a J51 and he gave it to me when he moved on to a different watch. I worn that thing out. Wish I knew what happened to it. Maybe I’ll try to find another one at some point.
I had the J-51w 👍
Cool watch. Can’t wait for review on the Casio DW-291H
1:04 that guy is a ninja
Haha Naruto
Awesome Can The Jogging Watch Still Be Purchased Today?
Awesome review 😎
Another great review, thank you for sharing with us. That J-50 is in amazing condition. Did you buy it that way or did you refurbish it?
Thanks man! I got a new crystal for it. The original was pretty beat up and it was a snap to fix :)
@@WatchingCasio How hard is it to replace the crystal? Is it just removing the module and pushing the crystal (face plate) out from the inside? Would you glue in the replacement crystal to the watch case?
Not hard at all. Yep, just remove the module and buttons and push it. I can't remember if you push in or out. I think in. Just be careful and apply steady, even pressure. No glue required. It was pretty easy. Good luck!
ok, thanks.
Cool 😎
Great video once again, excited to see more!
Thank you!
I just subscribed :)
@@WatchingCasio Thank you! I'm the Casio Rare Collectors group admin if you don't know, i love your posts there
Oh very cool. I will definitely check it out. Thanks!
@@WatchingCasio No problem
I wanna see some of those game watches.
I've been keeping a lookout but man, they are pricey.
Didn't this also have "Love me Tender" as one of the Alarms? Except, it couldn't hold a note or rest, so it was "lovemetenderlovemesweetneverletmego" at a fast tempo.
I still got my Casio J-50 since 1985/86 with a new battery in, and still youse the stop watch for running. All working order I haven't got the original watch strap. If I found a original strap what would I expect to pay?
I like
Wonder if the Casio W740 JC11 resin rubber strap would complement the original strap better than the strap you have on it now.
Jesus christ how many cool casios are there?
Dunno. Haven't stopped counting yet!
Cool watch! That running man icon was incorporated into other models as well.
Thanks for sharing.
Btw... Do you make a purchase for Casio TE-2500? I would like to see you do a detail review on this one.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching. Man I would love to review the TE2500. They're pretty expensive but I'll keep an eye out for a good deal.
@@WatchingCasio Hey brother, maybe you could check out with eBay like you told me about AX-210? Maybe you could have some lucks? I can't wait for your review on TE-2500. (Thumbs up)
I'd be hunting for this one as well.
Another great review as always. Keep it up. Are you on WatchUSeek forum? I have started reviewing watches over there.
Thanks a lot! Much appreciated. I don't have an account there yet. Just a lurker so far haha
@@WatchingCasio you're welcome. I go by the name Viper 45 there and have reviewed a number of watches there so far.
Cool video and content 👍 Personally hate (a bit strong emotion probably 😊 ) the background «music»/ticking/repeatnoise. Just makes it annoying after a minute. For example the Titanium/Sapphire Casio is great, and missing background music just brings focus to the content. You do good reviews, so keep up the videos 👍 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I thought the music added a bit of interest to keep things moving. I'll experiment with other options.
Watching Casio Music brings things along nice when you’re not speaking I think, so I agree to the idea 👍
I remember the animation slowed down when the pace was set up to a slower one too, is it true or am I having a Mandela effect memory thing?
Pretty sure the animation changes based on the pace.
Nice review capt, would u review casio dep?
Which one??
@@WatchingCasio like dep 600 or 700 capt, it has depth meter for diving (like a diving comp) and a thermometer on it
Nicely done! Is the battery a CR 2016? I have the watch but the battery was removed decades ago.
Yep, that's right.
@@WatchingCasio Thanks, got the battery and saw the running man!
Hi WC, I'm looking for an old Casio from the late 80s early 90s that had a detachable button cable that ran out to your thumb so you could do the splits one-handed. Any idea of the serial No?
Oh jeez, no I've never heard of that! I would check the watch forums like watchuseek.
Как их заказать?
That is an incredible watch. I actually recently did a video on the Casio DB-V30 a voice recording watch from 1995 which is pretty incredible to see. I love the running man animation on this watch! I can see why when you were younger it would be so mesmerizing it’s so smooth and very crisp. I wish Casio would introduce something like this today. I personally don’t think smart watches have enough features required to give you that type of experience that this Casio does. ua-cam.com/video/42fTR-7EbRA/v-deo.html
Is there a running woman watch? 😂
Casio definitely makes women's running watches. Just do a search on Amazon. For example: Casio LWS-2000H
I have one!! 😆 But these older watches can't hold time anymore because the timing Chrystal has deteriorated too much.
