    In this video I answer 5 common INAV questions. Some of which seem to turn up after each new release. The questions are:
    - What do I need to do to update INAV?
    - What does AUTO LEVEL do?
    - What is saved when I save settings or disarm?
    - Is continuous servo trim safe on a V Tail?
    - How can I put a servo on a different output pin?

    Hello again mr D....couple of questions if u don't mind gvg some tips
    1.why inav throttle starts at 20%?
    2.how to limit maximum throttle in inav
    Fyi im using 6.1.1

    • @MrD
      @MrD  9 місяців тому

      1. Where the motor starts spinning is defined by the idle throttle on the outputs page. This should only be 5% no I believe. Certainly for fixed wing.
      2. Personally, I’m not a fan of software throttle limits. I prefer to use the right motor and prop setup. But, if you really want to go that route. Also on the outputs page is the option to scale the throttle. 1.00 is the default. This is 100%. If you wanted your max throttle at 80%, set this to 0.80.

    Hi Darren! congratulations on the video! I would like to answer some questions if possible. 1- You said to fly a little with Auto Level and then turn it off after getting the parameters. But can I always leave it on together with Angle or Horizon and only turn it off when switching to a mode that doesn't use Auto Level?
    2- Auto Level saves the parameters automatically on each flight or should I save them at the end of each flight? Thank you very much in advance!

    • @MrD
      @MrD  8 місяців тому

      1. It’s not great to do that IMHO. It’s better to just use it when you feel like the level needs updating.
      2 The autolevel does not trigger a save. If you see ** SETTINGS SAVED ** in the OSD, they have been saved. If not, you will need to save them via stick commands or through save and reboot in the OSD menu.

    Hi Darren, is it true that continuous autotrim of the servo could damage the fc eprom? because it records and rewrites permanently. I congratulate you for your videos!

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Рік тому +2

      No, not at all. It doesn’t do anything different to any other save. It just saves every time you disarm. EEPROM is good for around 100,000 writes. That would take 192 years to get to, if you had 10 flights a week. I think the EEPROM’s ability to write will outlast the flight controllers in most cases.

    Could there be a simple adjustment that I'm overlooking? Thank you

    • @MrD
      @MrD  10 місяців тому

      That sounds strange. It would be worth making sure there is no trim on the transmitter. Though I'd also expect this to show up in other modes. When in cruise, were you flying with a cross-wind? If so, that little angle could have been to maintain the correct heading.

    • @davidtaylor9508
      @davidtaylor9508 10 місяців тому +1

      Hello again Darren, I got some flight time in today and some testing. With the board double checked at 0* wings level the plane transitions into a 3-4* left bank roll switching from angle into cruise. I tried adjusting 3* either left or right which only changed the displayed numbers but still had an induced left roll switching into cruise. Hi Darren, great video!
    I have a question. Can I controll a servo by the home arrow in Inav? It would be a great option to build a long range UAV with an antenna tracker with a patch antenna on the plane. What do you think?
    Thx

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Рік тому

      People often come up with this idea. But it’s really not good or practical. A patch antenna on the plane would cause a lot of drag. Also, it wouldn’t address tilt. The best option is a decent quality, mild, CP antenna on the plane, around 3dBi. Then have the patch on a tracker on the ground. You can easily fit a more substantial, higher gain antenna on the ground. Plus, you would have a much lower chance of being out of beam or hitting a null; compared to having patches at both ends.

    • @threedeeandbeyond
      @threedeeandbeyond Рік тому

      Thank you for the quick response, Darren.
      I 3d print my UAV's. I could design a dome for the patch. When you take a 180 degrees patch you wouldn't have the issue with tilt.?
      I would love to test that :).

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Рік тому

      A 180 degree patch wouldn’t have much of a gain advantage over an omni. Even with the dome, you would still get additional drag.

    Darren (or anyone that might be able to help), I have a question about Auto Level. I have followed your procedure for this tuning mode, on 2 crafts now. It feels like it is making corrections to the AOA but where can I see the results of this tune? I thought that it would adjust the Fixed Wing Level Trim, Level Trim [deg] (in the Mechanics tab) but on both models this field is still 0. Am I looking in the correct location for this or is there another way/place to see the results of the Auto Level tune? I just thought it odd that 2 boards are both still showing 0 adjustment after having ran the procedure.

    • @MrD

The strange thing is that I saw it actually correct the pitch trim in flight on both models during the Auto Level process. Once I got home and checked, both models are showing changes from Servo Trim and Auto Tune but 0 degrees for fw_level_pitch_trim. Thanks Darren for all the hard work on inav, so I've been combining auto level with horizon on same switch but if I understand correctly I now will fly in horizon, land and save using stick commands? • @MrD
      @MrD  Рік тому

      No, you don’t need althold with Cruise. To be honest, althold isn’t needed with any mode on fixed wing now.
      As the comments above. I would have auto level separately on my tuning switch. Then I can enable is as needed in Angle or CRSH. It also works in Horizon, but I don’t use that mode. It can be disabled in flight. That has no effect on saving when it’s disabled, the value is remembered until you unplug the battery. When you land, saving depends on what you have set up. If it saves automatically (continuous servo trim or stats enabled), there is no to save with sticks. If not, you will need to save with sticks or through the OSD menu. 6.0 will display a message when the settings are saved.
      If you’re still on INAV 5. I would highly recommend updating to 6.1, which is released today. INAV 6 has huge improvements in the flight dynamics. Plus helpful things like the saved message.

      You would need to set that up in the mixer. External lights would need a PWM switch to power them. Such as the MenaceRC switch.
      Or you could use WS2812 LEDs, which can be hooked up to the LED pad for signal.
