I went on holiday to Vancouver in the 1990s and that's the only time I've ever looked at emigrating. My job isn't skilled enough so no chance of holiday visa or permanent residence. The best of luck to you it's a beautiful Country
well welcome to Canada...my moms side of the family emigrated from the Manchester area to Canada...about 140 years ago :) .Canada is a BIG place, don't let your impressions of Toronto colour your view too much, life there is only one version of life in Canada...there are many others that can be different, and there's a place for everyone
Welcome to Canada! We moved over from Glasgow 11 years ago, but it still feels fresh and awesome. You'll see a lot of comments telling you how expensive it is to live here, but it's all relative. You obviously have the drive and perseverance to succeed, so stay chilled and enjoy the journey. It's all about networking over here, so feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help where I can. We are in Hamilton, about an hour south of Toronto. Good luck, Dave.

Massive respect. Im a hgv driver myself in the uk, firstly you done well passing in the uk as your now aware we are the hardest country to pass c+e and thats a fact! Secondly ive always wanted to go abroad to live but with young kids and a partner who cant agree it seems your living my dream! Weather its canada or england or anywhere in the world remember mirrors mirrors mirrors. Take your time and relax also canaidan trucks normally have spliter gearboxes very complicated if you dont know how but im happy to help if needed Get trucking wench 😊
Best of luck Jennifer, i did very same coming from Ireland to Canada. At least English people get a car license. I had do my car test and then get provisional class 1 licence before i could start training with the company and took ages.and money was getting drained from me stressful time
I was living of base in Canada (medicine hat ) and a lot of the lads had your plan but few things to keep in mind your going to need a trucking company to be your sponsor ,so start looking
That's really comforting to hear because I'm just starting out and I've found it incredibly difficult to battle anxiety and imposter syndrome, making me feel like I'm not good enough or aren't capable of doing it but its to be expected when you respect the dangers of the job and take the responsibility seriously I suppose! :)
ohhh no. canadian trucking is very very difficult. im a canadian (of indian origin)and driving is insanely hard on you physically and mentally. it stops being fun all of a sudden and then it hits u. be prepared to be a coffee/energy drink addict. i work as a diesel mechanic right now. its still a hard job but i prefer this to driving
that's awesome and best of luck to you, feel free to message me on instagram @jenniferalexandrawinters if you have any questions, Ill be happy to help.
Bless your heart.... I feel so so bad for you because you're starting your dream in the worst time possible. The "situation" in Canada has never been worse in many decades. The housing, especially in Toronto, in Ontario is crazy expensive and hard to find. The trucking industry is slow right now (I have lots of trucker friends and family) since Canadien economy is sliding into an ugly recession. The one advice I'll give you is if you can pass truck driving school in England, you'll find North American roads very easy so don't opt into "deluxe driving school" and just get the license so you can start driving. The school shouldn't cost youmore than 5k.
Nice, I did the same last year I lived in the UK for 15 years before I moved here. I did drive trucks there and now here. Depends where you will work I spend most of my time in the U.S. in the 3 weeks I spend on the road. Great experience you will love it. And the roads are way easier here . Getting the license was easier to although it took me a couple of days to get used to the 13 speed manual again get to lazy and comfortable with the automatic over the years 😅 But yes Toronto is not the same as I remember from my visit few years back still a fun place but the traffic is horrible on the 401 so be careful there. Try to visit BC and Alberta absolutely amazing around there. Best of luck to you 🎉
@@rastada1005 that’s awesome thank you so much! I found the licence wayyy harder to get here just by the mere fact that you do all 4 elements in one go and if you fail one you fail them all! But I’m definitely excited to get out on the roads over here!
@@jenniferwinters Must be different in Ontario because in New Brunswick if you pass your reversing but fail your driving or coupling you don’t have to do the reversing again. Same goes for the theory test. But each province is different But you will be fine 💪 make sure when you start to drive always have some cash on you, Canada or U.S. , on the winter get your self a small heater with a battery just in case of a breakdown -30 is not fun without heating 😅 good boots and gloves for the winter, spare wiper blades for sure and most importantly study the DOT regulations for Canada and U.S. and the weight restrictions for each province with open and closed axles. QC and Ontario is different so as BC and Alberta and of course the U.S. plus the hours are different to just to make it easier 😅 don’t stress about it not difficult easy to learn them
Congrats on passing your test. Even a driver with 15 years of experience can fail a test on any given day. It comes down to luck and technicalities. It will be your attitude to safety that will get you safely through your career. The GTA is a horribly expensive place to live, and a stressful place to drive. Winter driving will present you with your greatest challenges. Give some thought to living out west, MB, SK or AB. In Alberta driving jobs are plentiful, and with a good safety record, your time spent looking for a job will be measured in minutes rather than days. Welcome to your new corner of the Commonwealth. You will never be a stranger here!
I recently passed my Class 2 after the 4th attempt because of nerves. I had the same careless approach too and I think that helped. I'm now driving car transporters and that's hard. Again, during the training I feel anxious and nervous as I'm with the boss.
In all honesty, if you're breathing and can walk upright, you'll have no problem getting your license to drive HGV's here in Canada; the standards are pretty much at ankle level compared to when I started 36 years ago. Start looking early for a place to live since housing is at an all-time capacity crunch.
Cool, I’m dual nationality , lived over in Montreal for a few years. Personally happy to be back in the U.K. now, but will go back to Canada’s for holidays.
I could write a PHD on it, when it comes to it though, wherever you live grass isn’t always greener . You still have to pay bills, queue for busses , wait 2 weeks for a GP appt (postcode lottery in Canada too) . Canada is basically the same as the U.K. but with snow in the winter.
Ontario offers now options for permanent residency options for truck drivers.. look at moving to the prairies or east coast.. prepare to be mistreated. Treated like shit. Low pay. Terrible working conditions. And be prepared to pay a shit ton of money and mandated training hours…
failed twice myself and yeah i can relate to that feeling of just wanting to stop! but i spent so much i just couldn't turn away from it and thank god 3rd time passed with 2 minors! i swear to god i lost weight i was sweating so much every time the tester was in the cab.
@@anids1988 it’s honestly such an underrated form of stress, I had about 4 continuous weeks of intense anxiety and it really negatively affected my body. Couldn’t sleep or eat, so glad that chapter is behind me 🤣 congratulations on finally passing! You should be so proud of yourself!
I can't speak for Canada but I can definitely say that if it's anything like an American truck test for anybody with a UK class1 you'll absolutely waltz through it.I spent 30yrs driving trucks all over USA and Europe and New Zealand and if you'll permit me to offer you a couple of bits of advice. 1.Dont listen to the male macho bullshit that you'll get but as a northern girl I'm quite sure you can dish out as good as anything that comes your way. 2.North American trucks are a lot bigger and longer than over here maybe do a couple of months on a ridged first just to get a little experience. 3.Never be afraid to ask for help we all had to start somewhere. 4.And finally the father in me says if you really want to do long haul.As a female on her own please please please be careful.Trust your instincts if you don't feel safe then your probably not. Have a great time and welcome to the big boys(sorry girls) club!!🚛🇨🇦
Hello Jennifer How is your trucker journey going so far here in Toronto area ? Did you had chance to do AZ written test already ? I’m myself doing this for past 34 years coast to coast, drove in EU for short period also. If you have any technical questions or some concerns just simply ask will share my time with you ok. I’m in downtown Mississauga base. Best wishes. Cheers
Fair play to Ya 👍 hardest thing ever saying goodbye, I've been here 15yrs now with my family had my own truck for over 10yrs. Try Penner International for a job there's plenty of lady drivers on here and as driving jobs go out here it's one of the best for dryvan work, are main yard is in Steinbach Manitoba but also have terminals all over canada with one in Mississauga and they were looking for drivers based there a few months ago, best of luck 👍 and if ya need and questions answered on driving out here feel free to ask. Cheers Neal

WELL DONE but inlast 3 yrs in england . ENGLISH prevouis governtment TORY/CONS . CHANGED to rules on taking & passing HGV1 /// LGV (C+E) TEST SOME say lot easier now back when i took my hgv 1 1991?????? . BUT then we never had theory / mod 4 digi tacho driver cards & dreaded money spinner CPC every 5 yrs .
Honestly I would not move to Canada to drive trucks you get paid per mile messed around a lot and pay not the best and with the current circumstances and taxes you basically working for free can not afford anything or go anywhere and can not live of a single person wage…. Prices are ridiculous out here, you get 2 weeks of a year and work like a dog…. Trucking out in Canada and states is a life not a job it’s tough The only good think is that you travel and rack up miles like never before, I covered over 110k miles last year…. It’s crazy…. You get money back when you put your taxes in which is good…. I been out here for 4 years heading back to uk next year after taxes… Not trying to put a damper on your dreams just trying to let you know it not the dream like it used to be Canada change and not for the good
CANIDA and USA can be an awesome places to visit but as they saying goes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. personally id prefer to viste than emigrate. maybe that's down to my life Experian's of being in the military and being based in canada for 6 months. pay can be better but housing isnt nessarly also must have health insurance and do you're taxes witch is one reason why pay seems better but not nesserly. but wish you wel. i have some veteran friends who moved to canida but doing banking. emigrating isnt easy. personally even when i my visiting some favrote places in the world like in the US i still miss the UK, in my opinion no where truly compares to home even if its on a bigger scale.but well done its not easy making big life changes let alone moving to a different country.
At least Jen you won't have that bullshit cpc course to do in Canada. The training in Canada is top class and they use Elogs easier to use and understand than digital techo, have in uk and Europe
They didn't try to persuade me so to speak, just made me aware of potential issues I might run into and they also expressed they'd miss me very much but ultimately came around to supporting me and cheering me on in the end and now they're coming to visit soon :)
@@Thibov well luckily for me I do it for the love of driving and the scenery, the money would be just a bonus, beats working in an office cage for the rest of my life lol
Go to Victoria British Columbia and go to Saferway Driving School to get your class 1. Best school…also better paying jobs…Ontario pays shit for trucking because of all the Indian Drivers and the labour laws favour the employer more…
Do NOT get your AZ in Ontario! Go to BC…Better schools and better pay! The Labour Laws in Ontario favour the employer more than the driver…I’ve had 20 years experience driving ACZ (Class 1) in Canada.
It must me so new for you being here. We have kinda bad job market for truck drivers right now in Toronto. All companies are raising the exp level requirements to get hired. I am myself a driver with a little over a year of exp. If you need any help I can help you out. Company I work for, constantly hire rookies.
@@kubac9700 also, please can you tell me your name so I can add it to my application as they ask if someone recommended the role to you? Thank you so much!
OK You are obviously crazy. Get out of Toronto as fast as you can, its like London but 10x worse. If it was me, I would go out to Manitoba, Sask, or Alberta. Lower densities will be better for driving. No one will hire you unless you can enter the USA without issue, although it seems you can do that already. It will take years to adjust to cities being days of driving away. Good luck.
@@acanadianineurope814 thanks, I guess? lol There are several reasons for me choosing Toronto, one of them being that my partner lives in New York so it’s way easier for us to see each other and it’s also closer to fly home and visit family. well welcome to Canada...my moms side of the family emigrated from the Manchester area to Canada...about 140 years ago :) .Canada is a BIG place, don't let your impressions of Toronto colour your view too much, life there is only one version of life in Canada...there are many others that can be different, and there's a place for everyone
Well done welcome to canada. I know the feeling as I done the same thing 18 years ago and still living the dream.
@@csway1 that’s so inspiring! You have both licenses from the UK and Canada?
I had a class 1 in yhe uk and drove for 14 years before moving to canada. I gave up uk class 1 to change to Canadian class 1.
@@ScottRails Hi Dave thank you so much for reaching out! I’m in port credit not too far from there and I’m going to Hamilton for my AZ test 🤣 really appreciate your advice
Best of luck kid ☘️
Massive respect. Im a hgv driver myself in the uk, firstly you done well passing in the uk as your now aware we are the hardest country to pass c+e and thats a fact!
Secondly ive always wanted to go abroad to live but with young kids and a partner who cant agree it seems your living my dream!
Weather its canada or england or anywhere in the world remember mirrors mirrors mirrors. Take your time and relax also canaidan trucks normally have spliter gearboxes very complicated if you dont know how but im happy to help if needed
Get trucking wench 😊
Best of luck Jennifer, i did very same coming from Ireland to Canada. At least English people get a car license. I had do my car test and then get provisional class 1 licence before i could start training with the company and took ages.and money was getting drained from me stressful time
I was living of base in Canada (medicine hat ) and a lot of the lads had your plan but few things to keep in mind your going to need a trucking company to be your sponsor ,so start looking
All the best and welcome and if you are trucking for me the first 6 to 8 months was the hardest trying to learn everything
Good luck darling ❤
ohhh no. canadian trucking is very very difficult.
im a canadian (of indian origin)and driving is insanely hard on you physically and mentally. it stops being fun all of a sudden and then it hits u. be prepared to be a coffee/energy drink addict.
i work as a diesel mechanic right now. its still a hard job but i prefer this to driving
I'm making a move in Jan'25
I'm doing exactly what u did before u left for Canada.
I'm hoping to see more videos from u, so I can learn from u.
that's awesome and best of luck to you, feel free to message me on instagram @jenniferalexandrawinters if you have any questions, Ill be happy to help.
well done congrats
Welcome to Canada!
Thank you so much! I love it here :)
Nice, I did the same last year
I lived in the UK for 15 years before I moved here. I did drive trucks there and now here. Depends where you will work I spend most of my time in the U.S. in the 3 weeks I spend on the road. Great experience you will love it. And the roads are way easier here . Getting the license was easier to although it took me a couple of days to get used to the 13 speed manual again get to lazy and comfortable with the automatic over the years 😅
But yes Toronto is not the same as I remember from my visit few years back still a fun place but the traffic is horrible on the 401 so be careful there.
But each province is different
But you will be fine 💪 make sure when you start to drive always have some cash on you, Canada or U.S. , on the winter get your self a small heater with a battery just in case of a breakdown -30 is not fun without heating 😅 good boots and gloves for the winter, spare wiper blades for sure and most importantly study the DOT regulations for Canada and U.S. and the weight restrictions for each province with open and closed axles. QC and Ontario is different so as BC and Alberta and of course the U.S. plus the hours are different to just to make it easier 😅 don’t stress about it not difficult easy to learn them
Best of luck in Canada and as I always say, if you can't do it now, when can you do it? 😉
I wish I knew you in the uk I would of helped you well done :)
In all honesty, if you're breathing and can walk upright, you'll have no problem getting your license to drive HGV's here in Canada; the standards are pretty much at ankle level compared to when I started 36 years ago. Start looking early for a place to live since housing is at an all-time capacity crunch.
I’m legit 50/50 on doing the same thing
@@joshharrison3634 do it, best decision I ever made 🙂 if you don’t try, you’ll never know
Erb Group is a great company to work for .They have many locations . Haul refrigerated trailers all over North America.
@@lesliemcdougall4373 they don’t hire new drivers it seems!
@jenniferwinters I can see that as they have all pretty new equipment and a reputation to protect. Good luck in your job search.
@@lesliemcdougall4373 thank you so much Leslie, I have my fingers crossed 🤞🏼
Cool, I’m dual nationality , lived over in Montreal for a few years. Personally happy to be back in the U.K. now, but will go back to Canada’s for holidays.
Just wonder why you prefer UK is better than Canada?
I could write a PHD on it, when it comes to it though, wherever you live grass isn’t always greener . You still have to pay bills, queue for busses , wait 2 weeks for a GP appt (postcode lottery in Canada too) . Canada is basically the same as the U.K. but with snow in the winter.
Also 2 years work experience required driving semi truck.. good luck
Also look into bus/train/streetcar operator jobs for the TTC (Toronto Transit Commision) strong union and benefits

New Subscriber. Just out of interest how much did the Uk C+E training cost. How much was the tests
Hello Jennifer
How is your trucker journey going so far here in Toronto area ?
Cheers Neal
@@nianiamh thank you SO much Neal, I’m definitely gonna give it a go and Mississauga is actually where I’m currently based so thank you!

Drove in EU also back in 1989’
Best wishes to you and have fingers crossed that everything play well for you. Cheers

You only really fail when you give up, Good luck in Canada i looked at it 20 years ago but decided it wasn't for me 👍
👍💐🙂
WELL DONE but inlast 3 yrs in england . ENGLISH prevouis governtment TORY/CONS . CHANGED to rules on taking & passing HGV1 /// LGV (C+E) TEST SOME say lot easier now back when i took my hgv 1 1991?????? . BUT then we never had theory / mod 4 digi tacho driver cards & dreaded money spinner CPC every 5 yrs .
did you say c1+e?... was that the vehicle you passed in which is on the photo?
Questioning that myself. There are other references to C+E but she herself said C1+E (i.e. 7.5 ton plus trailer)
Trucking out in Canada and states is a life not a job it’s tough
The only good think is that you travel and rack up miles like never before, I covered over 110k miles last year…. It’s crazy…. You get money back when you put your taxes in which is good…. I been out here for 4 years heading back to uk next year after taxes…
Not trying to put a damper on your dreams just trying to let you know it not the dream like it used to be Canada change and not for the good
Go west! Plenty of jobs for drivers. Wide open spaces to gain experience driving 😁
England is finished
At least Jen you won't have that bullshit cpc course to do in Canada. The training in Canada is top class and they use Elogs easier to use and understand than digital techo, have in uk and Europe
Bring me together then you will not alone 😊
Interesting but wondering if your family tried to persuade you not to go.
They didn't try to persuade me so to speak, just made me aware of potential issues I might run into and they also expressed they'd miss me very much but ultimately came around to supporting me and cheering me on in the end and now they're coming to visit soon :)
@@jenniferwinters That's good. Just wondering as my son has gone to live aborad although to be honest he's back here every time I turn around!
Unfortunately pretty soon you'll be disappointed working as a trucker in Canada, long driving hours and no money here in this industry at the moment
OK
You are obviously crazy.
Good luck.
@@acanadianineurope814 thanks, I guess? lol
There are several reasons for me choosing Toronto, one of them being that my partner lives in New York so it’s way easier for us to see each other and it’s also closer to fly home and visit family. Thank you for the advice, I’m going to see how I get on here and then take it from there! 🙂
You seem like an ideal candidate for a career as a heavy vehicle driver and then to export that "experience" to another country under a skilled imigrant scheme.........
