Jay - I am an American (sports broadcasts) producer and, full disclosure, I am friends with Marlisa Punzalan's parents (and Marlisa's singing coach) and asked Marlisa to come to the US to perform at a Super Bowl event in San Francisco (with, among others, Snoop Dogg)… I don't know Reigan Derry at all (I do know Marlisa, now, fairly well) and I am of the opinion that the best performance by anyone during this 2014 XFactor Australia contest was Reigan's Week 4 performance (Marlisa's "Titanium" was a close second)… While I cannot "get into the minds" of everyone who voted throughout this competition, I can tell you that, as a fellow producer myself, that Marlisa had one additional (subtle) "edge" over Reigan and Dean. Marlisa simply is a very LIKABLE young lady... Now, I'm not saying Reigan Derry is not (likable), nor Dean Ray... But if we polled 1,000 people and showed clips of these three - with no singing, just excerpts of their personalities - I feel fairly confident that a plurality would think Marlisa was (is) the most "likable"... When we are looking for on air talent (to broadcast a game), we are dealing with already proven, capable talent... What will separate them will be one more "ingredient"... Will people "like the person"?... I honestly believe more Australians were "rooting" for Marlisa (than Reigan or Dean)… And, in truth, if you had the chance to meet Marlisa Punzalan in person, you would come away from that meeting being similarly impressed... She was (and is) everything everyone sensed during this XFactor contest... Humble, shy and respectful.

yes totally agree, Reigan should of won but it seems that to me that Politics took over in this show and Danni Minogue helped Ronan win with Marlisa because Ronan helped Danni win in 2013.
Marlisa Voice did not even come close to Reigan and now both of them even though eventually signed to Sony Music both of them are delisted FSR which is very sad.
Its very hard in the OZ music Industry, so many great artists just dont get their break and we are suffering.

I don't understand how she didn't win... seriously..
She reminds me a lot of Haley Reinhart who in my opinion is the best American Idol ever, yet she only finished third. Anyway, I hope she makes it in the industry. It's a very tough industry.
Easy, they got a Philippine girl who scream out loud, and Dannii Minogue humiliate her in one show, I stop seen this show because of her! She posted on instagram back the year, she is so humble that, she only dow her head and Dannii attacks! Pathetic!! She is my winner.
Did you really want her to win? She’s a professional and the show is about discovering new talent. If the show only rewards and promotes pros, what’s in it for the average joe? Regan got what she wanted which was exposure.

I know 4 years old but!!!! If they allowed her to stay true to herself and her music she had a cracking chance of winning, but weirdo space floating shows, choreography etc to play to a tv audience reallly did her in.

Her Wikipedia says she was dropped by Sony on March 2016. So she may have to move to the USA to have a career.
Maybe one of her few weaknesses that got her dropped was because she uses her voice the same way in most of her songs. She's great but I found myself getting bored toward the end of this video.
Thanks for putting this clip together, such a great talent and beautiful as well. I've read a few of the comments which reckoned she should of won. I'm not sure how these shows work but a manager would be asking for cut of the profits as I'm sure these shows make a ton of money and these shows would be nothing without the contestants. Just a thought, hope they are paid in some way for sharing their talent which keeps these shows going year after year.

Years after and I still get frustrated with these shows knowing something isn’t quite right with the way obvious winners are somehow eliminated for lesser talent to get through.

Whilst I have continued to watch xfactor over the years it has only been to see the exceptional acts that appear out of the blue however have never had faith in the process that the best will win since this amazing talent did not win the 2014 series. Still to this day feel cheated as a viewer. Can’t imagine how she must have felt. Hands down the best talent this show ever saw & ultimately failed to deliver.
I have until just now, never heard of her.... AND I AM SPEECHLESS! WHAT AN AWESOME WOMAN, SINGER AND BOMBASTIC ENTERTAINER! It's amazing what she has delivered at the LifeShows 🤩

It came to deadlocke, and that meant counting all votes. Marlisa had more votes in total than Reigan. This was back in 2014, and people still think Reigan is more deserving to win. I agree that Reigan is talented, but Marlisa is too. We should just be happy for Marlisa. The fact that she won the X Factor, means that she deserves it too, so does Ronan. At least show some support.
That silly 3 piece group did not deserved to go to the Final. What a loss
I think she is an amazing singing the only complaint I have is more so on the show and their need for the theatrics. She does not need all that make up, stage performers, and objects. My favorite songs was when it was just her and you can actually get to know her from her singing like the judges said in her audition. Then they just hide her such a shame, but I still wish she won.

It's 2022 and I'm still heartbroken on her not winning this season. She showed versatility throughout the show but one of the Judges, Kylie minogue's sister made unnecessary criticisms during the latter part of her X-factor journey. She was the most deserving to win, not Marlisa.
Reigan not winning was one of the biggest robberies in Australian reality TV history. She was everything the music industry needed; incredible voice, pretty, marketable and humble. Her performances are so incredibly moving. Dannii felt threatened by Reigan and voted against her in each live decider, ultimately enough to cost her the win. Funnily enough out of all those in the Top 5 from this series, Caitlyn Shadbolt has actually gone on to have the most successful career. She's released 4 albums and currently writing a fifth, another underated singer. I hope we hear more from Regian, she is too talented to not hear more from. I still to this day feel so annoyed that Reigan didn't win.

redfoo was a really bad mentor. every year he was on show he messed up all his acts. if Ronan was her mentor, she would have done better. also, danii did her dirty so her band of brothers got through. finals should have been reigan, marlisa, and dean. the brothers were okay but no where near as good as those 3. I also heard she was getting contract and they didn't want to be tied to the winners contract.

I am a Dead Head, love Eric Clapton and CSNY, all this stage crap is why I think she did not make it to the end. Show said she did not like all the fluff when she was in Scarlet Girls, why did she let them put her back there, she should have held her ground on how she wanted to present herself.
Best of the best for Australian X factor ever. Only Dami Im can compare but still behind Reigan. Unique!!!
