- Once again we get a much needed look into the past, as Keith explains his story as a bystander. It really bridged some gaps for us, and now we at least know a little bit more about the Jaeger family.

It's a powerful feeling thinking we are chosen for something greater than ourselves... so imagine the void that's left when the illusion breaks
couldn't say it better. purpose gives value to life and thinking we play a major role in it reaffirms that. It's really interesting how this behaviour remains in time, in history. we're just not special in essence but our own erratic thinking keeps the circle. Aot in that aspect is really captivating.
I like the empathy and sympathy they have for Keith.

Everytime I watch this episode I'm like "Life do be like that sometimes" and Carla makes me tear up everytime
Kat I'm so glad you mencioned Snape. Not of course by that weird romantization that you said but by the other parallelisms between him and Keith. Beyond the fact that they both loved the mothers of the protagonists and cared about the safety of those boys (That's why Keith sabotaged Eren's device so that he could have a simpler and less dangerous life as a civilian) both characters are introduced as those kind of tough scary and cold hearted guys, and then when we finally learn their stories, their pasts, their motives, their dreams and their pain, you can only empathize and love them. When you find this kind of development in "secondary characters" whose impact on the main plot is almost undetectable but so well written and staged you know you're not watching a just regular randmom show, you're watching a masterpiece.
I never thought of Keith sabotaging Eren’s device as him trying to steer Eren away from a dangerous life, that’s fascinating. I interpreted it as Keith wanting to check if Eren is a "special person" who could overcome that handicap

@@soufian2733 Well, now that you mention it, it could be a bit of both. Maybe Keith initially wanted to protect him (like when he followed Eren and his father into the forest despite Grisha telling him "I beg you, stay out of it" and then led Eren back to the shelter) but when he sees how determined Eren is to achieve balance even with the damaged device, he may have thought "Wow, he really is one of the chosen ones". Luckily this is one of those moments that do not have a single clear answer and each one can choose what to believe without being right or wrong.

This is such an underrated episode!
This is one of my favourite episodes: the glimpse in Grisha's past, the speech of eren's mom that puts his heart at peace in the present, the story of Keith just being a mere bystander, being unable to do anything at all in a world where only the "chosen ones" achieve something (relatable). It's an episode full of melancholy. It might seem like a filler for someone but it is actually really important in the big picture
This episode aged so well, especially for what Keith said: "he's already special because he was born into this world".
Carla was the one who said that.
Keith is underrated imho. This is a very memorable episode. That's just how life is, but Carla's words remind us that it's perfectly okay.

Dont forget that the line from Carla "he's special for no other reason than because he was born into this world", is amazing also due to the fact that its that line that helps Eren break out of the Titan's slumber during the boulder part... when Armin asked him why he did the things he did, why try to see the greater world beyond the walls, and Eren answers with "because.... I was born into this world".
I came to love this episode very much. A lot of us are just bystanders in life. We just have to remember that we're already special because we were born into this world.
I forgot Floch was introduced in this episode. This is one of those that feel like filler but are really important in retrospect.

seemed to be a filler character.
First time watching, I thought it was weird we were suddenly getting an episode dedicated to Shadis. I mean, I guess that's kind of lampshaded by him telling his story is useless to humanity. But it is important in retrospect.

Until now, until the last episode last sunday, this episode, Bystander, still is my favorite episode from the show. It ties so much stuff togheter, showing that Keith, before being the cadets comandant, was the Survey Corps Commander before Erwin, and the one in episode 1, shows his connection to Grisha and Carla, some stuff from the first few episodes are finally awnsered, but specially, the message at the end of the episode, that there is no problem in not being special, and that everyone is special on their own, gosh I love this episode so much. Fuck the action packed episodes, fuck the high rates that the episodes in Season 3 part 2 have, Bystander is my favorite episode and I even doubt that there will be an episode yet to come that will change it
This ep reminded me of the fault in our stars novel, the panic the guy ( sorry i never seemed to remember the names) had near the end of his life about being this forgettable tiny human who didn't leave shit to prove he existed once , but the girl who loved him ,who is also dying , she told him that it was more then enough for her to be special to one person , and that was such an eye opener to me at the age i saw that book , no matter what you do in life considering how long and complex humanity's history was ,is and will be ,nobody's gonna be "special" fir ever you will be forgotten eventually, so why seek that anyway , but then whether it's the quest to seek eternal glory or eternal love , one doesn't have to be more " right" then the other ,could be just two form of seeking self validation or actualization, to resist the idea of death being the "delete" button of our existence , yeah i am spiraling and i don't even know what i am trying to say so see ya 👋

as someone who has an inferiority complex. This line hit me so much; it makes me cry like a baby even after rewatching it so many times. This line always reassures me that my feelings are valid and that it's ok if you're not special; you're already a special cause you're born into this world

When people turn into shifter titan, they lost short term memories, not all of their memories they ever had. Eren only forgot he met his father that night, but he remembered everything before that.
And Eren's father find him inside Wall Rose (where he took refuge), not Wall Maria. If they still in Wall Maria, I highly doubt any of they would get some sleep since there's titan everywhere. So, that's mean, when the titan attack, his father was no where near Shigansina at all.

no se si leyeron o prestaron atencion a la parte donde dice que sobre eren :haras arder tu vida fuera de las murallas hasta que solo queden cenizas ,increible episodio ,un episodio donde habla de lo que presencio un simple espectador que es algo muy grande ,tambien se hace referencia a que si tiene que ser alguien especial ,eren despues de enterarse sobre los poderes y como los obtuvo de parte de su padre exterminando a la familia de historia le impacto porque sabe que no lo puede usar ,ademas de la gente de sangre real si lo puede usar. lo que mas quiere es ayudar a su gente y tomar la responsabilidad de ser la esperanza de la humanidad pero al enterarse eso penso en toda la gente que murio para protegerlo y se podria tomar como que murieron sin ningun resultado a favor de la humanidad ,eren obviamente se frustra por todo lo antes dicho y se comienza a cuestionar pero aun sabiendo todo eso ,no deja de seguir avanzando y cumpliendo sus responsabilidades ,un ejemplo es cuando se van a enfrentar al padre de historia ,observa a su alrededor que necesita algo mas para proteger a todos y sabe que sigue creciendo sus amigos, que seria historia ,en ese momento se empieza a cuestionar y a golpearse que significaria que tiene que seguir creciendo y solo se quiere descargar para despertarse ,al rato con su determinacion sabe que sigue siendo la esperanza y que tiene que seguir avanzando para proteger a todos ,este ep es bueno para el porque le hablan sobre su madre ,que es una de las cosas que mas ama diciendo que el ya es especial por haber nacido en este mundo ,esto va a impactar a eren

Shadis has the best character arc in the series
About Historia and Eren, not gonna deny or confirm anything because everything it's gonna be explained later but remember that Historia has real blood and as you have seen in past episodes by touch all those memories got triggered, so it's has a lot of sense that they tried to see if they could see other things by holding hands, etc. And of course, Jean was teasing Eren, by now we know they love to make fun of one another
Jean also had a crush on Mikasa. He's obviously just joking around but it would make sense to me that he subtly implies Eren is "unavailable" in front of Mikasa.

The Ackerman line proves that normal Titans can be turned back to ppl especially as they can die of old age like Kenny's grandfather. The problem was that too many ppl had access to the titan powers even as diluted as it was which resulted in the Titans Wars. It's likely that the it wasn't Titans vs humanity but more of Titans vs Titans for control of the Founding Titans' powers but with a lot of collateral damage as they had already conquered most of the land around them. So there had to be multiple royals that's on different sides trying to take the Founding Titan's powers. Dr Jaeger's first appearance outside the wall was just after he became the Attack Titan. Also what else did Eren learn from holding hands with Historia too much that the others think Eren&Historia spent too much time together,

re Eren and historia - yes, Sonny, I personally see some chemistry between the two. I'm saying this not as an Erehisu shipper by any means. I care only about three ships in this series, and one of them is that between Sasha and food. Don't stand in the way of Sasha and food.
