hey guys, planning on a cycle tour through Netherlands this summer (well more like hoping), wanted to see if ppl are actually hosting on WS at the moment due to covid?
Wild camping in the Netherlands is strictly forbidden everywhere outside official camping grounds, and there are heavy fines if you are caught. I think you should mention that before other people will have the same ideas.
I cycle toured Holland 30yrs ago, perfect country , great people advanced thinkers, had perfect cycle lanes way ahead of us ,UK still can’t get it right...shows how behind the times we really are, I went back again a few years ago, perfect
That’s where my ancestors where from, I’m a felts , maybe I will get to visit the Netherlands one day and explore it . Glad y’all are back on your bikes and god bless
My wife is from Rozenburg and I was lucky enough to live there for a year. Recognised a lot of the coastline and cycling into Rotterdam was a regular treat. I do miss it.
Cycling the Netherlands was such a highlight for me and your videos are bringing me back. When we were touring we went down the coast to Dunkirk and took a ferry to the UK and it was only there that I realized how flat that part of Europe is! I had to get back into shape riding the hills of England and Wales 🙂
Nice video. What a beautiful country. Ticks are no joke. Had Lymes disease two years ago. No fun at all. We have a foot of snow here in Vermont. Waiting for spring to get the bike out. Take care and stay safe, Al
What a treat to tour in a country that is so bicycle friendly with dedicated bicycle paths. I've ridden both the east and west coasts of the U.S. and Canada, but watching your back trail constantly for fast cars and trucks approaching is very stressful and takes some of the fun out of bike touring. I was surprised to hear that ticks in the Netherlands can carry Lyme disease which is a real problem here too.
I enjoy all your videos and have cycled from Spain to Holland and love Holland so much I like to have a week in Holland every year cycling but couldn’t last year. I cycled around Holland a few years ago on a one gear foldable bike visiting all the main cities including Arnhem where my father parachuted in an was captured during the war. Looking forward to all your videos and have watched them all at least once Keep up the great work Holland is cycling heaven compared to the UK Love it

I had been thinkng about you the other day and today your video popped up. It sure is a far cry from the mountain and jungle roads of your big trip! I used to enjoy biking in Holland, flat country and lots of bike lanes, although the wind can sometimes be VERY strong. Never knew there were so many ticks! I suppose the trip was during the summer, as people were actually swimming! Stay safe and hope you´ll make it to Spain!
Hola Karina! Yes it was in summer... we had some snowy days last month so hopefully the ticks will be less coming summer. We hope to visit Spain soon!!
Hi guys! It's really amazing to see both of you again! Thanks for marking this video. I really waiting for your adventures! Good luck 🤞and sending love for both of you ❤🤗
The ticks here in New Jersey are unbelievable. As you mentioned, it is easy to pickup a half dozen ticks by just walking through a grassy area. Ticks are spread by many animals, not just deer.
I do like the tour and you're enjoying our country. What I don't like it that you are showing wild camping like it's a normal thing. For other people, wild camping here is illegal and a big fine. There's so many camp grounds that are also with less ticks. But be welcome here in The Netherlands and enjoy our thousands of kilometres of bike paths!
Hey there. So great to see you guys on your bikes again. Watching Maudi push her bike through the forests reminded me of the epic ride in Tajikistan. I'm out in Thailand so don't have to worry about ticks. Snakes are the bigger problem. I ran over a meter long snake one time! Love the video and the quality is insane. JP The old guy (aka myfriendjonny1)
Hi Mark, if you stay on camping you won't have any problems! Try to avoid area's with "wild" animals and with long grass type of vegetation... Come to Holland, it's great :-)
White or light colored, and tight weaved clothes. Pants preferably and tucked in socks. Use your bicycle mirror to check back and butt, and a fine comb for the hair. If in an infested area, avoid brushing up against bushes and branches, and tall grass.
I read that wild camping is prohibited in the Netherlands and that it is strictly enforced. Is it easy to find camping spots where you can avoid being caught? Although, I must say, the large amount of ticks does make wild camping a bit unappealing, even though it is one of my favourite things to do.
Hi Niklas, yet it's forbidden but I won't say strictly enforced. It's doable but in summer there are many people doing sports / walking their dog etc. If caught, people will say something about it, and you'll potentially get a fine. Making a campfire is forbidden as well and that would be a bigger problem. Ticks mostly reside in area's with long grassy type of vegetation in larger natural area's with (semi)wild animals.
Don't go wild camping in the Netherlands. We have very little nature and it's fragile. We don't need a bunch of tourists camping in the woods. There are thousands of dedicated camping grounds and they are cheap ..please use those to camp. They also barely have any ticks.
@@koen4530 when I went on cycling holiday towards Belgium with a friends we paid 10-15€pp per night with a shared tent. That's not much esp since it includes showers and water. Or we asked a farmer permissions to stay in his field for free, permission being the key word here. Since your name is Koen I'm assuming your Dutch. Let's be honest, our national parks and forest are so small and fragmented. No way we should allow wild camping here.
Ha, I recognize a lot of places! Can’t believe you hadn’t seen the harbour of Rotterdam yet! They actually improved the cycling route along the coast, it is called the LF Kustroute now. Beautiful video, great how you can capture tranquility.

From all the living beings (animals, insects, humans) I've encountered during the last few years on the road, i would say ticks are the most dangerous one. You don't feel them on the skin and the tiny size makes them hard to spot. I always tried to avoid areas with ticks. Sometimes it was not possible.

I wonder, is it possible to freely buy antibiotics like doxycycline against Lyme desease in a pharmacy in the Netherlands or it is necessary to get a doctor's prescribtion?
@@Brozius2512 Too bad. Generally, it's not a good idea to take antibiotics without consultation with a doctor, but with Lyme it's important to start as soon as possible. Making appointment with a doctor, making tests, having another appointment with a doctor to study test results can take a while. Which is very difficult during the tour. In Ukraine, they sell them freely, so I'll be prepared.

yes you need a doctors prescription for that.
Hi Ross, as Brozius said only on prescription.
That looks sooo amazing!
Are you actually allowed to walk off paths? Would be fantastic to just explore nature !!!!!
Thanks! There are some places where that is allowed, not everywhere though... Nature is such a great place to wander :)
@@WheelstoWander Wonderful !! Would love to go off track there, too!!! ✨
Depends on whether there is a fence or not. If there is, the answer is no.
And wild camping is banned in the dunes 😉
Nice one
Hola , si algún dia pasan por Colombia , aquí tienen un amigo, saludos

Thank you! 😊
Do you have a suggestion for a facebook group for bicycle travelers climbing north from central america to Canada....? Thanks
Hi Mathieu, we don't know of a Facebook group so specific.
you guys visit my hometown Noordwijk,
We did 😲 Great place you live, along the coast!!
Ticks are a lot like highwaymen: they lie in wait and then spring into action. I can't wait to do the Netherlands - minus the ticks.
😉 You are very welcome! Hopefully you won't encounter any tick!!
