    There are some people that don’t understand why the uniform is the way it is, it’s not for show it’s traditional as I was in the light infantry. And I understand why they have the plume and the uniform the way it is.

    Love the drill ! old style! Arms shoulder high , the double immaculate and not a hint of a bum note, whoever those lads are in the bugles? They are the BEST I've ever seen

      My dude. You might be referencing the 60th Rifles who were the 60th Royal American Regiment ( originally 62nd).
      The German and Swiss jaegers were seem as experts in woodcraft and therefore ideal fighting in woodland with their green clothing and rifles.
      The regiment fought in the French Indian War and included troops wjo were British and Irish, British American, Swiss and German.
      The Swiss Henry Bouquet mat be the best known. The regiment saw service in the Revolution and Napoleonic Wars.
      Americans continued to fight in the Rifles after Independence and the best known may be Lt James Gairdner.

    Never been a fan of military bands looking like some American show troupe; I think it demeans them. I suspect it is because Tattoo audiences have to be "entertained"; or so the organisers/bands, think. Just listening to the music and watching a band march isn't enough, sadly.
    Respect is due for the high standard, of course. Can never take that away from the guys.

      The Light Division a light infantry division of the British Army formed in the early 19th Century. It can trace its origins to the Light Companies which had been formed to move at speed over inhospitable terrain and protect the main forces by skirmishing tactics. They have always marched at this pace and The display done here is in no way demeaning or done purely for entertainment value on the contrary it shows off the great stamina and skill required to march at that pace and still play a musical instrument. I am sure they are more than happy and very proud to show off those skills to the public in this manner.

    • @gavsky23
      @gavsky23 10 років тому +2

      ***** You make excellent points and I was aware of the Light Infantry pace being different - that wasn't the issue. It's the whole Sabre Dance section that irked me somewhat, that tips-over into territory that I don't enjoy (although still showing stamina and coordination). I know lots of military bands do all-sorts of displays that are similar, but I felt that section was less than martial, and reminded me too much of a US college band.

    • @happyme315
      @happyme315 8 років тому +1

      gavsky23 that is the regiments marching pace the Light drill of both the Royal Green Jackets and Light Infantey 140 paces to a minute and not 120 like heavy drill of the Guards etc. As for display it a show if skill discipline and pride in the Regiment. Hate to be that guy but Americans can only hope to have the tradition and history of the Light Division
