- Last week, I asked the famous chicken and egg question .. which came first, I didn't get a scientific answer or any answer for that matter, but I concluded that a hen is only an egg's way of making another egg..On that note, we went out and met Steve, an agripreneur whom after a few failed attempts in chicken farming, got to master his trade and has specialised in rearing chicken for eggs(layers). His favorite subject to study is; "Egg-onomics".

The kuku structure is very neat
HAS THE LORD BEEN GOOD!!! yes HE HAS !!!HAS HE LOVED us DEFENDED us ?HE HAS DONE so much we cannot count !!! wow lovely !!!
If feed is 90% of input and its expensive, why dont you augment your feed by feeding Black Soldier Fly larvae? You can also grow hydroponic grain fodder. You'll get 7 day cycles of healthy fodder. and two week cycles of Black Soldier Fly larvae. Plenty of feed at very low cost.
👏
They also have side effects when fed so many times
@nalubowarehema1101 what kind of side effects Sir?
Bacterial infection
Great idea when not doing large commercial farming, the hydroponic fodder is expensive to setup as well so its neither here or there
I am only about 4 minutes into this video, first time seeing a video from this channel, and I love it. I can't believe the amount of information/insight that has been shared already.
What do you "love" about confining birds in prison?
My good friend you're a true inspiration to all Africans. Keep it up bro! Thanks for giving a listening ear to all those who are out there searching for knowledge in starting a poultry farm. God bless!
How do you know that a bird is inferior
Hats off Steve you understand your craft from simple beginnings ✋
I loved your theory for concerns over animal freedom...we need food guys, please chill...

God is Great,we feeding them and in return they providing us eggs.
Pongezi Steve, my son n I are poultry farmers. We are encouraged by u coz there somewhere we need to improve on the area of marking the non layers
Why can't the key stakeholders take up the issue with the pertinent authorities, beginning with parliamant, to enact regulation to mitigate on market issues? Mainly being curtailing on illegal imports. This is the most sure way of ensuring growth of the local poultry industry.
It's a challenge. The East Africa Community, COMESA, AGOA trade treaties plus just blatant disregard to the producers.
You did a good job my brother may good God bless you
I'm highly inspired, motivated and uplifted.
Very inspiring story. Launching my journey soon.
I like your explanation very few will tell you the problems they always tell us the advantages only.

He he!

Iam so inspired by your story Brother..I look forward to starting my own in Zambia...all goes well.
Thank you for the information and will wish to know:
1. Costing of constructing a 1500 house or cages.
2. Feeds costing.
3. Market

Love love your videos. I keep sharing them with youth groups. Keep it up
Well done 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿…. I hope they have build another Poultry farm for chicken 🐓 elsewhere…and others part of Africa… Africa must feeds it peoples….👍🏿
Africa is not lazy alone but to much jealousy from within
I also wanted to add that you have lots of checken manure, which is one of the inputs for Black Soldier Fly larvae production. They eat it and grow fat...and you have an abundant supply.
What do you do to produce black soldier fly
This is a nice idea, but ideally, the commercial feeds are enough ration for your commercial layers. You can produce the larvae for other backyard chicken or sell, but dont feed your birds, you might end up over conditioning them because they actually need a specific Crude Protein content & surpassing or feeding less has negative effects on production.
Then?
Am proud of this project
Why are you "proud" of putting birds in prisons?
The funds used to aquire food and water used to feed these animals can be instead for people. You can focus on Agriculture; indoor farming which is one this country's greatest strengths to produce enough food for everybody. It can save large amounts of water which is becoming more and more scarce
I'm in Mozambique I hope I'll get more advice from you soon thanks..
Kaunda
my advice if you re not doing it is to mix with crop farming you already have the manure
Wow I love story and come a long way
Congratulations
I have resolved to save and start with the 500 birds, I look forward to engage Steve and his team
How far are you my friend, I want to venture into this world this year!
All the best
Greeting from Somalia, OMG, Amazing, Good information high label transparency, Thank you so much for the knowledgeable story about your Poultry farming business! well done brother God bless you.
As much I love this kind of design, I feel it needs to be redesigned to have more space for the chicken to move around in those cages
chicken don't really need space for moving. the battery cage system is very good and makes use of space
I understand your point from a developed food secure West mode of business and ethics. However, in a developing country with food insecurity, it is by whatever means. The ends justify the means! ('For although the act condemns the doer, the end may justify him' - Niccolo Machiavelli).
If you buy him a cage with bigger space I am sure he will gladly receive it

I'm GOING TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH THE CAGE SYSTEMS MAKE SENCE I LIVE ON A FARM AND WHEN YOU HAVE A HELL OF A LOT OF BIRDS. CHICKENS NEEDED TO BE DEBEAKED, SO DONT TAKE EACH OTHER EYES AND BALLS OUT. OR WHAT ABOUT THAT ONE CHICKEN THAT IS TENUOUSLY BEING TO THE POINT THAT IT DIES. LET HER TAKE CARE OF 5,000 OR MORE BIRDS HERSELF AND COME BACK AND TELL US HOW IT IS, OK
Thank you so much this is helpful for me as am planning to start poultry farming

Good Job Steve. You have hacked the critical management practices and steps and for sure they are at your finger tips. Lots of learning there. I will reach out for more mentorships. Just a question. Why can't someone prepare their own feeds by just buying the raw materials? What are demerits of this approach?
