    Congrats on 1,000 subscribers!
    I had a good mindset and I was a willing, and good student in Spanish class in school. I got an A but gained almost no usable Spanish skills. I was so disappointed! The
    class was just bad. My language partners from Colombia and Venezuela say in their countries, everybody takes English in school for years, and don't learn much of anything.

      Tell me about it! It really is sad and disappointing for those who actually want to learn! We need a combination of motivation AND effective teaching/learning methods to progress and it always seems like one or both are lacking in most traditional classrooms.
      And thanks for the congrats! Not quite there yet but getting close. Haha!

      Prepare Practice Present. I love those words! .... Also I was thinking, for those who have no one to practice with, and if their friends do not speak their target language, sometimes friends just still think it's cool to hear you speak a different language as part of the practice they could put a short video up on their social media for their friends to see their progress. Like once a month or once every two months or whatever they want. And they could announce first in their native language what they're going to say in the target language. That would be fun..... I love your videos. They are truly inspirational. And I look forward to them each week.

    Wow, You brought up this is in the perfect time. Would you believe I was on a daily roll for weeks upon weeks upon weeks, every single day for about an hour each day, then I don't know what happened.... It's like it only took a week of no practise... and Its like I lost almost all of it! I'm mixing up my words, even forgot some of them! A few months of daily practise gone in about one week! Not all of it but a considerable amount. That's not right! 😣

      Aww I'm sorry to hear that! It's happened to pretty much all of us but we can always try again. I hope you got some useful takeaways to stay consistent! ☺️

    I didn't answer the question properly lol I set monthly goals via a checklist and I cross off things from my list day by day.

    Question for you Érica. I’ve downloaded my book of bible stories in Spanish and printed a page of one of the stories to practice. Do you have any suggestions or tips to improve my comprehension. I listen to the audio all the time and understand most of it. Just looking for more tips.

      Hi there! If you haven't done so already, I would suggest downloading my guide here: ericaelsewhere.com/blueprint. It's a study method that I like using when I am learning a new text and it really aids my comprehension. You may want to use the same story of My Book of Bible Stories in English to compare if there are any parts that you are still unclear about with the Spanish. :)

    So true. Great video. I haven't been practising Mandarin a lot lately, but I have reached a level where, I don't need to practise daily to progress. I think that is important. I think we should try and reach a level where we can learn more by consuming more content.

    • @EricaRayLanguage
      @EricaRayLanguage  4 роки тому

      Yes! And staying consistent in order to reach that wonderful level where we simply learn more by consuming more content is the key! Thanks for watching!

    The one thing I find difficult about sharing progress on social media is that UA-cam is saturated with polyglots language switching. It gives people a seriously unrealistic expectation of what learning a language is like. So much so that I feel a bit embarrassed to show my own progress publicly on my channel.

    • @EricaRayLanguage
      @EricaRayLanguage  4 роки тому +4

      Yes, I totally know what you mean. But I think that's another reason that we need to show our real language processes as we actually go through them. Most of those channels just show the finished result (or what appears to be the finished result). So I believe that showing our realistic progression is important and will attract the right kind of person who is willing to put in the work to learn. Those who simply prefer to ooh and aah over someone speaking a lot of languages but aren't really willing to put in the time and effort to learn one likely aren't our type of audience anyway. :)
