I am currently a clinical professional in the hospital setting and contemplating this move. This video has been a great review of the transition and helped me see it as a possibility
Thank you for your feedback Joel. Good look on the transition. The only caveat is that it's harder to get sponsored these days. We've posted a follow up video with another EPIC Consultant for more insight. ua-cam.com/video/2y4M6OjUI-Q/v-deo.html
I've been trying to find a way to get my foot in the door with Epic since 2015 and have not had a lucky break yet. Hoping that will change soon as I am skilling up in IT and programming, and have 20+ years of pharmacy experience.
Hi Carl, we wish you the best of luck. We know someone personally that has been trying since 2012 but didn't get the opportunity until this year. I believe there is another UA-cam channel and website that focuses specifically on EPIC Pharmacy. We'll try to find the links for you.
Here is the Yotube: ua-cam.com/video/-LYn12tpgV4/v-deo.html Here is the website we found with a few course: pharmacyinformaticsacademy.com/courses/introductorycourse/ Not sure if this is helpful or not. But figured we'd share. Good luck and happy holidays! 😊
Hello. I currently work for an employer who uses Epic. I plan to speak with my manager or HR to gain insight in regards to sponsorship. If all things go well, is a sphynx/assessment test required before being accepted to the Epic training program? I cannot seem to find the answer to that specifically.
Good luck. In our experience, and the experience of my peers the sphynx test was required before getting accepted. However, as applicants, we never found out the results or how we did. It was a difficult test and it seems the scoring was based on logic, critical thinking and how we came to the answer rather than just right/wrong.
Great! Thanks for sharing. There’s hope for individuals with healthcare experience like myself to land a job using EPIC. Wish everyone the best who’s interested.
I am interested in getting into this field. I have work experience in health care. I worked in the lab for two years and have BS in Health Informatics and information management. I worked as a help desk analyist for a hospital for two years as well. How can I get myself in the door in the hospitals if I don’t have certification?
Hi Marta G in Alabama. From speaking with EPIC analysts, it seems that you will first need to be sent to training by the hospital you work for. You wouldn't be able to get training on your own. If the hospital you work for has EPIC implemented, then perhaps you can ask your manager if there is opportunity for you to get sponsored. We just posted a follow up video with an EPIC consultant who provides some further insight. ua-cam.com/video/2y4M6OjUI-Q/v-deo.html
Hi Brittany. The Epic analysts I've asked have told me it's difficult but not impossible. Check out the other two interviews about EPIC we have on our channel. Hope it may help answer your question better.
Any tips on how to become Healthy Planet certified? I work for a huge healthcare system and have an MPH, and am interested in building my skills toward the position of Healthy Planet Analyst.
Shaina sorry, we asked but they don't do private coaching. We are a little late on this reply so hopefully you are already certified and living your best life right now.
I'm taking my sphinx test on Friday 😩 can you tell me how I can prepare for the programming portion (I'm an MLS with no IT experience) And is the math super hard or just word problems?
Hello. Asked a few EPIC analysts and consultants but unfortunately they've never heard of the Sphinx test. Guess it wasn't around 10 years ago. Perhaps this site and the comments on it can be helpful for you. thepharmacistlife.com/requirements-for-epic-certification-the-epic-sphinx-test/ Best of luck on your exam Friday! 👍
You're in luck that I'm trolling some of these videos in advance of my new analyst position I start on Tuesday :) I just took the Sphinx a month or so ago and passed. The bad news is that it's as hard as they say -- the good news is that you just need to be able to think well, and be decent with logical reasoning and language. I can't say too much specifically, since Epic has (rightfully) a lot of privacy and agreements that you are made to sign in order to not leak these things, but I can give you a few general tips that I've seen other "official" people say publicly: 1) The programming language you're given is a made-up language for the test. They will teach it to you through the questions in the test and then they test your ability to learn that info on the fly and implement it. This was the hardest part for me, as even thoughI have a math degree, I do not have much programming experience outside of very basic stuff. This should give you comfort... you really don't need any programming experience, except maybe familiarity with the IDEAS of programming. 2) The second two portions can vary, but basically think of language/word, logic, and graph/chart problems that you may find on something like the GRE or LSAT. The test is timed, and they purposefully make the time limits tough. I did not finish all the questions on the third portion even though I was pretty fast on the first two, yet I still "passed". So don't fret too much. You definitely don't need to be perfect. Also be prepared to never find out exactly how you did. They have internal scoring metrics, but you will either be told you passed or failed. In some cases you may get more information if you passed on how "well" you passed, but I can't say much more than that. Good luck! Don't stress, get sleep, and you will be fine :)
Also the link that HeathIT with BeekAE posted is still pretty good considering most of the comments are a couple years old. I briefly read through and they still hold true in 2022 it seems. Good luck again.
@@XavierMacX thank you so much! How long is the time limit? 2 hrs? My recruiter said to try not to take longer than an hour or the questions get harder..whatever that means lol

Skill wise it seems you have a stronger chance than most. Still the hard part is obtaining the cert itself. Here are the 3 ways to get certified below. Sadly yes, sometimes who you know matters more than just hard work alone. However it's good to continue to network, be persistent, stay positive. You never know. 🤞

Perhaps a combination of both. And luck.
No because you still have to get the training and “pass” the certification.
Not really.. we have RN analyst running our epic right now and it’s a nightmare in the lab. They have no idea what we need on our side.
