“You can’t keep a secret from the building that you keep it in” is such a good little snippet.
From what I know of the game, the Landlord isn't necessarily "evil." The mole thing is his job, and it's what he's paid to do. He can be lenient, but if he is, he'll be fined, and possibly killed. Also there are expenses that must be paid, otherwise your family members die.
True, but Stupendium went full evil for this song, as they do.
Yeah, from the video description, you can try to balance protecting your family by appeasing the ministry and protecting your tenants - or, you can go full evil, which is what Stupes obviously did for this song😂
Первые две части выпускали Русские и делали 3 скатилась
No necessarily paid, he was framed for being a traitor and had to sign a contract to work as a mole, or end up being sent to jail/killed
Indeed. It's very Papers Please. As the video shows, he's being watched too. But, that said...Stupes take on the character is clearly very much someone who...ENJOYS his work.
I love the part were he goes "your paranoia is awfuly boring, at least according to your friends that talks to me"
Perfect way to play upp the paranoia of someone even more XD
they go by they/them if you still don’t know :)
@@yourmother6233 i have gotten the message. But thanks for the info ^^
I’m a native English speaker, but still miss a lot of idioms and such since I hardly use any, so these breakdowns help English speakers too!
I’m sure someone already pointed these out, but near the beginning, they mentioned the apartment having a splendid view (a brick wall), and at the end they say “they’re here” in reference to the Ministry working in a pyramid structure (the lower moles are being watched by their superiors)
"It's just a little gaslighting"
I am at a loss for words
It's such a simple play on words but it works so well
No one really sets the tone quite like Stupendium. Also, given that I work with the access, preservation and collection of government documents this one hits close to home. Glory to the ministry!
I think you've done most of their songs now but I would still like it if you would watch their Aftermath song. It's one I think is often overlooked which is a shame.
I second this one! Great flow, and some really nice lyricism
...I mean at this point, no one would be surprised
Third-ed. You have no idea it's gonna hit so hard, and then, boom. Also because it's got those Weird-Al-feels at the start.
Also, Stupes in a (British, I'll guess) primary student outfit. XD
Plus the continuity in that one
Glory to the ministry!
Aftermath? Is that the name of the song, or the name of the game? Edit: excuse the pun.
18:23 Ian, that's where you're wrong, the flip on "no one's home" WAS in the first chorus, you just managed to miss it.
ok, so i consider myself a fairly good "rapper" in the sense that i can move my mouth fast enough to say the words on time. the vast majority of stupendium songs, this one especially, trip me up repeatedly. ive been trying for a year and i still cant do vending machine of love. how do they do this just about every time?!?! must be witchcraft
I manage to follow along, after a day or two practicing a single song
I can do Ad Infinitum (minus the spots where it cuts out his pauses for breath), even the full "gotta have it", with or without the song playing, but I also spent a week or so listening to only that and singing it nonstop during that time
I've noticed with Rustage and Dan Bull that the accent helps pronunciation on certain ryhme schemes
@@BreakerX42 you try singing a song without an accent, it's impossible
@@insanity5764 I meant their specific British accent help pull off .certain rhyme schemes. Look at Dan Bull, half of his songs would not sound as good if it wasn't him making it
When you play this game you can kind of go nice and try to save everyone, you can balance, it, or you can go stupes route, because of course stupes went with the MWAHAHA route.
I believe the word you couldn't make out was "They're here." Implying the ministry has come to take someone away
Or that he knows they're watching
@@randomcake1435 i think, as per the final secons in the video, that he himself is being watched, and probably also taken... maybe the ministry didnt like his tendency to forget things as his wallet gets thicker
It does not matter if you have not played, or even heard about, the game Stupendium makes a video on. The songs are always great. I've never played Poppy Playtime, but I've had the song Stupendium made about it stuck in my head since I first listened to it. Never played Beholder 3 or the other two that apparently exist, but I still love this song. They're always amazing.
Glory to the Ministry! Hail Sithis! Other things. I just really like worshipping things. Mostly things people see as evil. Sithis isn't evil. But it's a cult. And I do love me some cults.
With this you really don’t need to know about the game I’d say a half knowing glance at 1984 gives you the basics
Actually at first I though it was based on that book since I’ve never heard of it and still not knowing what it is I can only assume it’s a Lucas pope since from what I’ve gathered it has the underlining context of papers please and the stalk colouration (though in red instead of b,ack) of the return of the obra din
"now were crawling out the toybox, now were crawling out the toybo0ox"
Glory to the ministry!
That last segment there reminded me it's been a while since I played a call of cthulu game.
glad I'm not the only one who likes the worshipping words like "Glory to the Ministry!" or "Glory to Arstotzka!" xD
15:48 Oh my god, yes! Russian viewer here. I've always been fascinated by Stupendium's vocabulary and word flips. But sometimes it's hard to spot the wordplay, double meanings, etc, so explanation of those things is really appreciated. Thanks for that.
Edit: 18:20 It *was* in the first hook, actually. I know Stupendium's affinity of dynamic hooks. Not this time.
@Pedro De Carvalho Mendes Pereira I'm fine, thanks for your worries. The only thing that affects me directly is sites blocked by idiots in Roskomnadzor. I have use VPN constantly. Managable.
@@dozenDevil I recommend using FastProxy for web browser, no need to constantly enable/disable VPN
@@TeamKomradeMain I will check it out. Thanks for the advice!
fun fact! (at least in the first game) after a while, crying becomes a criminal offense, giving double meaning to the line about crying and blind eyes (maybe someone missed/looked over the order)
The look of your face during the second verse was an exact mirror of mine. A combination of "what did I just hear" and "this is amazing". It feels like each song is just another step up the ladder. (Except ad infinitum, which was like an acid trip with marketing. Loved it, but it hurts)
And then I come to you to fill in the bits I missed, make sure I'm catching as much as I can. Since most other breakdown reactors to Stupes are rappers, it's nice to see his videos reviewed from the comedy angle.
I hope to see you both continue to grow and pump out the good content. Your work is very much appreciated.
Thank you, I appreciate this! 😁
As a french native, though I understand english pretty well and know how to use it, some of those worldplays weren't obvious at all for me, so looking at your reactions can help me appreciate even more so stups song even if I love them in the first place. Keep it up !
5:28 "back to this thing i am doing currently" - My New Life Motto 6:00 ah , Beauracra-HipHop gotcha 8:10 mindmeltingly Gruud... i said Gruud... my mind was melted 10:02 have to go back to hear the verse again cuz i was stunned forgot
As someone who's first and only language is English, I never quite wrapped my head around the "blind eye that's liable" or "air that needs conditioning" or "bleeping on the ceiling" lines
I'm not English, although I have learned a lot of it, even then I'm still nowhere close to knowing every idioms of it. And those I don't know being called out during reactions is part of what I love as well too ^^
HOHO I CLICKED SO FAST, I WAS WAITING FOR THAT ONE! Your reactions to Stupes are always great! Now onto actually watching the video
Same!
Beholder 3 is basically a stealth game where you are a motel/hotel owner working for the “government” and you hide cameras and plant fake evidence to report, its a quite interesting concept
Not hotel instead your the apartment manager
@@lindylou538 it’s basically the same thing
'Security' Cameras. This is such an amazing song that keeps getting stuck in my head.
You missed it the first time but the flip on ‘no one’s home’ appears in both choruses!
I'm so pleased to hear you break this one down, I actually didn't think this would be on your radar because as you've mentioned you're a comedy musician. Which is why I've not suggested Stupes' Kingdom Hearts song, really I just wanted to see how many Disney movies you could pick out.
I wouldn't mind though hearing you go through more of Random Encounter's songs though.
I need to get back to them. I've done a few RE songs, I like what I've heard.
And unless Stupes tells me otherwise (like they have with their RDR2 and FROSTPUNK songs) I'll probably check them out...they assured me this one was tongue in cheek enough for me, lol.
This song is definitely one of their best works in a while. I love all the flips and the rapid-fire pace. I enjoy singing along to their songs, which can sometimes be easier said than done, but this one is at just the right speed to make it challenging but doable. My favorite part has to be the opening to the second verse, from "To get through the day" to "You can trust it's a wonderful time"
You are THE video game song reactor. You have so much to say on just about anything. I want to model my methods along those lines. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you! Good luck.
Thank you very much from not-English viewers for your appreciation of our appreciation of your explanation of Stupendium's word flips.
One day Stupendium will reach such a recitation speed that even those who speak English will no longer understand it
He did get pretty close with spamton
True
This song was for a game I'd never heard of, but it was enjoyable as always! Definitely worth the Patreon support, it was nice to see my name in the list this time around.
18:54 sounds like "they're here"
you and skyler are the only people who can do stupendium justice when it comes to great reactions. Good job
Thank you!
Thanks for explaining all the double meanings, it’s true that for non native English speakers like me it’s easy to miss something 😅
Yay!! I was waiting for this reaction!! Thank you!! I appreciate how you explain the double meanings and lots of things I don’t really see or listen at the first time!! Love so much your reactions!! 👍👍
I think he said "They're here", at the end of the song.
This is the first of Stupe's videos im on at the end, dont regret it at all, such a good song as always
Finally you watched it, this song inspired me to make another zombie survival character (the observer)
little does he know he is actually playing the main character
NO ONE'S HOME is such a great title, cause Home is were you should feel safe but cause of the surveillance state you cant feel safe anywhere. "We all live here but its no ones home" Not even the Landlord is safe
Gotta love the flip on "no one's home/no one's home" there.
FINALLY, I WAITED FOR THIS REACTION! NICE
I always love when you do Stupendium songs reactions
At the end, the part you couldn't understand, he says "They're here"
Songs actualy taught me a lot in regards to learning the language, followed by minecraft videos and discord servers.... yes you have to have translator, urban dictionary and mayhaps an incognito card if you suspect something to be an enuendo
And yes I consider learning english grammar to be a torture as the only rule of english is that there is a lot of exeptions in this germano-romano-norman language but still it has one perk that makes me forget all of it's flaws... at least till someone grammar corects me: the word play potential... as someone whose primary is always consistant with full pronouncation of every letter in words (with like 5 exeptions... in the whole word repertoire)... I realy enjoy dad jokes
thanks for another great reaction, look forward to ur next reaction!
No new reaction next week, sadly...I'm out of town for a family emergency and I won't be able to record one in time, but hopefully the week after!
@@Insaneian hope everything will be ok with ur family emergency!
@@frozenzero6752 thanks 😌
@@Insaneian hope u and your family are doing well
@@frozenzero6752 much improved, I should have a new video this week. Thanks!
Well here we have the next one! Finally out. Well done Ian! Love it!
I would like to suggest a rather old Dan Bull song, which is his “we happy few” song. (If you haven’t seen it)
at the end he said "they're here".
Love that poster above the video
Thanks! It's for my Castlevania song! I have the posters available for sale on my Bandcamp page.
@@Insaneian anytime
That is my one of the favorite song from The Stupendium 💖 Thank you for explaining it so gently, understandable and great. Thank you so much 💗and Ofc i subscribed. 💯💖
I have been waiting all week, this song might include my favourite Stupes hook.
I am glad I am more patient than what I used to be. It’s not that this took too long is just that when I was younger I couldn’t even wait and hour due to my adhd but I am just happy this came out because it is better than it not coming out
i always took it as the place is someone's house, but not their home, which are 2 totally different things
Regarding the ministry member watching the landlord, the term "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" comes to mind. Who watches the watchers? Great video. :)
Never enough yammering! Let’s gooooo!
Yes! Someone finally noticed the gaslighting lyric!
I've heard of Beholder when it can out but I never knew they made two more games.
At it's core, away from the game this could be a song about paranoia in a dystopian world, depressingly it seems that such a world could be VERY close to reality.
This song did introduce me to McGuire which I subscribed to following watching it.
I have always been a huge fan of your reactions because you actually give a lot to your reactions, sometimes you do ramble a bit but I'd rather have you talk too much than too little every day of the week, thank you for your reviews and reactions
Well, thank YOU for your kind comment! I appreciate that!
I've never watched a music reaction video for this long
When it comes to Stupes' stuff, I find I have a lot to react to react to 😅 this is not nearly the longest one I've done, either.
16:00 Thanks for that from Hungary🇭🇺, this is one of the many reasons, I am always here, watching your reactions😇 and of course, I like your humor. (And of course to see your brain being melted 😉🤣)
18:58: "They're here!"
Ian, I just wanted to say that the last sentence says "The're here" so that was what he said
I watched a lot of reactions to this song, but I nor anyone I watched even mentioned or thought of the Smoke Alarm as a camera, I forgot those things flash to show owner that it works.
Yay more stupidium I’ve actually got a butch of mashups with his songs and there doing well
I think the animated portions are from the game
And actually, all the cameras can only be installed in the smoke alarms
19:05 “they’re here”
Nice shirt
Thanks! I accidentally wore it in last week's video too 😅
@@Insaneian that’s funny
I bought Beholder 1 and 2 for this song and I don't regret it!
( 16:20 ) You’re absolutely right. My English is pretty okay, and I can understand most words. However, certain combinations of words or phrases I don’t understand, like the “rifle through” in this video. This is one of the things why I love your reaction videos, keep it up!
Read the description it gives a basic sumerizatioj of the games plot setup
I interpret the "no one's home" as your home is a place where you should feel safe and should be able to say your opinion so zou dont fell at home
I know this isn't related to this game, but I was feeling really down today and needed something to put a smile on my face. So, I re-watched Stupe's Only Cans video. Laughter is the best medicine they say, well his videos are the cure I needed.
That's one of my favorites!
If you haven´t already you should listen to Stupendiums Song about Two point Hospital. The entire song is filled to the brim with puns (bad and good ones). It is definetly one of Stupendiums most comedic songs in my opinion.
I have seen that one! Check the Stupendium reaction playlist!
@@Insaneian If you want an even better puns song, try Milk Milk Lemonade, with 100+ beverage puns
@@randomcake1435 I've done that one...technically TWICE!
@@Insaneian Even better >:)
THE REACTION HAS ARRIVED AT LAST
yo man, ill be honest with you, in We Happy Few, one skill that is completely necessary if you want to save time is “Oh You” or whatever it’s called. It saves a lot of time when you’re able to run in front of people without them jumping you.
Ooh, thanks for the tip!
First video I've ever seen from you and it was great, I like indeed how you extrapolate the wordplay and the plurality of meaning of the lyrics, as a non-english native I understand but sometimes miss thing so it can help to have an even better appréciation of the Creation
i still think you need to see brian david gilberts "dances moving" series. its short enough to probably fit into 1 episode
18:58 It sounded like it said "Damien". Could that be a characters name in the game?
~15:10 - Exactly; behavioral conditioning. Like... classical conditioning. Giving food to an animal when good and doing... not-so-nice things when they're 'bad'... ... ... I also think the 'whistling' part might be a poke at 'dog whistles' (bits of language used to incite a certain mindset or ideal in those listening), but it might just be the mood of the song hitting me. ._.;
The whispers at the tail end of each chorus is "They're here..." I know, someone probably said it, but it's my favorite part. Especially the way it's used for, THEN against our star antagonist. Chills, man. :3
Again, it's possibly been said, but I like to think of the Beholder series as the Paranoia tabletop rpg played seriously and realistically, with no clones. You're assigned an apartment building, you and your family stays there, you tend to tenants... and you're told to find evidence of their 'unloyalty' to The Ministry. And this can include your family members. Bonus if you can find ways to actually be 'good', because the games are multi-pathed. Otherwise, normal point-and-click set in a normal world. Dystopic? What are you talking about? Glory to the Ministry~ >.>;
I would love to see how you play We Happy Few! Its jokes are close to a heart of classic English humour! Well, apart from some bugs.. Ugh, bugs.
I've played it for about an hour or so so far and haven't encountered any bugs really...other than the fact that the game more than any on my Xbox makes my TV not read the HDMI cord all the time, so the screen goes blank...often. I played Tunic right after and had no issues, but everytime I play WHF the screen goes black every 5 minutes. It's annoying and makes playing take forever.
as one of many non-native speaker watchers I'm joining to the words of appreciation of you pointing out and explaining idioms, twisters and all the other language and cultural references. I bet there are a lot of them left but the reaction will turn to a couple hour lection otherwise (which I'd like to watch tho). anyway, thanks a lot!
Yes, the animations Are from the game
Good one sir.
Sick video as always, Ian
Thanks!

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!
You're very welcome!
@@Insaneian , my second video from The Stupendium was "Find The Keys" ("Art Of Darkness" was first), and I watched for other people's reaction, but want more and more, 'cause I don't completely understand, what author says, example: Khal, No survival kit, Chuck, Tex, Fleisher, etc. But then you explained it, and I just: WOW, SO THAT IT IS?! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! You doing REALLY great job, helping people like me! I'm starting to love English language more and more, 'cause The Stupendium and you too
Forgive my imperfect writing manner and mistakes, please 😅
@@HidingInShadow you're welcome, I'm happy to help!
Wasn't expecting to see you reacting to this one, some good Lil jokes/plays in it. Think my fav bit was the gaslighting or the your paranoia is boring, everyone talks about it segment (paraphrasing)
Btw, an early comedic one from him is British summer jam*(I could be a Lil off on the name)
I love your channel keep up the great stuff!
Random fact the word he couldn't make out is 'they're here'
I've always imagined the line "blind eye that's liable" as one of those false mercy situations, as in, the ministry punished the person by blinding them in one eye and now are saying that they are innocent and the culprit is dealt with. Which makes the line "why are you crying" more sinister in that they might be saying that to someone who's in pain from losing an eye
Mostly the reason i think why people recommend you alot of songs not nessecarily comedic is because your channel its reactions dont constantly involves the typical fake 😱😭😫😩. In other words u are a better reaction channel then most.
Well, thanks! I appreciate that, tho I do try to stick to comedy, since that's what I know well...but I appreciate the suggestions anyway!

That one has actually been on my list to react to next, but kept getting bumped by other videos. Hopefully I'll get to it soon! Thanks!
this is truly a genius song. geometry dash layouts shall be made
Please make a reaction on "Want some fun" it is comedy don't worry, but it is a masterpiece
This suggestion might be a bit of an oddity because it's not a *song* but it has to do with one you've seen. Stupes just released a public part 1 of their behind-the-scenes of The Toybox. It's a full hour long, but if you'd be willing to react to something so long (maybe in parts), it might be a cool vid.
I probably won't react to it for two reasons. 1) it's decidedly very much not a song, so any BTS (aka Behind The Scenes) material is not likely to make it here, and 2)...I've already seen it 😅
@@Insaneian Absolutely valid, and hey, thanks for humoring me~

13:40 in beholder i reported my wife for crying after our daughter died and i sent my son into another country with his gf.
Given the whole oppressive regime angle of the game this is based off of, and my desire to see more reactions to Random Encounters, I'd suggest "Papers Please: The Musical", by Random Encounters. Papers Please is another game where you play a character who is working for an oppressive regime, very different in gameplay and style, but very similar thematically.
Ah, but is that song comedy? This one by Stupes was at least tongue in cheek enough to count, but I know not everything RE does is comedy...
@@Insaneian Certainly more comedic than their 12 Minutes: The Musical song was. It's not one of their more joke heavy songs, either, like the Stanley Parable one that you reacted to, but I would still say it counts as a comedy song. Honestly, if you can stretch this Stupendium song as a comedy song, then I'm pretty sure this RE counts.
If you want a recommendation for a RE song that is much heavier into the comedy, I might suggest "Engineers Are Your Friend: A Team Fortress 2 Song". You have to squint a bit and rely on some fan theories on TF2 to get an oppressive, dark backstory to the game, though.
Hey can you answer me a question? Does the Stupendium go by he/him or they/them?
They/them.
@@Insaneian Ah thanks for the clarification.
You say the flip in the hook the second time is different from the first time, but it seems to be the exact same chorus both times. Are you sure you heard what you think you heard? :P
