- I invited Freddie Mac from the @HamRadioCrusader channel to make a video that would post to my channel. Here it is. Today Freddie gives you a little background about himself and shows us how to setup a new Allstar Node for your home. Let's take a look!

Terrific video. I learned about the other options besides the Shari (nothing wrong with it. )
I have a. Bunch of idle radios, including the beloved Alinco DR-135 (has data port) and Yaesu FTM-29xx that I could use. Plus a bunch of Moto stuff. You’re going to make this easier and less expensive than I thought!
I appreciate your service. Stay under a desk for the next month and stay safe. 73. Tom
I liked his story and giddy effervescense 🍻, so much...I subscribed to his channel too. So, I don't miss anything in this series! 👍👍 Law Man!
Hey Freddy, I have a similar story! You can always jump back in the pot, and then there is all new s#!+, at cheaper prices! I still love and use Echolink. I always wanted to try Allstar.
Congratulations on your successful law enforcement career brother! Great video!
Really appreciate you doing what you do on your Channel. I listened to the 8-hour Technician class A few times and took a couple of practice tests and got my technician certificate. I never cracked open one book. The online class was that good. I'm about to start on the general now that the new questions are up. Hope to hear you on the air when I drive through Dallas. I'm an over-the-road trucker, so this is definitely going to help keep me occupied while I'm doing my thing.

This where it's at man. That is for showing 😮
Welcome back, have a long and happy retirement. Looking forward to your videos. Semper Vigilo 💙
I wonder if Jason has been turned into a little dodecahedron sitting on the floor behind the captain’s chair?
Only if Picard was in the chair
Thats a BIG word... Like Aluminum or Mayonaise!
Its Hammer Time! ⚒️
i too got out of the hobby for 12 years and got back into it in 2009. i am on d star and yaesu system fusion with a hotspot use echolink on my phone but thinking about allstar and allready have a node number just need to get a radio to use as a node radio and get what i need to connect the radio to the raspberry pi. also need to buy the raspberry pi
Thanks I have many questions, I like the idea of this being analog radio. I have DStar which is fine for talking to others around the world but I am looking for maybe closer to home but not neccesarily digital but analog via voip radio. So this may be just what I am looking for. Getting started may be the hardest part of starting something new like this. Thanks for the great video. 73 and take care...Vic de KE8JWE
Oh I am so going to love these tutorials on AllStar I am lacking big time and need the background training! Keep it up and happy soon-to-be retirement! KN6SSP
Glad you like them
Love the background. Sorry, I had to bail because of work.
It's all good. The video will be here for you to replay later. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
@7:35 will an old thin client work instead? you can get them for like $5
I've been on ASL since '07 so at _least_ that long ago...
WOW!!!! THAT IS AWESOME!!! Wish I would have found it sooner. I LOVE IT!!!

@@Jah_Rastafari_ORIG I would have been honored to have met him. Thanks for sharing and supporting AllStar
Can someone please explain whether or not you can just connect your HT to an existing Allstar repeater and acces the system that way? It seems that every single Allstar video or tutorial goes straight to building your own node/PiStar device and I’m beginning to think that Allstar is just using your radio to talk to your Pi, and that the whole Allstar thing is just a more complicated version of Zoom or Skype. For cryin’ out loud, there’s even videos of using your iPhone or Android to connect directly to the Allstar net online. Someone please unfuddle my brain!
Yes you can access the Allstar system with an analog HT that's connected to a repeater with Allstar.
This Pi setup not only works as a node, but it's the part you'd add to a repeater to make it Allstar capable.
So, retiring from law enforcement. If you're in the same general area as Jason, I've got to ask if you know of Lawdog.
Well….I have heard many different officers referred to as Lawdog, including myself 😂
wished you went over what TF an allstar is to get why you would like to build an allstar node.
Literally there are 4-5 videos on THIS channel that explain that. A little search would be better time better spent than making uneducated comments.
Can you run an Allstar node from a PC?
Will 4gb raspberry 4 run allstar node or should I hold out for an 8 gb version?
for the life of me I can not seem to connect to your node 43136
Try now. I was having issues myself so I rebooted it
Can we get a list of items?
So can you take your pi moble of are you stuck at home with it
I take mine mobile
@@HamRadio2 can you use your data on your phone ot do you have to use a hotspot
I don't understand your question
Will a DigiRig interface play with HamVoIP or ASL?
You'd have to interface it between a Radio and a Pi, but yes
