Testing IR value of cable/wiring with megger:
Test voltage = 1000V DC
This megger range = 0 to
999 Mohms.
Display "OL" means IR value is more than meter range of 999 Mohms.
Display "0" means circuit is shorted or insulation failed.
Important tip:
Ohmmeter is used for testing resistance of conductor in ohms. It injects 3 to 9 volts only, whereas megger is used for testing resistance of insulation by injecting twice rated voltage.
For single phase = 500 V DC, and for three phase = 1000 V DC.
Normal IR value for domestic wiring is 25 to 100 Mohms. Depends upon ambient temperature, humidity, age of wiring.
1 Mohm = 1000000 ohms
Precautions
Circuit to be tested to be completely deenergized including neutral.
All back-up supplies also to be isolated.
All capacitors, switchless indicators to be isolated.
All devices like AC, pump, fridge etc to be unplugged.
Some reputed Indian brand meggers are Meco, Waco, CIE, Rishabh, Fluke.
Electricity is coducted thru conductors.
Conductors are protected by insulators.
So conductors and insulators should be in good condition for proper working.
Insulation failure is the major cause of fire accidents.
So condition of insulation should be tested whenever required.
After reconditioning, motors and transformers must be meggered before energizing.

Meggering is must to know the condition of insulation, before energizing new/repaired/reconditioned,
wiring/motor/transformer or any switch gear, busbar etc meggering is must because bad insulation is a silent killer.

can we do Meggering on the Control Panel, In my control panel we are using Power and control circuits,For Control circuits we are using 24V Dc ,In this DC circuit I feel short circuit because of some Technical issues,This DC volt we are using for Motor Drives and Servo Controllers and Sensors ,Can you Explain how to do Magggering on this DC circuits

Deenergize and isolate the circuit.
Inject 50V DC and check.
If there's problem, isolate and check branch circuits.
If display shows "0" the circuit is shorted. If it shows some value, then it's ok.
After finishing dicharge capacitance in the circuits by shorting.

15amps socket = 2.5 sq mm minimum
20 amps AC point = 2.5 sq mm minimum
Theory enna yenral, fault yerpadum podhu full supply earth wire vazhiyaga thadai illamal earth ku poga vendum.
So phase wire enna size use panukirigalo, same size earth wire use panuvathu best.

Why ir megger used cable short ckt and winding check
Meggering is used to check condition of insulation by injecting twice rated voltage between phases, phase & neutral, phase/neutral & body.
Examples:
Cables, wiring, motor, transformer etc.
No other meter can check condition of insulation.
The fault may not be short circuit only.
