  • Levi Morgan one of the most dominating pro's to ever shoot 3D Tournaments is 32 up for the weekend and a second year pro who has yet to win a Pro Tournament is 32 as well. The Question is does the inexperienced archer got what it takes to control his nerves in the six target shootout. Jamie Jamison must be on his A game because once Levi gets in the shoot downs his dominance really begins to shine. Watch along as Jamie gives Levi all he can handle in what could be the shoot out of the decade.

    this is weird, shooting with compounds, with stabilizers, sights, binoculars and all that shit at 3D targets where everybody usually just shoots their trad bows at :D
    But as far as I understand that doesn't really make it any easier, it just puts the competition to a higher level of accuracy where the slightest mistake or offshoot can make you lose.

    I shoot recurves and longbows off the shelf but I won't pretend that shooting compound like this is easy. Is it so hard to give a little respect? I don't like shooting compound but that doesn't mean that it's easy or inferior to traditional archery.

    • @johnfrom781
      @johnfrom781 7 років тому

      Shooting a compound is not archery so you can't compare a compound to a traditional bow.

    • @megamixa
      @megamixa 6 років тому +2

      john from Why isn't it archery? It's a bow, isn't it? You shoot arrows, don't you?
      Quit being a traditional elistist. Why don't you go back to chucking stones at animals if you want a challenge.
      Compound bows require plenty skill. Bet you couldn't do anything close to this even with twice as much training.

    I disagree. I shoot traditional and compound. I think compound takes more SKILL, as to where traditional is more hand/eye coordination. It takes practice with BOTH, to get and stay good with either...but in my opinion, compound takes more skill. Most traditional shooters(not me) are happy putting five arrows in a paper plate size group at thirty yards. I can do it at forty most days, but even though you have sights, high tech rest, mechanical release, stabilizers and so forth....

    • @El_ultimo_Guille
      @El_ultimo_Guille 10 років тому +1

      compound more skill xD yeah right...you can shoot a compound with your pinkie, can you do that with a traditional bow? I don't think so. Be more respectful of other types of archery.

    • @johnfrom781
      @johnfrom781 7 років тому

      That's because a compound bow takes no skill. Anyone and I mean anyone can pick one up and drill 7" groups all day long from 40 yards with a compound since it's a mechanical device. It requires minimum operator input unlike a single string bow which does not operate on its own (unlike a compound).
      There's a reason why compounds are called compounds and it's because they are not actual bows and are just space age military mechanical leverage devices. Look at how fat and out of shape these guys are. They have no discipline. It takes no practice to get good with a compound device.
      This shit is also as boring as hell to watch. They sit there at full draw for 20+ seconds with their let off and rely on peep sights, the sight itself, stabilizers, wrist slings, and a mechanical release as crutches because they do not have the skill nor discipline to shoot a real bow that does not have these devices. If you want to go see real archery do a search for Howard Hill or Byron.
      Compound will never become a big money discipline nor very popular because there's no skill involved and it's very boring to watch.

      mach crush ....3D target archery is just that....TARGET ARCHERY. In target archery, long front bars to increase MOI, thereby reducing apparent movement and slowing pin float are the real world.
      Listen people, at the PRO level of 3D target archery, the shooters are not drinking beer, sighting in and “practicing” with their hunting rigs until they can hit the deer 4/5 times and call it good before they head to the woods. At the pro level you have to shoot better than perfect to even make the shoot off. Then you have to shoot better than everyone else on top of that. Y’all that are knocking this type of archery, obviously have never stood on a line under pressure, knowing that if you miss a 1.5” circle at what you guessed to be 43yds, you miss out on 50,000$ (prize and contingency money from sponsors).
      Hell, I am willing to be that you armchair archers out there that are hating on this aspect of archery could not come close to the scores these pros shoot, even if you were shooting 35 yds max, known yardage. For the record, the pro class shoots out to a little over 50yds, UNKNOWN distance to each target. They have to accurately determine distance to the target, set the sight, and make the shot. Also, in 2011 when this shoot was filmed, ASA had a 280 feet per second arrow speed limit. At that speed, being off by 2 yards on your distance, at a measured 40 yards, is about a 4 inch difference between where you are aiming and where the arrow hits. So you’ve missed the 12 ring completely, have no chance at the 14, and if you knew you might be off on yardage, so held a bit high or low on the 10, you MIGHT catch the 10, if you are lucky.
      And let’s not forget that on top of all this, you need to know how to manage the course too. In IBO shooting of course you just aim for the center 10 every target, and hope your yardage and aim are solid, take the 11, and move on. In ASA though, where the 12 rings come in to play, you’ve got to know when to shoot at them and when not to. Remember that discrepancy between arrow impact and aim I mentioned before? If you are aiming at the 12, and you are off on your yardage, you just hit an 8, or maybe a 5. At this level, shoot ONE 5 during a tournament and you are off the podium, just like that.
      So in short, if hitting a pie tin with your Sage from 7 yards in your backyard is your idea of what a “real archery challenge” is all about and what archery should be....congrats pee wee. Good for you. Maybe some day you will be able to hit that tin 6/6 times from 7 yards!!! In the meantime, have some fucking respect for those that put in countless hours of practice shooting, judging yardage, actually helping other archers, and being better people than you. Because aside from the differences in equipment and all that between pro shooters and backyard amateurs, you know what the biggest difference is? You won’t find the pros talking lame ass shit in the comments section of UA-cam. Their shooting and scores are all the commentary they need.

    • @geebee3d
      @geebee3d 6 років тому

      If you are just talking about finding foam, as they say, which means just hitting the target anywhere, I would suspect most of these guys could do that out to at least yards meters. The rules for the tournament they were shooting specify UNKOWN distance out to 50 yards.
      So for everyone that thinks this is easy because of the bow, think about this....the shooters have to judge the distance to the target. A misjudge of 1 yard means about 1.5inches high or low (this was in 2011 when the 280 FPS rule was still a thing...now it’s 300 FPS, so a 1 yard misjudge doesn’t punish as much as it used to). They then have to hold their pin on the scoring ring. Which sounds easy, but even at 20 yards, the rings blend in with the color of the target. So you have to know where to hold on the target. Let’s say you do all that perfectly. You still have to execute a perfect shot for the arrow to hit where you aimed. That is not easy with $20K on the line, your heart pumping from adrenaline, and every little bit of self doubt you’ve ever had trying to overcome your cool. And oh yeah, at the Pro level, every one of the shooters can shoot at least as good as every other pro. The competition is insane.
      So before you trash these guys on the UA-cam, get a bow setup with all the high tech stuff, get it sighted in out to 60 yards just to be safe, and shoot a round of unknown 3D from the long stake. Once you can shoot the scores these guys shoot, avg 420 for 40 targets, ASA scoring, join the pro circuit and show us all how easy it is.
      Heck, I’ll even let you shoot a known class out to 45 yards. You still don’t shoot the scores these guys do shooting unknown mind you, if you haven’t practiced....a lot.
      Now go. Lots of good bow deals online these days. Report back and tell us how you got along.

      Bubble Buddy ....lungs on a deer can be hit anywhere within an approx 8” circle. That’s a pretty forgiving target. The 14 ring on that target is approx 1” diameter. The margin for error is exponentially less while aiming for a 14 ring. Also, if you are aiming for an animals lungs at 80yds, and you miss by a few inches, you still hit the animal. As long as the hit was within the chest cavity, you still get your deer. If these guys miss a 14 ring at all, they shoot a 5. That miss costs about 20K$.
      So there is a huge difference between hunting and 3D target archery

    lol hold on!! before you shoot make sure your cams are tight also make sure your pathetic sights are lined up, dont for get to check the levels on your bow to make sure your holding it right. oh most importantly make sure your "bow" takes enough weight off your draw so you dont strain yourself before you literally pull the trigger and take your shot... please explain to us what part of shooting a compound takes skill or talent..

      Why aren't you a world champ if its so easy bud? They're shooting anywhere from 20 to 55 yards, UNKNOWN DISTANCE. That in itself is a challenge, then to be able to hit a 1 inch circle at 55 yards.. Thats real easy isnt it?

      Why do the Tour de France cyclists shift electrically?
      Why does Rossi Ride MotoGP with Tractioncontrol?
      Why are baseballbats usually aluminum or carbon?
      Why should you stop technological advancement?
      Get yourself a Compound bow, and let me know when you win everything there is to shoot!

      the part that takes skill & talent is that we are killing a moving animal not shooting a target that doesn't move. Please tell me more about how you killed an awesome buck from a tree stand? Have fun playing Robin Hood.

      Galin Swigart Agreed. I can fully appreciate the pride that people who shoot instinctively have, but the kind of accuracy that it requires to be competitive in, for example, 3D isn't possible with instinctive techniques.
      Yes, I know who Byron Ferguson is. No, I don't think he could win a 3D competition.
