    I think the reason I fell in love with golf is the fact that everyone can do something completely different and get the same outcome. It’s absolutely crazy how many different shots and clubs u can use to get to the same place

    I think I have a pretty good short game and understand a lot about lies and different shots, but then I see something like this and realize I know next to nothing. Thank you 🐐 and Colin (future baby goat)

      No doubt… the simple fact that tiger was able to create two wedges to play virtually anywhere in the world, should tell you all you need to know about his knowledge of the short game

      there is at least one important exception: at the 2005 Masters, Steve said that for that specific chip on 16, they were looking at the spot where Davis Love had hit his chip, and Steve said it was about the size of a quarter.

      A lot of players actually got their own design. Tigers are called P7TW, with a 7i loft of 35. Rory's are called RorsProto I think, DJ's are called DJ Proto. Pretty sure Colin also got ones called P7CM. The only difference, other that the obvious grinds, lofts and what not, designed specifically for each player, are Tiger's can be bought by anyone.

    Mr. Woods, I know you are not the biggest UA-cam fan, but these more intimate videos are amazing for weekend warriors. This gives us the incite we never really have had before, allowing us to peek into the mind of greats like you and Mr. Morikawa, etc... I have used these to work on different aspects of my game when I go to the range. So, thank you. Thank you for continuing this, even though we know it is likely contract initiated. Just know we love this!

    It’s great to see Mr. Woods pay homage to the game’s past legends and teachers. The best player ever now passes along the knowledge he’s acquired and gives them the respect and credit they deserve. He could easily pass these ideas along as his own and take credit but he does the opposite. Being a great listener and soaking in the knowledge has served him well. True greatness.

    Nobody encourages/preaches practicing from bad lies but I think it’s the best and the least emphasized lesson you could ever learn in golf. Great video.

      Definitely. However, if you can't get the plain vanilla "stock" shot right, then practicing bad lies will be of no benefit.

    It is so amazing hearing all the science behind these shots. Half of the time I worry not to skull the ball across the green to the next pond or bunker, just to see my wedge go on a discovery trip to Australia instead for a change. Note to myself: chipping training only this year. Period.

    It’s amazing how super small adjustments throughout a round to make a slightly better read add up through a round, week month. gaining fractions of strokes each chip but thinking through shots like this can save you many strokes throughout a year. Especially at that level every nuance makes a difference. The difference between a 71 and a 69

      He got that from Raymond Floyd. Raymond used that setup almost exclusively along with drawing almost everything. Take note of how Tiger through years tried to pick the brains of great players in areas he needed to improve. Taking what worked for him and incorporating it.

    Very cool conversation. Old school and new school approaches. Both work, but sometimes one works better than the other depending on the lie and objective for landing the ball. TW's ability to work the ball in the short game is a nice skill to have. Collin's ability to flop'em in there is pretty wild.

    This is the type of nuanced content we need much more of - most just talk about mechanics on standard lies on nice courses. Try playing a muni and see how many 'standard' lies you get - a couple a round perhaps? Also listening to Tiger's philosophy is really insightful - there's a reason why he's doing everything.

    I like how tiger said chipping around the green is like a putter motion. Every time I chip like I'm imagining I'm putting and drag the wedge along the grass back then hit it through impact like a putt. I never duff and hit solid chips everytime. Try it. It works.

    Tiger looking more fit. All the chipping ideas he has makes me practice30 yards and in more then going to the range. Miss the old balata balls 20 to 30 feet of spin was crazy fun.

    I play in the Northeast. No Bermuda here. Lots of tight lies around the green. Would love to know how to contact the ball when there's no turf under the ball.

      I just use a narrow stance, ball off trail foot, slight rotation and wrist hinge to get the ball up and hopefully land it soft. Depending on the distance I need to clear I’ll use either my 60 or 54 and take those clubs back to varying distances again depending on my target. But I never grip down or open the clubface otherwise that brings in more variables than I need.
