I just got my Expert grade delivered, SA June 1942. By the drawing numbers it’s mostly SA WWII parts between 1942-1944 except the ops rod W.R.A mid 44 and rear sights that are post war and of course the barrel and stock. This thing is sweet…
I got a Winchester M1 , Oct 1941 at CMP. Inspecting the trigger housing and found fine sand in the bottom. Got cold chills and put it back together , oiled it lightly and back in the rack !
I love these I almost put a new stock and refinished my December 1944 Springfield M1-GARAND but the stock is in very good shape and shows it did it's part. I cant bring myself to alter it just yet. Fist sized groups at 600 yards with the occasional flyer on my part. $550 about 6 years ago, CMP would probably call it Service Grade but I absolutely love it.
I ordered one of these and it’s nice to see what I’ll be getting. I wasn’t sure with the new grading, it looks nice. I have a correct grade 1955 SA that is beautiful and I want one so I can shoot more. Thanks for the video…
Iv had one for quite a few years now and it is a very nice example! I ordered a grand gear gas plug for it and that is all I needed! I keep it with my model 12 winchester 1942 production that was a guard unit shotgun from oakridge national laboratory, i have a 1957 model 12 as well they are well made Firearms all steel and walnut . Hard to beat the quality and accuracy of the old Firearms.
I too have installed a Garand gear gas plug. Should prolong the rifle's life....And I only shoot M! ammo now after bending my op-rod using hunting ammo. Still have hunting ammo stored for emergencies.
Good stuff. Mine literally took 6 days from the time I put my papers in the mail to be in my hands. I had held off because I'd heard several horror stories about wait times.
Fine sir, may I ask now that it’s been a year which one holds a fonder place in your heart? I’m assuming it’s your 1945 field grade but I could be wrong.
Well ya, the field grade has taken out a good share of the enemies over it's service life, however thre new expert grade has a new barrel and is a tack driver.
@@sfcrick1 interesting. I may have to add one. I’m at the beginning of my M1 collecting having just got one. Field grade as well but I’m extremely happy with it. If you’re interested I just put up a video of it on my page.
Just curious, why does the WWII era M1 Garand have a satin lacquer finish while the NEW rejuvenated M1 has a dull no lacquer finish? Could that be added to capture some of the original look?
Canadian here. Great video. I think the M1 Garand is a beautiful rifle and a classic. It must have given the infantrymen great confidence to carry such a weapon into battle. Can you tell me what CMP stands for? I keep seeing this in most Garand videos. God Bless America from your northern neighbour. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
@@eclectic3618 Yeah...our version of Biden just tried to pass a law that would have almost made all guns illegal. Hope all is well in Texas and you get control of your border back. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Sent my paperwork in 3 weeks ago. Got my confirmation email on Friday that I'm in line to ship. Cant wait really hoping the other grades come back at some point as I would like both also.
@@Guillotines_For_Globalists Hmm not sure I know it depends on what you order and rifle availability. They are probably chasing a back log of orders faster than they can build them. I do know they are still trying to fill orders for the field and service grades that have been out of stock to order for months now. Hopefully they come back once they catch up.
@@ZacharyGalloway Back in August the only availability for a Garand was for a field grade. Confirmed delivery via tracking that my order package delivered in mid August 2021. The next time I heard any peep from the CMP was in mid February 2022 when I was told that my order was being processed. And then a few weeks ago in March 2022 I received an offer that field grade was backordered but that the CMP had just received a limited batch of service grade rifles "possibly the last time ever" and I was given the opportunity to upgrade (which I did) or wait out the backorder for my original field grade order. And then a few days after I asked to upgrade my rifle was shipped, and delivered to me last week, end of March 2022.

I recently got one of those CMP expert grade Garands from a guy selling on gun broker; it's a Springfield receiver, 1942, same looking wood as the new one shown here. I am curious, though, if the wood is the same type from the old model to the new. Night and day difference in overall looks!
No it doesn't mean that specifically, I watched the CMP video on UA-cam when they brought back the M1's from the Philippines and then saw M1's with the same white rack numbers. That is the reason I knew this one was from that shipment.
@@sfcrick1 Ha, I just finished watching that video a few minutes ago. I’m getting one that had the number 33 hand painted on it, on the stock right behind where the serial number is on the receiver.
@@sfcrick1 No. When I ordered in August 2021 the only grade available was field grade. Then a few weeks ago I received an email stating that field grade was on backorder but they received a limited supply of service grade rifles and were offering the upgrade for a limited time, so I took advantage of that, paid the $750, and a few days later it was shipped. And then the last communication about the upgrade from field to service was in mid March 2022. So the whole process took over 7 months from delivery of my order package to the CMP, to the delivery of my rifle at my door.
@@Guillotines_For_Globalists It took me a few months to get my Field Grade last year. I ordered a Service grade but after a couple of months they told to downgrade to Field grade and a few months later got it. @@sfcrick1 In all honesty I can't tell much of a difference here watching this expert grade versus my service grade. The rifling looks immaculate. New stock and all metals appear to be refinished or virgin. I also have a H&R dated 1956. It looks like it was manufactured yesterday.
Hope my Expert Grade comes that fast! Are you in the midwest, west, south, or east. I live in the west, hopefully that won't be a factor. Thanks for presenting it. Beautiful rifle.
I don't think I'd want an expert grade. My a grade or two lower cause I'd rather have one with all of it's original parts (assuming they're functional). I'd prefer the wear and tear to see what it has been through and imo I feel like I'd appreciate more like that
The rifle you have has a stock made by Boyd's turned to specs supplied by DuPage Trading and sent to the CMP. You may have to stand some wood where the oprod can contact the stock. Your rifle has new springs for the oprod. The Criterian(CBI) aftermarket barrel is a excellent aftermarket one that is very accurate. The reciever could be off a Turkish or Philippine return. Some of the rifles shipped had stocks that were in real bad shape. Before they were imported the CMP had to treat the old wood as there was signs of termite damage. Enjoy.
The wood is beautiful and fights as a new stock should, tight and flawless. I couldn't be happier with it on the firing line at the rifle range or inside my gun room. CMP has an excellent process of turning old M1 Garand receivers from the MAP program as the rifles come back from other countries. Like most I have a fine Field Grade M1 from the Philippines and this Expert Grade which also maybe a Philippine return that was completely reconditioned. I have had accurate results on the Rifle range with both of these fine Service rifles.
I'm sort of glad I didn't get a CMP. I won an auction on a non-cmp Garand on gun broker for less than an "Expert grade" and it's in better condition than any one that I've seen. Zero pitting and it's a 1942 production, all correct parts, stock is in great condition, brand new criterion barrel with the original included.
Please notice me. Not recommended. See the CMP website for a warning against ammo not specifically manufactured to USGI M2 Ball specs. There are commercially made rounds by Federal for the Garand and others that can be safely fired. You can also purchase a ported gas plug like those made by Schuester or pick up one sold by AmmoGarand aka Packrats that adjust the gas pressure to a safe level. Higher pressures can damage the oprod or cause other damage. You can visit several of my gun groups on Facebook for more info. Look for the M1 Collectors Club or M-1 Garand Enthusiasts Group. We can answer any additional questions.
