For someone who wants to begin stitching this is a great tutorial. Since I have a profound hearing loss, I really appreciated the good closed captioning. Thank you.
@@allisondavis4sg944 yes! Closed captioning done by UA-cam is usually terrible. It prints the words it hears phonetically, which is hilarious at times, but often tough to follow. This is excellent captioning with a minimum of talking. Many, many people rely on closed captioning. You’d be surprised. I also thank you for this video.
Learning to stitch is on my 'to do' list. I am glad that you are going to be on UA-cam. For those of us that live too far from the store to visit it will be nice to get to know you through your videos.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful Video; As a local resident, I have to double pleasure of enjoying the Brick and Mortar store as well as shopping on-line. Now I am able to enjoy your talents on U-Tube as well! I really appreciated your presentation skills... straight to the point and demonstration! Great Job! Congrats!
YAY!!! I don't know which I loved more, the fact your started a YT channel or your lovely face! SO FLIPPIN' EXCITED that you are doing videos. This just made my day! Many happy HUGS!
I LOVE You Tube videos - YAY!!! Also, I LOVE your craft room and would love a tour video! Also, you look beautiful and the video is way fancier than my first video would ever be!!
Thank you for the feedback! It's so helpful to know what people like, especially as I'm learning how to navigate all of this. I really, really appreciate it! I've got plans for a little bit of both, speaking videos and tutorials with text. It's good to know why people prefer one over the other.
Thank you for sharing and starting this Channel. I appreciate your presentation style... precise & detailed instructions! I too would like to see a video of your craft room!
I have loved hand stitching ever since you introduced it to me in 2009...but you shared some great tips here and now I am even happier with my own stitching results!! Keep teaching us! We're here and ready!! Thanks so much!
You HAND stitch all of your 12x12 pages? Lord girl, I knew I liked you but my respect for you just went up about 20 notches 😂. I just run that sucker through my sewing machine. (Although, I definitely want to start adding some hand stitching but I truly don't have the patience to do straight line stitching by hand.)
😂 I do! Does it make sound less crazy if I tell you that I actually really enjoy the process of stitching!? 😊 I don’t know what it is about it, but I could sit there for hours stitching my heart out. I do love the look of machine stitching too, but I always seems to go with hand stitching. 😊
You are welcome! Stitching is my absolute favorite thing to add to my pages and I enjoy it so much when I hear people say they want to learn how to do it too.
You did great for it being your first video - so glad to finally see you on UA-cam! This month I have been working through your Shape it Up Heart class...so I've been stitching my heart out lately (see what I did there? Lol!) I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you!
Hahaha! Perfectly stated!! I had so much fun making the layouts for that class so hearing that someone is working through it and creating the layouts just makes me create some more.
I've been wanting to start with stitching on my pages so this is perfect timing! Love it! Can't wait to see more- subscribed for when the next ones come!
What a great tutorial to whet your feet with on UA-cam! I’ve wanted to learn stitching for awhile, so this was perfect for me! Looking forward to more videos from you ☺️ (BTW, weight gain or not, you’re a lovely person) ☺️
Thank you!! You’ll have to let me know if you liked stitching after you try it. It seems people either love it or hate after they try it. There something about that is very therapeutic for me. I could do it all day!
Thank you! You could use twine, but the thickness of it might require different methods or tools and it might be a little tougher to pull through the paper. If you are using a thinner twine (like a baker’s twine) you will just have to use a larger needle. The biggest thing to watch out for is using too big of a needle. If it’s too big it will expand the holes in the paper too much and your stitching won’t look as nice. If you are using a thicker twine you might skip the needle altogether and use a hole punch for the holes. The only thing I worry about is if the twine will lay flat. Some of the twine I’ve used on projects tends to have a mind of its own!! I hope that helps!
This is great! But how do you stitch smaller items like I’ve seen you stitch letters or other shapes. I smushed the paper with the foam mat and it crinkles it up!
Thank you! I'm very gentle with the paper piercing, especially if it's a thinner paper. I also really just push the very tip of the piercing tool through the paper. It also helps to make sure that your piercing tool is really sharp and pointy. I had one that was really dull and it made it more difficult to pierce the holes which can result in paper wrinkling. I hope that helps some!
Pretty much any place that sells crafting supplies. I believe I got mine at Wal-mart many years ago. We also carry them at Scrapbook Generation - scrapbookgeneration.com/omnigrid-6x12-acrylic-ruler/
What are the best kinds of needles? I tried it with the Sew Easy needle (from a hundred years ago) and it is way too dull and left big holes. Some of my regular needles don't have a big enough eye. Thanks!
I prefer a size 7 embroidery needle. The eye is big enough that it is to easily thread, but not so big that it increases the holes as you stitch. If you don’t end up liking a size 7, it’s at least a good gauge for deciding if you need to increase the size or go smaller if you want. I hope that helps!!
They have become a lot harder to find because the companies that made them specifically for this type of piercing/stitching for scrapbooking don’t make them anymore. A lot of people recommend using a mouse pad and say the it works great. You can also use a cork board. A cork board was what I used in the very beginning and it works just as well as the foam. I only switched to foam because my cork boards were small and the foam mat was much larger. I hope that helps!
