Only if that person has a high intelligence in one of those kinds. It's not equivocating "talent" with intelligence, is saying that different talents require different kinds of intelligence. For example, I'm really good at numbers, finding patterns and flaws on things, aplying logic on everything, etc. Some people say I'm intelligent because of that, but I could NEVER do things that require other kinds of intelligence even near as good as other people

Yes, definitely! There is a "teach smart". I know it exists because it is my greatest strength. You first have to be, naturally, very easily confused; then you have to make every conceivable mistake you can possibly make before you get anything right. After this, you will know, exactly, what order things must occur in; and you will be able to, effectively, explain just about any pitfall that can possibly come up in the learning/training process. You must have to first deal with tremendous weaknesses before you can atain this strength.
I also doubt that solving math puzzles is the only type intelligence there is but unfortunately it is still the basis for a lot of college and job selections.
Of course, that only matters if you want to go to college or have a particular type of job. and a lot of that ties into not only ability but also motivation. I know a set of young triplets and I can see already who will be likely to thrive in a college setting, who would be discouraged because there is a lot of weight on a particular style of learning that he is not inclined towards (he would need hands-on experience and tangible product of effort; like learning a trade), and I can see who would not want to go to college at all but will want to start their own business without spending money on something that would not apply to what they want to do in life. All of these "intelligences" or inclinations play into learning styles and other factors that are complex and makeup a person's person. Very interesting stuff.
I like how they casually mention Mrs. Music Smart was part of the project because she wrote a song about a bridge. As if that's a totally normal thing that happens.
I think there is definitely truth to the multiple intelligence theory (even if it's not easy to test it), but some of the categories are starting to get too close to the personality category. For example, existential or pedagogical intelligence can easily be aspects of personality and partially aspects of the other types of intelligence mentioned. Interpersonal and intrapersonal can also to a large degree be associated with personality, though I like to think some aspects of them can be classed as a talent. For example, being good at understanding other people and delivering information in a convincing way would be interpersonal intelligence. And being good at accurately self-reflecting and establishing goals for oneself would be intrapersonal intelligence. Naturalist intelligence is not only about liking animals and nature (that would be personality). It's more about being able to understand other living things and having the ability to tend to them and care for them. IQ and EQ would have correlations with many of these. IQ would correlate with majority of these - logical, verbal, spatial, and possibly to some degree the others as well, since IQ is about how fast you learn new things. EQ, I believe, would mainly correlate with interpersonal, naturalist, and possibly intrapersonal intelligence.
@@MatthewAshworth Intrapersonal intelligence means understanding your own feelings and naturalist intelligence means understanding feelings of others. But I think understanding your feelings and those of others are the same intelligence. If you understand those of others, you'll understand your own and vice versa. And I think autism and psychopathy don't count, since they're mental illnessess.
@@vinsplayer2634 It is a good point. I think all these intelligences can be grouped together one way or another. If you think about it, logical and spatial, and to some degree verbal, is all about understanding patterns (just in different contexts). And interpersonal certainly can be grouped with intrapersonal based on what you said (understanding feelings). But despite similarities, they also have differences, and I think this is what multiple intelligences theory is about, splitting them all up based on differences.
quantifying, cathegorising and explaining is certaily helping understand a new idea. Einstein (I think) said: if you aren't able to explain a new concept simply enough, that means that you haven't understood it well enough. I am delighted to watch the way you combine visual with narration on explaining new (or new to me) concepts! In a real world I think each of us is operating on a combinations of all those qualities - we have learnt to develop one or more of them intro a skill or weakness depending on the opportunities we had in our childhood. Some people teach better than others so I assume so BUT every teacher has a style that could fit into the 9 intelligences so I think not. Are there subtypes of intelligence?
As a middle school Language Arts teacher, I would teach these types of intelligence in the beginning of the school year. There was a two fold purpose. First, to familiarize these young adults that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. If you weren't a good reader/writer or mathematically inclined, your strengths and intelligence may be in another area. This would raise the self-esteem of those who thought success was predicated on English and math. They learned early that everyone can make contributions in this world. The second purpose was about knowing thyself and others. Every year, I accomplished my mission of making my students better readers/writers and speakers and listeners. It may have been called language arts but I looked it as communications class. The students learned the skills necessary to become better communicators using their strengths and/or types of intelligence best suited for the situation.
Teach smart I believe to be a hybrid of interpersonal skills and interpersonal skills. Being able and willing to learn the other person's mind and how will best learn and understanding your own mind enough to change to fit their learning style.
*Logic and Reasoning *Expression and Creativity *Empathy and Understanding *Communication *Dexterity *Transference These are the facets of intelligence we display, each on a spectrum within our psyche, some traits are more developed in individuals than other traits. Some come naturally others as skills we develop. The greatest of this set of intelligence types is Transference, this is the ability to transfer skills and knowledge from one aspect of the intelligence field to others, for example the use of mathematics in art or the ability to put words together into a musical form, the list can certainly be expanded. We all display all of these intellectual qualities and through nurturing or nature we develop some, all or one of these, the others are there, but dormant... like people who sing really well in the shower, but can't perform on stage.... practice is what make us better at our intelligence sets, not withstanding that individuals will have natural phobias or may be cognitively or socially as well as psychologically disadvantaged positively or negatively in one , some or all the traits; e.g. Autism, Cerebral palsy, sociopaths (who are more often than not, good at all the sets)
Maybe I don't have the right "intelligence" but I can't say I agree or disagree with this whole thing. This sort of compartmentalization seems kind of arbitrary. For example I find the "nature smart" guy to just be a nature loving environmentalist. That's more on a philosophical side of things imo. Or why not combine the people person with the speech giver? Is teaching separate or a combination of those things? I don't think us UA-cam commenters can really give a proper answer since we are not versed enough in psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, anthropology, etc (maybe a few are knowledgeable in a couple of areas but definitely not all). I can see this video to be both positive for people who know what they are and want to capitalize on it and at the same time negative to those unsure or those who are frustrated with what they got (usually the more feel type of "intelligence"). Still a nice video though and good food for thought :]
Intelligence cannot be measured. All the tests done only make one feel depressed. Coz Einstein definitely didn't take a IQ test, did he? You should be happy and make people happy, that's all. You are here for a century. The universe has stayed for some 137 billion such centuries (13.7 trillion years). You are here for a moment and gone the next. So, all I would like to say is intelligence is not the only factor about "Intelligence" lol
Aka theory of multiple intelligences that is taught to teachers to make there lesson plans apply to as a many students as possible. All people fall into multiple categories and tend to favor one or two.
imma just summarise it cus it feels ezier dis way -_- 1. the architect -- 0:37 2. the forsighter -- 0:55 [the word does not exsist but yeah just someone who forsees possible issues] 3. the accountant -- 1:14 4.the representative -- 1:39 5. the essayist -- 2:09 6. the salesperson -- 2:32 7. the strongman -- 2:58 8. the therapist -- 3:19 9. the musician -- 3:48 anyways just my opinion ciao-
A complete human being is the one who possess all the nine types of intelligence....becoz in our day to day experience someway or the other we are putting one or the other type or types into use..
What you are talking about is nonsense. No one has all the traits of the nine types of intelligence because the theory itself suggest that everyone has their own specialty and everyone has something that they werent specialized for.
These are just examples of people being good at various tasks. A measure of intelligence would be _capacity for learning, ability to change one's worldview with new argument and evidence,_ or _problem solving capacity_
"Naturalist" shouldn't be a category by itself, it's too specific towards one particular subject. It's more like a sense of responsibility or awareness rather than a type of intelligence. Being aware that one should respect nature doesn't mean you're good at solving problems related to it.
These are just nine arbitrary measures. Others could find 15, or group them into 4 or 5. I think risk assessment for example goes better with spatial skills ( type 1) than with the number cruncher!
And just like everyone who saw this video, every person has each of these types of intelligence, just in different leves! Brain is like a muscle, and like muscles, you can train all of the intelligence or ones you want to improve!
I think it's best to state that Gardiner has a firm grasp on how overlapping ideas of intelligence, such as creativity, EQ and IQ can be practically shown in life in the 10 smarts shown. People who are musically smart, mathematically smart and visually smart are actually all able to draw upon abstract reasoning in IQ tests, which is the most accurately assessed aspect of IQ. Like it is the type of intelligence test we would be able to assess in animals and even aliens. Life smart, word smart and people smart would all rely on verbal comprehension, EQ and creativity, with a lot of influence coming from the popularity of their views influencing their success, including their personality type, particularly levels of neuroticism and extraversion. People who are nature smart, body smart and intrapersonally smart all rely on a multitude of spatial problem solving, relationship building and cultivating, including diversifying all other types of intelligence and cognitive traits that are needed in their life. Pedagogical smarts is useful in all fields and actually makes you smarter overall as the saying "learn one, do one, teach one" is universally applicable across every field and uses pretty much all smarts in order to get there. So the multiple intelligences theory is useful in understanding how intelligence is used and manifested in real life pragmatically, but is best used in conjunction with personality theory, emotional intelligence and general intelligence theory. In my opinion, the beauty of Gardiner's work is that it makes the concept of intelligence pragmatic and a lot less theoretical. It addresses how intelligence is demonstrated in non-academic and academic persons and encourages people to embrace creativity, perspective and a variety of activities, which actually assists in keeping yourself healthy, happy and prosperous!

I really think that he should add teach smart to the theory because knowing something and be able to effectively share and help someone understand it is a totally different skill. Compared to the 9, it is almost a blend of the 9.
Think it's cool though, not limiting the idea of intelligence creates some new possibilities for people. I think no model is likely to ever fit true intelligence, but this hints at some other directions that you wouldn't consider just looking at IQ or EQ @@sprouts
Hmmm. Maybe 9 "Inclinations". And if that, there are likely many more and there is likely a way to categorize aspects of each of them together to create totally different ones. I can say though that I see children and adults that have particular inclinations that drive how they learn and process information.
Agree on this, there may be more categories in this too.. throughout history some form of intelligence has been given more importance and rest neglected , like maths was more important in 1980 to 2005, now is the age of design intelligence
I understood that Gardner first wrote about 7 intelligences originally. I know the Naturalist Intelligence was not included in my study of MIs. It is the learning Theory I support strongly as it encourages students to work smarter with what they have. I have no time for IQ tests as they can only score what’s within the four walls and corners of a test. ‘Intelligent’ people often lack self knowledge (intrapersonal intelligence) and knowledge of others (interpersonal intelligence) which often eaves then feeling isolated or different and unable to form meaningful relationships. It’s better to teach students, children and adult, to work smarter with what they have.
Thank u. For letting all us know that there lot more types of Intelligence. Well, Now seeing this video it does boost my motivation as I get know that I am a "Nature Smart".
Intelligence is much more than any one IQ number. There is verbal ability, executive function, emotional intelligence, spatial reasoning and other measures. I don't know that there is any strict categorization, but there are many facets to intelligence.
Hello, I am a convinced believer that one type of intelligence out of nine is born more dominant, I call it human potential. It must be recognized and then developed. This is where the formula for happiness lies.
The conclusion of this video is every person will focus on some field of activity, becoming good at it if eager enough. Intelligence is and has always been a capability to collect, process and to use knowledge, while also capable of questioning things (i.e. forming new entireties of pre-existing material) and thinking independently. It's no use differentiating all the possible ways you may express your intelligence, while the ground phenomenon is always the same. Why people focus and get good on different things is a matter of interest, not intelligence. There are musical families, for instance, not because of some mystical genetic impact, but simply because music is present in the family and probably positively encouraged. Of course some people are better fit to do some activity, especially in sports and other physical activities, but mentally there is not so much differentiation in the end, if everyone would get similar premises from the start.
I have a question. I know this show where a 6th grader got a C on book report he worked very hard on and failed a math quiz. The teacher said "he did the best he could, he just didn't understand the material," and he considered the failure his own. Those were the only clips about the boy. What type of intelligence would we say he has?
@John Doe Because the truth is, I don't think I believe in intelligence anymore, or that everyone is smart in their own way. I feel "smart" is a VERY exclusive word, just like "athletic or artistic." Not everybody are those certain words. Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Velma, and Sherlock Holmes count as "smart" people, so the word appropriately applies to them. Besides, this boy from the show certainly doesn't make a "smart" impression, given his academic efforts to merely get a C and F. I wouldn't say being hard working *alone and per se* makes you smart.
Yes. I really understand that those people are re-encountered to the power of Multiple Intelligence in the worlds. As for being new volunteered, I can followed the 9 types of Intelligence as followed as their people in the world around us. But I can pretty sure to work hard and study smart now.

I tend to think things through and try to predict several possible outcomes and work with several people who can't think ten minutes ahead, I don't find problems with every solution unless they are stupid solutions. and how come people with stupid solutions seem to be the ones put in charge of solving problems ? because they speak up first without thinking through the possible outcomes
I agree that there is a Teach Smart. There are many teachers who, the more strategies they use to teach, they can´t get their students understand the knowledge, use it in context, or enjoy it.It means those teachers don´t have Teach Smart.
How can one differentiate between categories of intelligence and categories of education? If people are educated at a young age in a specific set of subjects our minds grow in those areas. There are basic talents too. But like general physical talents, non-specific intellectual talents can be directed to specific complex tasks. So perhaps these definitions of intelligence are not so useful?
Do you know what all these people had in common? They all had an interest and pursued that interest by continuously practising and fine-tuning their skills. This is what I believe to be core of intelligence. You aren't born intelligent. You become intelligent by pursuing an interest, and by continuously practising and learning. This obsession of categorizing different types of intelligence, as if we are all destined to fit in one of those categories, just feels like it's undermining of what being intelligent really is. It's a continuous process of learning.
He needs to add the chimera who shape shifts into each role as needed by their astute observation of both people and the task at hand. They are both teachers and students and constantly study the other kinds of people so as to increase the productivity of all parties.
The Big Take Away is that everyone views the world a little differently......human kind does better when all those ideas are accepted and allowed to merge. Not when a few ideas are forced on everyone.
I agree with those, but I think that they give an esteem of intellectuality (knowledge and cognitive ability) in the specific subject, while IQ; EQ; creativity, analysis, understanding, process development... Those are more suited ideal to evaluate the cognitive condition of the mind which enables and regulates the development of those intellectuality types

I think intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence are kind of the same thing. Understanding feelings.
@@vinsplayer2634 Yeah, they are linked by understanding of feelings, though I'd say in different contexts.
Keep up the best work!

In almost everything here, nothing is 'one thing or another and nothing in between'. It's a whole spectrum, like the MBTI personality clasification
informative and enjoyable journey to learn the 9 types of intelligence. Thank you!
Some people teach better than others so I assume so BUT every teacher has a style that could fit into the 9 intelligences so I think not.
Are there subtypes of intelligence?
Might be combinations of them
Yes it is called personality

Glad to know! Keep learning :)
That’s great. It would have been nice to have a teacher like you when I was in school.
Teach smart I believe to be a hybrid of interpersonal skills and interpersonal skills. Being able and willing to learn the other person's mind and how will best learn and understanding your own mind enough to change to fit their learning style.
*Logic and Reasoning
*Expression and Creativity
*Empathy and Understanding
*Communication
*Dexterity
*Transference
These are the facets of intelligence we display, each on a spectrum within our psyche, some traits are more developed in individuals than other traits.
U certainly are teach smart ..

Keep up the good work!!
Predominant: Intrapersonal, musical and naturalist. Yup me in a nut-shell 🤷🏽♀️
After hard work comes intelligence. That's so purile for any individual. Prominent leaders are the admired individuals.
I think everyone is at least 3 of these
good video
It is ok to be smart and it is not needed also.
Thank you Michael Smart for this very smart comment! I also believe that this theory helps us understand the complexity of the subject intelligence and the variety of options we have in looking and analyzing it.

Well, Number smart found out that the bridge was overbudget. So convinces self smart to fire music, word and life smart.
The bridge also used non green materials despite nature smart opposition to save cost.
I have for the most part believed that there are different types of intelligence. Good to see it in this form.
1. Common sense smart.
2. Book smart
3. Problem solving smart
4. Creative smart
5. Wisdom smart - experience
I really think that he should add teach smart to the theory because knowing something and be able to effectively share and help someone understand it is a totally different skill. Compared to the 9, it is almost a blend of the 9.
Point! However, multiple intelligence theory always faces a backlash for going "too far".
Think it's cool though, not limiting the idea of intelligence creates some new possibilities for people. I think no model is likely to ever fit true intelligence, but this hints at some other directions that you wouldn't consider just looking at IQ or EQ @@sprouts
A perfect collaboration of the 9 types of intelligences. Well demonstrated! :)
These sound more like personality traits than types of intelligence, but I do believe that there are different types of intelligence.

Its necessary to note its only a theory but it is also important to note that no matter what always find a reason to be motivated.
Fortunately intelligent people will always be able to tell who is an idiot.
Yes. An intelligence type for each identity type. Can't go wrong.
In the book does it say that you can fall into multiple groups .knowing that answer would help me decide if I agree or disagree.
Yes. Gardner does not see these areas as mutually exclusive.
Hi I need some help with creating videos like this
I have a question.

This is a better way telling a types of Intelligence.

It's a continuous process of learning.
where does photographyand production fall under?
He needs to add the chimera who shape shifts into each role as needed by their astute observation of both people and the task at hand. They are both teachers and students and constantly study the other kinds of people so as to increase the productivity of all parties.
I took this test and I found out that I am an existentialist.
The Big Take Away is that everyone views the world a little differently......human kind does better when all those ideas are accepted and allowed to merge. Not when a few ideas are forced on everyone.
So what happens when you look at your life and its not visualised in the video
Can you name the software you've used?
I agree with those, but I think that they give an esteem of intellectuality (knowledge and cognitive ability) in the specific subject, while IQ; EQ; creativity, analysis, understanding, process development... Those are more suited ideal to evaluate the cognitive condition of the mind which enables and regulates the development of those intellectuality types
Point!
Yes, some people are well at teaching and that's my special besides the other one except the musical and natural intelligence.
