  • Groundbreaking celebrates beginning of work on $17.5 million AC Caplinger renovation projects
Upgrades in fields and facilities expected to be completed by Fall 2025
Members of the A.C. Caplinger family joined City of Edmond leaders and staff for a groundbreaking this morning, celebrating the next steps in the $17.5 million renovation project for the A.C. Caplinger Sports Complex at Hafer Park.
Work will begin for the update of the 45-year-old complex, which opened in 1979. Funded by the 2017 Capital Improvement Tax Fund, when complete the renovation will replace infrastructure, rearrange field layouts and add new sports lighting and amenities - including two restroom areas and synthetic turf infields. It also will feature 10 ball fields, 451 parking spaces, covered bleachers, a playground, covered dugouts, concessions, umpire facilities and picnic shelters.
Completion is targeted for Fall of 2025.
The project is the latest in investments in and around Hafer Park, including upgrades to restroom facilities, improvements to Pelican Bay Aquatic Center and work to establish and develop the 25-acre Charles D. Lamb nature preserve.
In the City of Edmond sports facility assessment completed in 2023 by Victus Advisors, the report noted at both A.C. Caplinger and Mitch Park that although “a substantial number of baseball and softball fields already exist in Edmond, there would be a significant opportunity for more and bigger tournaments with improved facility/field quality,” and would enhance the experience both for visiting teams and residents using the facilities.
