Thank you. Try Cansón Montval. It’s a bit nicer than XL. Canson also has a 100% cotton paper that’s very nice. I’ve never bought it on a block, but I’ve liked it on a pad. Thanks again. Great, great video.
You're so welcome, and thank you for the info. I will give the Montval a try. I've seen their 100%, but have not tried it either. So glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
So glad you are finding helpful info. here! I completely understand. Just remember that if you have a problem that isn't getting better with practice, it could be your paper. Try a different brand, or if possible get a small pad of 100% cotton, just to see if the problem goes away. Happy painting and thanks for watching!
I love this comparison. I am new to watercolour so this video is very helpful. Thank you. PS. I discovered your channel a few days ago and I love everything you showed.
Thank you so much!! And welcome to the channel!! I'm thrilled you are enjoying it. 😍 I've ordered more paper, so I'll likely do another with different brands soon. 😃
You're so welcome! Right after I finished filming this video I ordered the Baohong. It won't be here for a few more days. Glad to hear you like it. I'll order the Meeden as well. I feel another paper video coming on --- 😂. Thanks so much for the recommendations!
You did a really good review. I appreciate the extra off-screen time you spent testing out all of the papers, it is really the only way to truly know how each paper will perform consistently. What about Arches? Not sure it comes in a brighter white, or how it compares to Saunders when it comes to warping because I have never used Saunders paper. But every time I have priced the Saunders 100% cotton paper it is always more expensive than Arches, even when it is on sale. I use cheaper 100% cotton paper for practice, like Bee paper from Amazon in a loose leaf form, or my Paul Ruben leather watercolor journal with 100% cotton paper, or a block of Bahong 100% cotton watercolor paper. But for finished pieces I always use Arches 100% cotton 140 lb. cold press watercolor block. I think I paid $19.99 for my last Arches block in a 9x12 size, but I think it only has 12 sheets. They actually have that same 9x12 Arches block for $19.89 on sale at Jerry's Artarama and I believe they ship worldwide.
Thank you so much. I tried Arches years ago when I was first starting out and did not like it. I don't remember why, but I'm confident my inexperience at the time likely had something to do with it. I know a lot of artists love it, so I really do need to try it again. I did another review after this one (ua-cam.com/video/Hp5TQO9jW-k/v-deo.html) and found that Baohong/Meeden work really well for me. At the time, I was not sure if the companies are related, but I now have a relationship with Meeden and yes, they are related. They are sponsoring one of my upcoming review videos. They are now my go-to paper. I will give Arches another try though. Thanks for your comment!
For the most part, the real test of paper is how much abuse it can take before it breaks down. Layer, layer, layer, layer, layer, reductive painting, layer. I suspect that paper that warps will likely also break down at about layer 5 or so. Thus Sanders and Legion. My analysis came in as such: Artbeek: 30 sheets: $20: This one 9x12 only! (Amazon) price per sheet: $0.67 [ 9 ] Stonehenge Legion: 15 sheets: $19: (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.26 [ 6 ] Meeden: 20 sheets: $33 (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.65 [ 7 ] Kilimanjaro: 20 sheets: $35: (Cheap Joe) price per sheet: $1.75 [ 8 ] New York Central: 20 sheets: $36 (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.80 [ 5 ] Baohong: 20 sheets: $47 (Blick Art) price per sheet: $2.35 [ 3 ] Saunders: 20 sheets: $48 (Amazon) price per sheet: $2.40 [ 1 ] Fabriano: 20 sheets: $52 (Blick Art) price per sheet: $2.60 [ 4 ] Arches: 12 sheets: $33 (Amazon) price per sheet: $2.75 [ 2 ]

Very helpful. I’m not yet using 100% cotton because I’m definitely a beginner but I enjoy learning from you pros❣️

Saunders and Waterford has a High White paper you might want to try.
Excellent. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
I do like Cheap Joes and Saunders but I use for the most part Blick Premier 100 percent cotton
I have not used that one. I'll give it a try. Thanks. My fave is now Meeden/Baohong. I've been using it for about a year now and love it.
Thank You for the comparison! I'd highly recommend the Meeden and/or Baohong brand!

FWIW - FYI - Kilimanjaro is Cheap Joe's own house brand, so you won't find it anywhere else.
Ah, that explains it! 😆 Thanks for the info.!
