      Haha cheers mate! I have lots of ideas but struggling to find time. I’ve actually had some kitchen renovations happening the last 2 months which have been a disaster. The few spare weekends I had got eaten up by returning contractors. I was supposed to go away this weekend just gone but again this kitchen got in the way! Extremely frustrating! Anyway I have some trips planned and can’t wait. 👍

      I’ve had some nasty head winds and it would have broken Mitch. I’m sure of that 😂 Surprisingly the video didn’t seem that windy. I had my microphone turned down and was talking loudly to make up for it so the strong wind noise wasn’t to bad. It would also come and go in patches! Either way I had a good time and plenty of laughs not caught in camera!
      Can’t wait for the next trip! 👍

      I actually couldn’t really remember the terrain but for years I wanted to go back. I could remember the trig, a lookout somewhere on the left (not sure if we road far enough) and some smooth fire trails down the bottom that where awesome on the dirt bike! I also remember an overgrown track up to the trig, I was surprised when I saw the car width tracks heading up!

      Nah, got to keep the camera safe. I just got a new tent and my recent sleeping bag upgrade packs smaller too! I think I’m at the point I could go without a backpack but I do like the camelback and using my body as suspension for my camera gear!

    I took my MTB/Gravel bike on the spring cycle last weekend and had the same problem with the neck after and hour or so (with the corner bar knockoffs). They feel great but i think i'd prefer them up a little higher for longer rides.

    • @advanturest
      @advanturest  2 роки тому +1

      I’m assuming you saw the build video? I have to have mine really low as the steerer tube isn’t long enough. I could get a different stem but the one I installed already points up a bit. As you said it feels awesome though, just starts to hurt the neck after a long ride! I’m not sure what I’m going to do now! I still wouldn’t mind trying actual drop bars so you have the proper hood position and the drops. I got another frame I might try them on 😂 (yes I have a problem)

    What front pannier rack are you using? Cheers

    • @advanturest
      @advanturest  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Mate, The rack is the Surly front rack. It was the first Bikepacking related bit off gear I bought because a few years earlier I was given some pannier bags. I stopped using it because the pannier bags were way to big and I found it clunky to strap smaller bags too. If I was to buy a front rack again I'd probably go something smaller that still has the fork legs exposed for cargo cages. I do like the look of the Surly rack when empty though 😃I put the rack back on because my handlebar roll didn't work with those corner bars!

    Could you tell me what bars you're using on the bike? Are they the Moloko? Also have a question about the GPS units that you are using? What battery life do you get out of that?

    • @advanturest
      @advanturest  2 роки тому

      Cheers mate! I’m currently on route to another trip as I type and this comment got me excited! The bars are a copy of the Surly Corner bar. I found I got a stiff neck from looking up so much, I think they sit a bit low. They would be nice on a bike with a longer steerer tube that you could raise the bars but unfortunately I can’t do that. My GPS is a Garmin Touch 25. I’ve had it for years and have different experiences with battery life. I use it on my dirt bike as well and if I have it full brightness on all the time using it to follow trails it uses heaps of battery.
      On these bikepacking trips we move a lot slower and I have it on screen saver mode which turns the screen off. This mode I can normally get 2 days out of it using rechargeable AA’s. Longer if I use Lithiums. If I need to use the GPS a lot it will start using more power. I normally carry a spare set of AA batteries.

      @@advanturest That's awesome! I'm starting my Goldfields track ride around the 13th (I've got two weeks off, but will do the ride in 5-6days weather dependant)
      Do you have a link to the knock off bars? I've been looking at the Moloko but man they'd cost me as much as I paid for the whole bike!! 🤣 Just after posting my comment you talked about the bars in the video too!! 🤣 😅 🤣
      Thanks for the info on the Garmin, that's really good to know - especially about the AA batteries! I've recently got a power bank for my phone, but I really want a secondary source for navigation. Plus I've got spare AA batteries for my headlamp too, so a couple of sets would be good fail over if things went wrong.
      I've started dropping as much weight as I can across my camp stuff too, so good to watch you doing that in the vid with your new bikepack bags as well. I'm going to try a light tarp & bivy setup, so will see how that goes....probably wet!! 🤣
      Hope this trip is a ripper! Looking forward to the next video!
