Amen. My homebrew iron hands treat bionics like it's a reminder that they must improve. This began after culling most of their ranks during the Moirae Schism. They treat their Emperor-crafted flesh to not be wasted. Rejecting that the flesh is weak, only not calling it heresy because Tech Priests exist. They'd probably be loved by Ferrus but they despise him because they never knew him.
Something interesting about the blood swords is that their chapter master is a dreadnought. Usually you’d step down after being interred but Daggan was like “nah fuck that imma stay in charge” and lead his chapter until his death during the devastation of Baal Also do death eagles plz 🥺
It would've been really cool to have the Star Dragons show up with the Swords of Blood to the Devestation of Baal. Bring home that brotherly connection by having the Star Dragons be a notable exception to all the Blood Angels successors there, but down to clown with their brothers in arms.
@@Pykerie well I have a lot of practice to make the Star phantom emblem for my marines. I was thinking of going got the ink jet route since I’m nothing special yet in the painting deparment
When GRR Martin casually refers to some king or island or castle, even if he never mentions them again, you know he has an entire folder on them somewhere. I feel GW at times just spits out names and titles and planets without any idea of how it all might shake out down the road, out of desperation. The flipside to a single creator is the interminable wait between books, whereas GW has a mini-gun constantly firing out books and lore at an astonishing, horrifying rate. Anyway, thanks for the stuff, Bonesy.
dyou reckon a blood sword falling to the black rage could be brought out of it, atleast the early signs of it, by his star dragon brother calming him down thatd be so sweet
would be cool to see a video covering the Lamenters, don't know if there is enough lore for them to warrant an entire video though, but it'd still be cool
Dude, ya forgot to mention something about the Blood Swords: for a while they had a dreadnaught for a chapter master. Somehow Chapter Master Daggan retained enough of his logic and senses to not only command a squad but the whole damn chapter. So he kept the job. And if his actions are anything to go by, I can see why the Star Dragons get along so well with the Blood Swords. Because Daggan broke up a fight between Mephiston and Gabriel Seth by placing his giant ass between the two. Let that sink in: Two of the most blood thirsty melee monsters descended from Sanguinius stopped trying to kill each other because of this guy.
It is really funny how in becoming one of the most noteworthy Iron Hands successors the Star Dragons paradoxically also became so unlike them a lot of people can't even tell that they are successors.
I feel like another example of Successor Chapters being really good allies would be the Emperor's Spears and the Celestial Lions, for the similar reason that they were assigned to guard the same sector
Was really hoping for the red talons to get something as they’re the most notable iron hands successor and are notably different in personality from their parent
pssst, if you want more some really good space marine bromance, check out the short story “The Burden of Angels”. it’s about tu’shan of the salamanders and dante having a little powwow together that shows how deep the bond between the two chapters goes (aka my reason i SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TAKE BAAL PREDATORS WITH MY SALLIES, JAMES WORKSHOP CMON)
Kinda thing from a “theoretically legal case set in the Imperium of Man” that the chapters that kept the legion names in the second founding could be argued to be second founding chapters-they just kept the homeworlds and heraldry while the various surviving grand battle companies/chapters got spun off into codex chapters except for the wolves and Templars who were too cool for school and got out on a technicality (that’s why black Templars as a chapter can have well over 1000 space marines, since they are always on a crusade and it’s not classified as penitent, their numbers and recruitment don’t have an limitations)
Its weird that the Iron Hands get treated like they're boring Marines...when they are some of the more interesting looks into Transhumanism in the cybernetics front of Space Marines, instead of the weird side with the Mechanicus...or the weird chaos possession of the Dark Mechanicum. And seeing a chapter do something that looks almost in the angle of the Necrons, of having glowing circuitry just below the surface? That just sounds cool! It just comes down to the one problem: if they had a named character, how do you paint that? Also, congrats on now 104k!
Damn this makes me want to think more about going down a “split chapter” concept for my custom chapter. Maybe have it so there are technically two chapters, but each have 5 companies each or one has 7 and the other has 3 or something. I like the idea of having some kind of “shadow chapter” that goes around with the “main chapter” or something. Still need to figure it out more
If you're looking for one way to do Star Dragons circuitry skin, one interesting example is the Android race in Pathfinder and Starfinder. It has this look of a neon tattoo along the face. Give it a google you might like what you see. Might be possible to paint with a fine brush and a keen eye.
The Iron Hands are one of those Chapters that I think would greatly benefit from dropping the facade that they're not just an extension of the Adeptus Mechanicus at this point, and incorporating them into their hierarchy. It would allow them to identify with various Forge Worlds, and cultural beliefs about the Emperor as the Omnissiah, as well as the use of technology, and how to utilize it in ones own body. You could get a Chapter who cooperated with Belisarius Cawl as his test dummies because they believed bio-augmentations are the best. You could get a Chapter who's all about robots. You could get a Chapter who utilizes stealth fields. Tie some of them to Knight Houses or Titan Legions, have them specialize in warfare alongside them. Just, give each successor Chapter an archeotech gimmick even if you don't want them directly tied to the Admech.
I'm doing a homebrew White Scars successor chapter that specializes in stealth hit and run attacks and guerilla tactics. Crimson and turquoise color scheme, but a white stripe on the helmets. Still working on a name.
The Iron Hand currently is underused so much, that I legit thought they had been labeled as renegade and had their entire chapter purged by some unknown xenos/ inquisitor.
Getting better every video! I love weird chapters. Could you do one on your opinion of the Mentors chapter. I think they are supposed to be representative of the US CIA.
Considering the Blood Swords took part in the Devastation of Baal, and their close cooperation and bonds to the Star Dragons, does that mean Dante had to scratch his head in confusion why a bunch of Ferrus Manus' sons answered his call for aid? I mean, imagine the meeting in the Strategium, where everyone in the room (bar one, the Blood Swords rep) turns to look at the blue-armored guy with glowing constellations on his face, wondering who this guy is. Because that would be hilarious. Unlikely, given they probably never appeared in the Devastation of Baal at all, but still a fun thought.
I have a homebrew successor chapter to the Iron Hands. I keep swapping around on the name, Manticores, Ebon Hand, Ebon Golems. Think the last one is gonna be the one to stick.
IRON HANDS SUCCESSORS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! WE LOVE THE ROBOT FOLKS!! BLOOD SWORDS ARE COOL TOO I GUESS BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IRON HANDS!!! 1:10 Also Brazen Claws mentioned. I don’t care that they were only mentioned for being not much more interesting than regular Iron Hands, just that they were mentioned. Love the Brazen Claws.
The minis were cool hats off to the painter. They seem so joined at the hip that it seems they could overtime accidently mix up their gean seed idk if that would cause them to make a chimeric seed or not but it could happen
tbh now im really tempted to make an army of those two when this year of uni ends + maybe even try to invent some names for them and shit + the blood swords dont have anything like the sanguinary guard dont they? cause i got a box of those as a gift and want to paint them but dont have a dante to pair them with xd
After hearing about the Star Dragons. I think a special video after 2nd Founding, should be done. But the topic is special foundings. Eg Astartes Praeses and other special marine groupings for specific reasons
Are those ritual scar circuits the same as electoos? Because some AdMech units (Electropriests?) have those. So you could look at them for inspiration when painting the Star Dragons.
Best buds you say? Celestial Lions and the Black Templar? Celestial Lions and Emperors Spears? I dunno. The Flesh Tearers got on pretty well with the Knights of Blood....all things considered.
The only reason the Star Dragons are thought to maybe be Iron Hands successors is because of the electroluminescent implants/tattoos. Given their demonstrated behavior, I think it's more likely they're Salamanders successors.
Hey i heard that War Lions who are declared renegades are pretty buddy buddy with Hounds of Kerberos who are loyalists. Make a video about them wont cha? Btw: Khran video when?
My homebrew chapter is from the Iron Hands lineage strictly because I know there is not enough lore for anyone to care about them.
My homebrew is a chimera between iron hands, salamanders and ravenguard, because those three cultures mixed make for interesting characters
Mine is a combo of the iron hand and iron warrior they have all of their worst traits
Which is sad because their story is so tragic and could be used to explore the stages of grief. Especially when they get hung up on anger.

Wow those minis are so well painted

I wish I was half as good as her when it came to painting.
aww thank you so much!! practice makes perfect, just gotta keep painting and reflecting

It's a bit like the friendship between the Iron Hands and the Emperor's Children before it all went horribly wrong.
Maybe it’s the universe trying to make up for lost time?
maybe its history repeating itself?
Uhoh
I think it's some kind of callback to the relationship between the iron hands and the emperor's children.
Damn, I have mini envy now, kudos on the work.
