This is how I like to describe the plot of Doom:

To be fair to Doom Guy, his 'fist' is him wearing brass knuckles, which would be a very efficient weapon in the hands of someone as strong as Doom Guy, seeing as he can just carry around hundreds of pounds in weapons and ammo with no slowdown in movement

I'm pretty sure the fist is much harder to use even with berserk on the PS1 controller.
The movement isn't very smooth in the PSX version, so unfortunately the fist isn't nearly as reliable as it is in the PC version. There's a reason this isn't the version Decino plays when he punches Barons.

The PS1 version was so good back in the day. I remember playing it on a surround sound system in the dark. The atmosphere makes you feel so uncomfortable. It is so effective that I find myself needing a break in between levels.
What can I say about DOOM?
Well beyond being the game that made my balls drop so hard I'm still in pain years latter, it's pretty damn good.

I always found the change of Doom's classic music to something more atmospheric much creepier. I've realized that the music is what really empowers me to slay demons, but when that's gone it dawns on me how alone I am. The droning ambience, the breathing of the creatures around the corners hiding in the darkness, and the metallic echoes of the large industrial mechanical doors opening and slamming shut behind me. When there's no music I remember that I am alone. Nobody is coming to help me. It honestly turns it into far more of a horror game then I ever thought possible and I think a simple change of music doing that really is a testament to how well designed the game is, in my personal opinion.
Now time for DOOM on Switch

For ages, too - Doom 1 and 2 are available on the GBA and probably some homebrew versions for smartphones and tablets, too. Doom 4... well, yes, that's on Switch now. At 30FPS. Which, for that game, is a horrible idea.

That is a shame, but keep in mind, it isn't done yet. Splatoon 2 went from being locked at 720p at the testfire to upto 1080p (and never going lower than 864p) in the final game. I'm confident, if the team is really trying, that they can push it to 60fps.

YA GOT THE DEFINITION OF "ULTIMATE DOOM" WRONG!
It's a re-release of the original doom with a 4th chapter made after Doom's popularity EXPLODED.
There were a few tweaks to existing levels though, like in E1M1. There’s a button present in Ultimate DOOM that wasn’t there in the Shareware release. Now, I don’t know if it was present in the original mail-order release in 1993. I never played the original MS-DOS release beyond Shareware.

Edit: People have been saying that Daisy’s head is on a spike. Not in doomguy’s hand. Yes, Daisy’s head is on a spike...In the ending of episode 3: Inferno. Daisy’s head is in doom guy’s hand after Thy Flesh Consumed’s ending. In the end, however, the PSX version ends with a wall of text and an enemy “role call”.

Also, you did remember that room's secret switch correctly early in the episode, but it was on the PC version. Elements were removed from the PS1 version to make it fit and run smoothly.

Okay, in the original doom and doom II if you died, you WOULD lose everything.
I know you are the "PS1 Guy" but you should totally look into Doom 64, really hammers the atmosphere home with the level and sound design.

Well, except for the music, which they got right, but everything else? No.
Actually, now that I think about it, the N64 version isn't even really a port, it's more of a spin off since it has all new levels.
opli gangaa Where the fuck is this coming from? The level design is great, the sound design is just as foreboding as the PS1 port, and the entire game is made up of original assets. The PS1 port was the more direct and accurate port, while the N64 version was meant to be it's own thing with all the new content, and it does it great. I actually really like the N64 port.
ToxicBoo All of the ports had their own issues, Jaguar was probably the closest but it had no damn music, like at all! The 32X port was pretty ugly as well.

It's a nice average RPG. There were much better ones at the time, though.
Ray01X The appeal for LoD that made it stand apart from most RPGs at the time was the fact that the combat wasn't just push one button and watch it happen, the contextual button presses to extend attacks and gain dragoon energy was a fairly unique idea and actually gave players some form of interaction where usually there was none. I still love LoD, but I will agree the story was pretty much your usual fantasy affair of evil monster vs. the party, but the combat and the characters still have a place in my heart to this day and I generally do a full playthrough every few years or so.

Oh you thought Thy Flesh Consumed was hard Caddy - you should try playing Plutonia Experiment from Final Doom (which also happens to be on PS1!), that gets beyond fucking silly at times on Ultra-Violence!

i cant remember the name of it but try playing that map that has 50 of each boss and all u have is an abaslute ass ton of pistol and shotgun ammo to beat them and the exit is locked untill u kill them all
I love listening to Caddy slowly getting faster and faster on his explanation of the intro; eventually it'll just be a perfectly enunciated stream of noise that is somehow a correct sentence while also being like a shotgun blast of sound into my ears.

@@aagh8714 The thought of having those two together is pretty funny to me, because Bayonetta is at least 7' (215cm) tall while Doomslayer WITH the praetor suit (I believe) is about 6'0" (180cm), so I'm just imagining those Samus/Little Mac pieces. I also just imagine them working together hunting demons, like the demons aren't that scared of a giant dominatrix that has a bunch of torture devices and can stop time, but they completely shit their pants the second they see a guy who doesn't even come up to her shoulders.

The PS3 version of doom is disappointing as controls are different & there is no option for setting up the controller to suit.

The version I beat is BFG edition, it pretty much had all the original Doom games and Doom 3 with a flashlight button.
9:14 Go to the menu (by pressing start), enter password, it will be pre-filled. You will start the level with whatever you had previosly.
I was actually playing around with GZDoom mods and configurations when this video showed up in my subscription box. Odd.

DOOM for PS1 was the first DOOM that I ever actually owned. The improved sound effects spoiled me; I have to use those sound effects even when playing on PC now.
Improved? You should have just gotten a better soundcard, seriously every sound is like a new one with a soundcard (even changes depending on which soundcard.)
I had an AWE32 at the time, but no soundcard, no matter how high-end, could change the PC DOOM's sound effects to match the Playstation DOOM's sound effects. Every effect is redone and almost all for the better; those that are not better are merely "just as good".

This is the doom game I grew up with, ahhhh scary times (the music and enemy sounds helped with creepiness)
Also at the end of each level you get a code in order to restart your current level with all your weapons and health/armor when you die
Best port ever.
