- The other day someone asked whats the difference between SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO, so I thought I would put a video together :D

I like the start stop feature and I stay in eco most of the time. I love it when the plus blue indicator displays the save gas mileage. I got up to +20 mpg on it once. Thanks for sharing.
Rex Maverick cheers for the comment! I like eco pro mode too, but as I don’t drive much, driving in eco mode isn’t the best for me :) I need to drive it harder to help keep my injectors clean. Fuel in russia isn’t as nice as the fuel back home in England :)

Thank you for the kind comment! It is surprising how little, people know about their cars. I have a friend in Cyprus, who has a 8th generation Civic. She has owned the car for many years, and she took me for a drive in it, but explained that her brakes felt awful. Anyway, when I jumped into the car at night, i noticed how dim the instrument cluster was, so I turned up the brightness. She was shocked and had no idea,that the brightness could be adjusted, saying she struggled to see the dials at night :D
I have a 116d sport and eco pro and sport mode barely make a difference in fuel consumption. The best way to drive efficiently is controlling that right foot.
in Sport mode the start-stop still works, at least in my 125i with M pack which has another, Sport+ mode
PS to disable traction control completely, hold the ESC button for 5 seconds and enjoy the fun ;)
Interesting - in F30 LCI 320d, selecting Sport disables Start/stop
I have a BMW 116i at 200bhp and sport + really allows the car to fly
I wish I had that kind of performance from mine :)
I came to this video because i today realised, the steering ans suspension became harder in sport mode lol. Great video

I want to correct you on one part. Your suspenion will only get firmer when you have the adaptive dampers. The stock dampers will stay the same

Never seen a F20/21 without navigation from the factory? i cant figure out what the difference is between the business nav and the other business nav. one has a plastic surrounding and the other has a shiny surrounding? I have the professional in my F21 tho. Do you know?

Hi Matthew i got BMW 5 series F10 I always drive in a eco mode to save fuel. Please tell me is that not going harm my car for long turm.
LIE AND REALITY I wouldn’t like to say :) but I recommend giving the car a good quick drive to help the car its throat. That’s what’s my dealer told me, after my injectors on my 38k Kim’s f20 were dirty.
In my opinion, the coasting function does the torque converter no favours by disengaging and reengaging it. Others may disagree but it certainly cannot help matters. The start stop function does increase wear and tear on various components namely the timing chain and is a false economy long term. An idling car uses half a litre of fuel per hour so although it cleans up the air in cities, financially it has no real benefit
Hey Matthew, great video. I have the sport model and it has sports+. It disables traction control. I thought sports+ was available on all models. I guess BMW did this because the base models have narrow tires.

@@mattsbeamer Sports+ just makes more noise and you not really going much faster. I only used it once and figured it's pointless on this 1.6 turbo. You not missing anything. Sports is perfect. I also use sports to cool the car a bit in idle before switch off. The cooling system is setup to lower the temps in sport, but I'm not sure if this works.

Alain Sfar thank you Alain :) the eco mode in the manual car, controls the sensitivity of the throttle. The car was accelerate slower, and will act smoother when you adjust the pedal. The way the car drives will make you more relaxed and will entice you to drive more peacefully :) some BMWs may have a optimum shift indicator which tells you when to change gear etc :) take care :)
Could we get some pro’s and con’s of each mode please?

Great video Matthew learned more information on that eco - sport system. I have a quick question, I have a 114i Sport (2012), I think my engine has a cold start problem when I turn on the engine, it makes more sound from engine, after 2mins it works fine. Do you have any suggestions? P.S keep up the great videos.
Steven Cassidy. Hey, thank you :) The car that you have also had the N13 engine. Quite a lot of people have mentioned an issue with the waste gate, with creates the sound (which sounds like a loose exhaust heat shield in my opinion) . My car made this noise when I first bought it. Thou some people have said this sound is not long at all. What kind of sound is it making?

mattsbeamer It makes a loud start which sounds like it revs up for few seconds as if your reving the engine but obviously not using the acceleration pedal. I brought the 114i last year in May from a popular local car dealership which they cant detect the problem before selling. Sorry I can’t give a better explanation and understanding hope it makes sense.
Eco. Pro is good, but it doesn't tell you the range you have left until you run out of fuel.
On my F20 I just klick on the top of the turn indicator lever to switch which info that’s shown on the display. I believe you can also see that info if you go to vehicle information and choose journey computer

Dom Chinaski hey, too be honnest it’s been great, but that’s due to the studded tyres. You just need to be smooth with the actions , or you end up drifting. Ice is the pain thou, if it rains and suddenly freezes then you will struggle in any car :).

I have a 116i (UK) and my 1 series just drinks gas in Eco mode. Was on 127mls on leaving home, 2mins down the road and it's on 115mls.

I don't use it anymore. Much better in comfort, fuel seems more realife...

Hello :) I believe this is possible, but it needs to be coded, to be started in your desired mode.
One thing. Are the 0-60 times the same across all modes?

Good day, I recently purchased a used/damage 2017 BMW 118i from Japan and shipped it to the Caribbean. The radio is not working because the radio and GPS is set to the japan region. The system is a "NBT EVO ID5 + Vim". I have changes the language to English etc, but how do you change the radio to a different region using the iDrive controller?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Angela Winter-Jones hello Angela. Thank you for the question, to be honest I’m not to sure. I would think the newer BMWs all need coding to the new region. I’m sorry I’m not much use today.

I have a 116d sport manual gearbox and that has sport+ its a strange car as its not a msport its just a sport.
last thing you want to do is take traction off in snow or rain like in the video haha.

This has to be the most poverty spec car I’ve seen ever, how do u not even have a screen ahahhahahahahahahahahahw
Haha :D, yes it probably is lol. The reason I picked this car is because it was owned by my wife’s friend, and was looked after while in her ownership my a good friend at my local dealership. It’s very hard to find a good condition car in Russia, especially in the condition of mine. Many of them have been accidents, been nicked etc (even if new).
In russia they didn’t get the idrive as standard, like they do in my home country (Uk). But there are many good things about having a very basic car in russia. No one will break in to steel my I drive (which I know is common back home in England). If I don’t drive it much the battery will still be ok, and it’s 7 years old.
Saying that thou I’d love an idrive car, and if I stay in Russia we will get a newer bmw like a x3, x5, 5 or 7 drive, so that should have idrive (i hope :D)
