I enjoyed this video. Shame you let the crumpets cool. You really need to toast crumpets until they are golden and put the butter on and eat while still piping hit. Clotted cream is one of those things that tastes nothing in particular by itself, but it really enhances the flavour of so many other things. If you can get freshly baked scones even better (though I would be inclined to eat the two halves separately rather than together - better ratio of jam, cream scone). You could also the butter on the scone instead of jam and cream - that works as well. The Guinness Cheese though just looked weird and your faces said it all. Glad you enjoyed the rest though
Hot crumpets with melted butter exactly as described. Good to see you liked the Colliers, my all-time favourite supermarket cheese. Crumpets have to be toasted until the top is just going hard and a little brown then buttered when hot, the butter melts and soaks down into all those spongy holes, its winter warmer heaven. You need to get some Branston Pickle (which is not related in any way to what American’s call pickles) then you can have a proper cheese and pickle sandwich.

The Cheddars you picked are mature ones that should have a strong, creamy/nutty taste and firm texture, though there are milder ones as well. In fact Cheddar comes in a huge variety and may be thought of as the standard British cheese. For variety, I'd have liked to see you tackle a Blue Stilton. A tip with the crumpets.... butter and eat straight from the grill while they're still hot. Oh, and when toasting 'em, don't stop until the outside is hard/crisp and going brown.
I didn't like Stilton until I was in my mid 20's and it suddenly clicked and I love it now. It's so strong the kids will hate it but my word it tastes amazing on a buttered cracker. Definitely a cheese for adults 😉

Leicester or leicestershire is pronounced lester or lester'sher, i love a real vintage or 24 month cave matured true cheddar from chedder in Somerset, the original cheddar. I also love an applewood smoked cheddar with red grapes and crackers and home grown sweet 100s tomatoes.
Most people I believe, halve the scones as you did and then spread the cream and jam on each half and eat them separately, this increases the jam and cream / scone ratio and makes it even tastier! Excellent vid as usual.
Yes. although do be careful about which way round (cream first then jam, or jam first then cream). that alone could start a war in some parts of Britain!!

The best cheddar comes from the town of Cheddar, there is a cave system there that was used to store and mature the cheese and the caves are still used today in the production of proper cheddar cheese. Also the gorge and cave system at Cheddar are fantastic to explore and walk around. A great day out for sure.
Colliers cheese is beautiful . It is a local product for me being based in Wales. Colliers also has the calcium salt crystals which seem to develop more after a few days. Because it is local, its also very cheap.
Gratz to Cordelia for joining such a nice family hehe. Jamie you actually joined in and tried a lot of the cheese, quite the young man. Thanks for the fun! CU next time.
Cream & Jam scones served with tea is called and advertised as a 'Cream Tea'. A popular between meal treat in cafes in the summer. Historical treat that goes back to the Victorian period.
A crumpet should be served hot so the butter melts through the holes they taste so much better hot and a traditional scone would be buttered then jam and then cream but through time people stopped buttering their scones, suppose thats why they use clotted cream. clotted cream is normally only used in cakes and with fruits.
Leicester is pronounced Lester. I'd say try my favourite, Cheshire cheese, but even I have trouble getting it about 40 miles from Cheshire. I always have pickled onions with it too. My belly is rumbling now.
I used to have clotted cream in vanilla ice cream. It would solidify, and you would end up with small chunks in your mouth which melted slowly, giving a really rich creamy flavour. Also, as I saw someone else comment, you do not make a sandwich out of scones. You cut them in half, and than put the cream and jam on both halves and eat them separately.
Guys try Welsh rarebit which is a bowl of grated cheese with a teaspoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of mustard with a sprinkle of black ground pepper and use a for to mix gently together, Toast bread then wait till it cools and crisps slightly and make sure the grill is hot then put mixture on the toast and put under the grill, then for some reasons it causes nightmares. It's awesome.
Just a tip for clotted cream it should be cold and to bring out its true flavour before you spread it on it needs a 5 second whipping it will stiffen up almost straight away then spread it! yummy..
The crumpets are like rubber. I cook them in a toaster till they almost start to burn. When they go hard and brownish they are much better. Then I put tons of butter on them and it melts right thru. Love the videos guys. Keep up the good work.
Crumpets stick them in the toaster, or grill them like toast. Then when hot put your butter on them. And the butter melts into the tiny holes. We have a cup of tea with crumpets. You could put jam ( jelly ) on them too. Also, you need to try the blue cheeses, Stilton, and others. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍💚
Rats are great pets, I've had a dozen or so over the years. They're social animals so it's better to have two or three, that way they can keep themselves company when there's no humans to play with.
The crumpets really need to be toasted until crispy golden brown and buttered while still hot. The hot butter runs down the holes into the soft interior. Delicious! (I wholeheartedly recommend Warburtons brand) 😎🤘I do need to warn you that they are as addictive as Jaffa cakes, Tea cakes and cream(/jam) scones though. On the cheese front, I recommend crumbly Lancashire and Wensleydale with apricots. Yum!
I was told by my chef (bless her she's almost eighty and has forgotten more food knowledge than I'll ever know) that English muffins were created by an American doctor working in London who loved crumpets but misread the recipe. I love happy accidents like this.
it also depends on which breed of cow and what type of grass it consumes during the summer months i'm not sure how your cows are fed but just letting them graze in a pasture field is the right way instead of mostly hay and grains
American "biscuits" (actually a misnomer) are salted scones, not the other way round! Real biscuits are actually crispy cookies. The term "biscuit' means cooked twice, which scones, salty or sweet, are not. The term "biscuit"comes from the French "bis" meaning again or secondary. "Cuit" is the past tense of "to cook". "Biscotti" is the Italian version.
@@BigJonTV "Americans try UK biscuits" needs to be done now! Rich Tea, Custard Creams, Ginger Nuts, Chocolate Digestives, and of course the mighty Hob Nob.
The red and white Leicester cheese is pronounced "Lester" cheese. Clotted cream is cooked cream, you can get much thicker clotted cream which has been cooked longer and tastes better. Top tip... Use the clotted cream in abundance, literally spoon it on. British scones are indeed American biscuits, sweet and savoury are available. You can add cheddar cheese to a savoury biscuit for cheese scones. Crumpets should be served hot, fresh from the toaster with both the top and bottom crispy and allow large amounts of butter to melt into the inside making it a lavish snack, also tastes great with added jam/jelly. You can even try a crumpet and then melt cheese into the top under the grill... Delicious! Keep up the great work.
Lancashire cheese is my favourite. I think you would love Lincolnshire Poacher it is a beautiful cheese also you might like a cheese called stinking bishop which is a washed rind cheese soaked in a juice made from a smelly pear called stinking bishop. English muffins in the uk have NO holes. It is more of a bun.
Your english muffins have no holes?!? No nooks and crannies?! I did find the crumpets to be more rubbery and even hole-ier than the english muffins here. The texture reminded me a bit of yorkshire pudding. ❤Jess
@@BigJonTV English Muffins are pretty much an American thing. UK muffins are a firm dense bread. Occasionally you'll find American English muffins over here, but we call them American muffins!
When you have scones have them fresh and warm from the oven, then jam first with whipped thick double cream on top (the jam helps to stop the cream melting) then put the top on, serve with proper English tea.
Hi. Leicester is pronounced like the name Lester. It's widely available as red Leicester and is a great cheese for grilling and cooking. Lots of it sold as milder, value type cheese too. If you ever see it at a food fair, Cornish Cheddar is divine with the salt crystals that form naturally in it.
Oh, put the butter on warm/hot crumpets. We put them in the toaster twice. Well done for trying those cheeses. We have over 700 different cheeses in the UK, Cream first for me then blob of jam on top.
Red Lessterr is how its pronounced. I love Wensleydale and Caerphilly cheeses too. We produce hundreds of types. You should try and get a few more i think the problem is a lot of British cheeses are unpasteurized and the US food authorities tend to seize them. Definitely try wensleydale if you can though.
I do think we were able to try a wensleydale cheese at the food show...but no one offered to send us home with any! Lol I think we will need to find a good specialty cheese shop to feed our UK cheese cravings! ❤Jess
I think you should try White Stilton, or if your tastes can stand it, Blue Stilton. It is far better than Danish Blue from the European mainland. (I was weaned on Danish Blue - first solids I ever had) The above cheeses are all made from Cow's milk. The only European Cheese which comes near Blue Stilton is St Agur which is made from Sheep's milk in central France, even though wikipedia says it is made from Cow's milk. If you are going to cook with British Cheese, I would reccomend Red Leicester of any make because it will melt quicker than any cheddared cheese. It also has a lot of Anatto which is the colour and this will colour your cheese sauce beautifully.
If its not going in a scone for a cream tea then clotted cream is best used in the creation of ice cream. Look out for some Cornish ice cream that has clotted cream in it, it really takes ice cream to a new level
Want to try a great but SO smelly cheese from my part of England try Stinking Bishop - its gorgeous but the smell...i had some in my bag on way home on bus and had to expl ain the smell to the other pe ople because i was getting some very weird looks 😱
There’s a site in the uk Called pong cheese, that’s where I got stinking bishop from. I came home from work, opened the outer door of my porch, and I immediately knew the cheese had been delivered
Toast your crumpet then butter & add some strong cheddar and stick under grill till it melts = amazing. I sprinkle garlic powder or spread some marmite on top for added amazingness 😁
Clotted cream is basically cream that has been cooked, home made stuff does take 2 days to make but tastes amazing. We have three main scones, plain, fruit and cheese and (surprise surprise) cheese is my favourite mmmmmm. English muffins and crumpets are nothing alike :P the muffins tend to be more bread like in texture where as the crumpets as you might of noticed are almost rubbery in texture and the best way imo to eat a crumpet is toasted with a large knob of butter on it and thats it mmmmmmmmm. Don't get me started on cheese as I am a cheese addict and it would be quicker to list the cheese I don't like rather than the ones I do lol. If you do make a mac cheese with the cheddar please do it the full on white sauce method, trust me it will be worth the effort (and is the only way I ever make it lol) . I definitely agree with Jess as to the crystals in cheese, I do love a good sharp cheddar which tends to have more of the crystallised bits in it. Can you tell I loved the video though as you woke my effusive diatribe about cheese lol.
@Ian Stevenson You have basically described my whole method of cooking mac and cheese, the only thing I don't do is the breadcrumb and just use grated cheddar on top :)
I like clotted cream on fresh strawberries and on sticky toffee pudding. I take my scones with butter, then jam followed by the clotted cream. Depending whether your from Devon or Cornwall will usually change the order of the jam and cream on the scone. I Love cheese scones with a ham salad, as you like cheeses I think you too would like them. Love how your kids were willing to try the different foods 😊
And I was walking my dogs through Delemere forest the week before Xmas. Lovely place. 45mins from my house. Your ment to cook the crumpet in the toaster. Then let the butter melt in to a slightly crisp crumpet.
Leicester (e after the c means a soft c) and double Gloucester I usually only use melted, especially the cheaper versions. The technique for making clotted cream seems to have been brought to Cornwall about 3,000 years ago by the Phoenicians when they came to trade for tin.
Pro tip, toast crumpits and scones, they are going to be way more palatable. also we cook or shallow fry black pudding if you ever try that. also check out Marmite cheese, I make no apologies for the faces you'll pull if you try it.
Its great to see our cousins across the pond now have access to our fine cheeses. When I worked and lived in Florida many years ago the cheeses were awful, burger cheese, cheese in an aerosol can and a bit of import edam was about you lot twenty years ago. Hopefully your taste buds have been suitably stimulated to dive deeper into the world of English cheeses, probably some of the best in the world.
Crumpets need to be sprinkled with some granulated sugar and buttered when warm 🌈and warm your scones for a few seconds in the microwave and dollop the clotted cream on next time & try some hot cross buns toasted with butter on to 🍀
What a sweet family . Jay in the UK can I apologise for the bossy people telling you what to do ....I'm pretty sure you know what to do with cheese lol....Guinness cheese is a gimmick so I apologise for that lol.
I dont think we were fully prepared for the controversy we'd start with things like, "Lester" or cream then jam, or not toasting the crumpet enough, haha. We appreciate the support! Thanks! 😂👍

Stilton cheese is a strong blue cheese which is nice and creamy Lancashire cheese from my home county is great on a sandwich with Branston pickle or Piccalilli.
Actually, it is just Red Leicester, not Leicestershire. Pronounced Lesta. Leicester is where, a few years ago, they discovered King Richard III s bones under a car park! He died in a battle in Bosworth, which is near me, and after an argument with Leeds, where he was born, he was incarcerated in Leicester cathedral.
Toast the crumpets to a nice golden brown and when you spread the butter you should be able to hear the knife going across the crumpet then put plain cheddar on it then place under the grill and let the cheese melt "delicious" breakfast
The only way I would use clotted cream is on scones with jam, strawberries and cream is like a typical British summer snack/dessert but I’d prefer whipped cream or runny single cream with them than clotted cream

Yes. although do be careful about which way round (cream first then jam, or jam first then cream).
that alone could start a war in some parts of Britain!!
We do! 2 halves = more cream and jam! Though I do jam first THEN cream
I@@gobbyhobbit1979 I'm from the East Midlands so to keep the peace I do one half jam first and the other cream first Ha Ha.

Your kids are fabulous, love that they are not afraid of trying new foods Shows you are doing a great job of bringing up your children.
clotted cream goes great with mince pies
@@conjecture. Thanks, its my favourite TV show. Yeah I know they don't have mince pies but I saw one of their videos from a month ago just after new year and they had some so I thought they would know what I was talking about.
The best cheddar comes from the town of Cheddar, there is a cave system there that was used to store and mature the cheese and the caves are still used today in the production of proper cheddar cheese. Also the gorge and cave system at Cheddar are fantastic to explore and walk around. A great day out for sure.
Dude your kids are so smart for there age i love it , the next generation will do things we couldnt imagine!!
Thank you very much!
Can you tell he loves cheese? His breakfast today was a couple sausage and a hunk of cheese! Lol ❤Jess
Cream & Jam scones served with tea is called and advertised as a 'Cream Tea'. A popular between meal treat in cafes in the summer. Historical treat that goes back to the Victorian period.
The fox brand is pronounced “lester” it’s a county in the English Midlands
Clotted cream is delicious on apple pie. Also in parts of the uk we say, apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze.
Vicky Taylor which part of the UK are you from? I’m from Northants and have never heard that saying.
I've never heard that. Why would you have cheese with apple pie? That's weird.
Wendledale cheese goes with apple pie and also cake.
why the hell would ya put cheese on a apple pie thats so wrong
Cheese on apple pie is an american thing. I've never seen it in britain.
Trouble with that jar of cream is, you can't get a gert dollop out!
Thanks! This one definitely sat too long before eating! We treated the rest of the package better!

Rats are great pets, I've had a dozen or so over the years. They're social animals so it's better to have two or three, that way they can keep themselves company when there's no humans to play with.
We are hoping to rescue another soon! We were gifted a HUGE cage so we have plenty of space. ❤Jess
Yum!
Crumpets and what you would call "English" muffins are absolutely NOT the same.
Great video.
Interesting! Thanks for the info ❤Jess
@@BigJonTV "Americans try UK biscuits" needs to be done now! Rich Tea, Custard Creams, Ginger Nuts, Chocolate Digestives, and of course the mighty Hob Nob.
An American biscuit is merely a cheese scone.
Do you find that Lancashire and Cheshire cheese tastes the same? Or is it just the ones in the supermarket that do? I love crumbly cheese.
Your english muffins have no holes?!? No nooks and crannies?! I did find the crumpets to be more rubbery and even hole-ier than the english muffins here. The texture reminded me a bit of yorkshire pudding. ❤Jess
@@BigJonTV Nope, no holes. They're sort of like bread buns, but denser.
You think these cheeses stink? You should try Stinking Bishop. It's a creamy cheese and is well named.
Cheshire cheese 🧀 is my favourite, especially on Staffordshire Oatcakes & On toast
Savoury cheese scones with butter are delicious too especially if you add a pinch of English mustard powder when you add the cheese that is delicious.
Thank you for listening to my request. I means a lot to me.
Hey no problem! Thanks for such a tasty request! ❤Jess
Oh, put the butter on warm/hot crumpets. We put them in the toaster twice. Well done for trying those cheeses. We have over 700 different cheeses in the UK,
Cream first for me then blob of jam on top.
❤Jess
@@BigJonTV if you like crunchy cheeses Caerphilly is very hard. Its a Welsh variety. Amazing with pickled onions and a nice pork pie!
My favs red lester with cheese and chives lol
I think you should try White Stilton, or if your tastes can stand it, Blue Stilton. It is far better than Danish Blue from the European mainland. (I was weaned on Danish Blue - first solids I ever had)
The above cheeses are all made from Cow's milk.
Everytime i watch a somebody tries british food im screaming at my screen , NOOO THOSE CRUMPETS NEED TO BE TOASTED!!!!
They were toasted, just not long enough. We've since learned the proper method. Thanks for watching!
we in the uk have hundreds of cheese. i love all uk cheese glad you like them.
Cheddar cheese is great on a burger with fried onions. And it's pronounced Lester-shere. Great video.
It's actually just Lester, Leicestershire is the name of the county.
We've heard about this cheese! We are on the hunt for it! ❤Jess
Heather trott eastenders lol
There’s a site in the uk Called pong cheese, that’s where I got stinking bishop from. I came home from work, opened the outer door of my porch, and I immediately knew the cheese had been delivered
Toast your crumpet then butter & add some strong cheddar and stick under grill till it melts = amazing. I sprinkle garlic powder or spread some marmite on top for added amazingness 😁
@AJ I often use Bovril instead of Marmite, it makes a great sandwich spread 😀
Hunnie, Max and their Human Too
“Cornish Cruncher” is my favourite cheddar. Get it at M&S in the UK.
@@BlueShadow777 I just cant choose a favourite, though the smellier and stronger it is the happier I get lol
The Leicester one is pronounced Lester
Oh our family would love doing a cheese unboxing and tasting. Yes. Thanks for the fun
The way to pronounce Leicester is Lester yeah I know but that's how you say it !
😃 thanks!
no tops on the scone when you eat them, they serve them open (two halves)
Never heard of any of those brands.
collier is a welsh farmhouse cheese
And I was walking my dogs through Delemere forest the week before Xmas. Lovely place. 45mins from my house.
Your ment to cook the crumpet in the toaster. Then let the butter melt in to a slightly crisp crumpet.
Cheese should always be "Extra mature" at home we call it "Rat Trap"
Agreed, other cheeses are not worth my time
Goats butter and crumpets are perfect together but make sure the crumpets are toasted crispy and the butter spread whilst they are hot. Nice video.
Clotted cream on sticky toffee pudding mmmmmmm
Leicester (e after the c means a soft c) and double Gloucester I usually only use melted, especially the cheaper versions. The technique for making clotted cream seems to have been brought to Cornwall about 3,000 years ago by the Phoenicians when they came to trade for tin.
It’s said lester but spelt Leicester.
warm scone, rasberry or strawberry jam and clotted cream equals a Cornish tea. in devon they put the cream on first
Awww she is a super cute rat and a cool name
Hope you try the crumpets again. Toast for longer and spread with lashings of butter. Hot crumpets with melted butter are to die for.....
Leicester is pronounced Lester. And Knutsford is pronounced Nutsford. :)
Pro tip, toast crumpits and scones, they are going to be way more palatable. also we cook or shallow fry black pudding if you ever try that.
also check out Marmite cheese, I make no apologies for the faces you'll pull if you try it.
Leicester is pronounced "Lester"
Its great to see our cousins across the pond now have access to our fine cheeses. When I worked and lived in Florida many years ago the cheeses were awful, burger cheese, cheese in an aerosol can and a bit of import edam was about you lot twenty years ago. Hopefully your taste buds have been suitably stimulated to dive deeper into the world of English cheeses, probably some of the best in the world.
Leicester pronounced Lester
Terry Rocker Lestersheer
and Howard is pronounced "Id-e-ot"
Thanks! 😂👍
I agree, the amount of comments about them pronouncing the cheese wrong was ridiculous. Lol.
@@BigJonTV - I envy that you are tasting these cheeses for the first time. Those taste sensations are a fabulous revelation. It's a pity that so many old-time products are no longer stocked by the big grocery stores; they are so full of real flavour. Too many preservatives and additives in store food.
Great vid guys. A favourite cheese of mine you should try is Wensleydale 👌Cream first/ jam on top - on a plain scone👍🏼
Great video. Yes, crumpets need to be eaten straight from the toaster with lashings of butter...cracking! Cheers all!
Scottish and Irish cheddar 😂 (fraudsters).the south west of England make the best dairy products.serve yr scones cut in half . Yr son loved the real cheddar :)
Stilton cheese is a strong blue cheese which is nice and creamy Lancashire cheese from my home county is great on a sandwich with Branston pickle or Piccalilli.
You guys ought to have glasses of water to clean the palate between tastings of different produce. Otherwise you’re cross-contaminating tastes.
Good point!
@@BigJonTV 👍🏻
Crumpets should be toasted until browned and while hot smothered in butter and eaten hot - they are totally different cold
Did you mean Leicestershire cheese? It is pronounced lestershr cheese.
It was Leicester, so how do we say that? ❤Jess
Toast the crumpets to a nice golden brown and when you spread the butter you should be able to hear the knife going across the crumpet then put plain cheddar on it then place under the grill and let the cheese melt "delicious" breakfast
Leicester (pronounced) = "Lester"
As an addendum for the future, just in case you come across Worcestershire sauce pronounced = "Wooster Sauce".
Leicester is pronounced pa ki Stan
I think crumpets are like really thick pan cakes. They need to be toasted on both sides so they are deep golden brown and crispy. Good job guys.
Thanks!
Your daughter is far clever than your son.
The only way I would use clotted cream is on scones with jam, strawberries and cream is like a typical British summer snack/dessert but I’d prefer whipped cream or runny single cream with them than clotted cream
