Sometimes I will rub my needle on my skull/ hair roots to give it a bit of oil which helps it glide better. When our daughter was allergic to disposable diapers, this helped with her diaper pins.
    I love to hand sew!❤

I would never have thought of that! I used cloth nappies for my 2 also. Everyone thought I was insane at the time. Mine had velcro though.

I love William Morris designs. The strawberry thief is my favourite. The first quilt i made was all done by hand, i was scared of doing it on the machine. It was a lovely windmill design made entirely from jumble sale fabric. Ive made many since then, on the machine so its worth having a go.

Thank you. Your comment means so much to me. I get a lot of grief for hand sewing, but I know I am not alone. There something beautiful in the slowness. Machine quilting is great - I've done a fair amount of machine quilting, but not everything has to be fast. I spend a lot of time in a hurry - it's nice to slow right down sometimes.

Absolutely. I really enjoy English paper piecing and embroidery. Do what you love. x

I am new to this channel. I am looking for hand sewing projects since I dont trust myself with a machine AND I couldn't remember how to even thread the machine even if I tried. I have have multiple strokes and can function if I have a project that I can do from the bed. Sometimes I can't remember what I did 5 minutes ago so don't feel bad about the remembering part. I just tell people that I have had a stroke and use that as my excuse for not remembering. (It might be that the age thing is coming into play, Im 63) I really enjoyed your video. You are a good teacher. ✌🏻♥️

Always loved the log cabin, but don’t usually do hand stitching when I do more than one or so.❤

I agree - if I were making a whole quilt like this, I'd definitely get my machine going, but I do love hand piecing - I can't resist sometimes.

Beautiful, clear instructions, thank you. I think I prefer the multi coloured block that shades as the strips spread towards the edge. Either way, your block will make a lovely quilt, cushion, table runner etc. ❤👍from Somerset

Thanks so much. I quite like the random approach too - I thought I should start with the most traditional version. I may well play next time.

You can clean sewing needles and pins by running them through fine emery/sand paper. A pincushion stuffed with crushed walnuts shells is the traditional way of keeping pins d needles clean and sharp.

I have a walnut shell pincushion o my desk - it's magic. They really work. I am about to release a kit to make one that you can wear on your wrist. More details soon. 🤗

I read that you can sharpen duller needles with an emory board. Just rub the board on each side of the needle.

Sweat and skin oil makes needles sticky. You can clean them by running them through baby powder, but just use a new one.

@dingtonia yummy! I'm sorry I asked now. Love the baby powder tip though. 😂

@sarahbillington2368 that's so lovely to hear. It really was easy - straight lines, minimal cutting - a great place to start. X
