Love your snapshot lessons! It's taken me probably a year to get my soldering spot on and whilst I occasionally still have demons that interfere I can usually grab it back and sort it out. Like today. Soldering a bezel on a really thick chunky ring. Precariously balanced the swine moved. Whilst still having the heat on it managed to move it back with zero drama. Copper pipes help protect vulnerable prongs too. It all depends on the day and I'm glad you're honest about how tricky it can be sometimes.

Thank you so much Cat. I can soooo completely relate. The fae are fickle, so that's where the drink and cuss have to come in sometimes 😂. Then, deep breath and start again! 🤣 That copper pipe trick sounds interesting... I've never heard of that before.

Great tutorial as always. You mentioned melting down silver using 50% scrap and 50% new.... So for the 50% new material can it still be clean cut off pieces like wire or sheet thats never been heat treated... I am going to be melting down my scraps (finally got a torch 😬😏) so I need all the help and tips I can get...lol
P.s. I am so much better pick soldering than I am placing solder then heating. Weird right?

Thank you so much JaNet! YAY! You are ready to go with the new torch. I bet you’re excited. Yes, it can be clean, new wire or sheet when creating an ingot. You just don’t want to melt and remelt too many times because of fire stain. I’m much better at pick soldering too. It’s the way I learned and have stuck with it because I can place the solder in the right place and not worry about it running all over the place. 🤣

Sometimes if you put a little flux on your pick it helps to pick up and release the solder.
