    I use Fivestars' Powdered Brewery wash myself. You take about a tablespoon worth and add it to hot water, stir it up really good and let sit for about 10 minutes or longer if the fermentor is extremely then you rinse it out with hot water and use starsan no rinse sanitizer and you are ready t go for the next batch.

    This is just an idea George, but if you want to illustrate to people visually you could use some dry ice in a bucket of water. It will show them how a layer of CO2 forms on top the mash. I know some people can understand easier when they can see it.

    Oxy Clean works good as well on glass, plastic, and stainless but a little bit more expensive. But always rinse and sanitize fermenters and equipment after soaking. #HappyDistilling

    I do not use dish soap on plastic fermenter it can leave residue in the plastic. especially if you scrub it with anything other than a soft cloth.

    For the 551 is it just standard 3% Hydrogen Peroxide? and where can you get the Citric Acid?

    • @georgewilson60
      @georgewilson60 4 роки тому +1

      Yes it’s just standard 3% peroxide. I get my citric acid on amazon in 1lb or 5lb bags, but some grocery stores will carry it in the canning section.

      Chuck Naturale and if you buy two, neither one of them will break. Murphy’s Law for the home distiller. I have learned this lesson the hard way. Another good tip; don’t ever rinse your hydrometer or proof and tralle hydrometer under real hot water in your kitchen sink. You will break your hydrometer. I found that out the hard way too.

    I have a t500 reflux still. I enjoy the ease of full reflux so that I don’t have to make cuts, just discard the first 75 ml. I usually do a sugar wash then flavour and age. Is there a way for me to make this vodka with my still without having to do cuts and still maintain flavour. The still normally produces an neutral flavoured spirit

    • @chucknaturale307
      @chucknaturale307 4 роки тому

      You can remove the packing from your column for less reflux and it will carry over more flavor at a lesser proof then the normal 185.

    • @fraserhardmetal7143
      @fraserhardmetal7143 4 роки тому

      Just up the temperature - lower the water flow. This will lower the reflux and carry over more of the fermentate flavour - hopefully - suck it and see - nothing is carved in stone as we all know !

    • @rocketsroc
      @rocketsroc 4 роки тому +1

      The very purpose of a reflux is to remove flavors and increase proof. This produces a neutral spirit...Vodka. If you want more flavor, change the column by removing the packings and do not use the upper internal condenser, just the external condenser. This in effect converts the T-500 into a pot still which will yield more flavor but at lower proof, somewhere around 140-160. One note here, no matter the still, flavor is never going to be very great right out of the still. Most flavors come from aging or adding flavor essences.

    • @fraserhardmetal7143
      @fraserhardmetal7143 4 роки тому

      @@rocketsroc Agree with you on that - I have the same still but just playing with the temperature varies the distillate flavour even with all the packings in place - this obviously depends on the fermentate - it's remarkable what a few degrees difference has on the outcome . Just shows how good the equipment is when you can tweak it within these fine limits.
