I see a few musicals a year off broadway and I actually did get to see Hamilton last month. It's unbelievable the demand for it, but I guess it's a good thing too, at least they're not freaking out about not getting into see something like Wicked
You know what is even more insane, the fact that in a few interviews where he talked about doing this, he said that he wrote this entire thing, basically the night before, the only thing that the band knew in advance, was that they were to perform the instrumental to MY SHOT and his only rehearsal for this entire thing, was earlier in the afternoon, so they could go over it with the dancers, cameras and lighting crew. He literally had this done in only 24 hours, the man is non-stop.
He’s fantastic, but to be fair that’s all SNL bits. Think back to any of your favourite bits, they were put together and shot in less than 24hrs. In fact, they do the monologue last, it’s usually just like a 5 minute thing, so to spend 24hrs on it and choreograph it all is a huge deal and investment for SNL
It's actually his way of saying "hello" to his friends the McElroy Brothers! www.buzzfeed.com/shylawatson/so-lin-manuel-miranda-doing-a-great-job-is-like-a-thing?.huDrdyo5YW#.oszlR0NYLo
@Angelo Fernandez He's just so used to waving his arms around and gesticulating when speaking for too long. He had to remind himself he wasn't actually going to rap. Like, "Not yet!"
I heard somewhere that the writers make these monologues and it isn’t always the host that writes it. This is one monologue that no writer in the back of SNL could possibly have written. That was all Lin Manuel Miranda and I am loving every moment
Its mind blowing his talent he's said before that this is one of the hardest songs to perform in Hamilton in his opinion and now he's doing a completely reworded version after just coming off the original for so long
Lyrics So I am not throwing away my shot I am not throwing away my shot My name is Lin-Manuel, I am hosting SNL And I am not throwing away my shot! I only barely knew anything about Hamilton or Lin Manuel Miranda prior to the airing of this episode. I watched because I enjoy SNL and I was BLOWN AWAY by this performance. I instantly became a fan of his and have since listened to the Hamilton soundtrack like a million times and was lucky enough to go see it in Chicago earlier this year. This man is crazy talented and I'm very happy he has become so successful.
When Lin dances, it knockes me out, I fall apart, because I'm so helpless and I'll never be satisfied to not be in the room where it happened because I'll practice the law and practically perfect it so I won't throw away my shot when I buy my tickets to go see Hamilton in the greateat city in the world. Boy, that felt legit.
It seems like he’s uncomfortable a lot of the time or just doesn’t know what to do with his body, but when he starts performing he gets INTO it and his confidence really shows

i like how no one realizes that even before the reynold's pamphlet, hamilton could have ran for president in 1796, but decided not to even petition himself as a possible federalist canidate. He decided instead to try to influene the federalist to make thomas pickeny president instead of john adams
andrew sutherland Exactly, but they knew that especially after the Reynolds Phamplet, there would be no way he would win a presidential campaign. Or that he would even run for it.
eliza schuyler-hamilton im not saying your wrong, but based what i read, the reynolds pamphlet actually did help him politically, probably not so much with his family or popularity, but the line "at least he was honest with our money" is accurate
andrew sutherland True, I think it's sort of a mixed thing. Some may say that he can still be trusted in politics, some may say that he can't because they care about what he did to Eliza. Then again, if we can elect someone who has scammed multiple people and make sexist and disgusting remarks, they may have elected Hamilton anyways. Difficult to say at the end of the day. Politics was far different, at least for a bit while there was the federalist/anti-federalist parties around. What was Republican back then may be Democratic today.
Hands-down the best opening of an SNL EVER! I do not know anything about Broadway and to be honest I'm not sure I have ever heard of him before this aired but I will certainly never forget him now! I bet I've watch this opening 20x this week. This is definitely a case of love at first first rap.
After this aired PBS aired a special on the making of Hamilton. Just like everyone else once I watched LMM for more than 30 seconds I,instantly became a super fan of the diehard verity. I have watched EVERY UA-cam video and anything else I can get my hands on so far. I really LOVE this guy!
Hamilton will change your life! Listen to it, know random facts about it, sing it in class (long story!) it is amazing. And believe me- till be even more obsessed with him after that.
Honestly one of the all-time best SNL appearances in history. What a great performance. I only saw Hamilton recently and now I'm obsessed with this dude
Hamilton is going to a watershed moment in musical theater history. From the music, to diversity in casting, we'll be able to look back in 20 years and tell which musicals came out before or after Hamilton.
Can we also appreciate the fact that there are few people outside of the world of theater who would have been able to handle the rewriting that must have happened after the newscycle on Friday???
He means: If you get to New York, try to get Hamilton Tickets, find that they're sold out until 2018, head back to your hotel room, bawl your eyes out, search the dark web for scalped tickets, find that the scalpels are too in love with Hamilton and have used up all their own scalped tickets for themselves, see an advertisement selling tickets at the worst seats for ten grand, spend the whole day trying to resist temptation by telling yourself that there are so many other musicals to see, listen to your favorite playlist to distract yourself, find that you actually put the Hamilton playlist on, succumb to temptation, buy those 10000 plus tickets, watch the show at the back of the house, love it, find that it was all worth it, repeat.
Oh! I got another one for Hamilton fan geeks like me: Lin-Manuel is hosting in Manhattan and we just happen to be in the greatest city in the world. #CompelHimToIncludeWomenInTheSequel #Work
Peter McDermott Dude, you can totally vote for Clinton if you want, but if you think she's a liberal, you're sorely mistaken. She's a moderate, at best - and she herself has admitted that! The leaked audio has her saying she sees herself occupying "center-left to center-right". So, straight from the horses mouth, and thus indisputable.
Literally just the fact that he's extensively read a book about one of the founding fathers and the beginning of america means he's more qualified, lol.
Lol the irony: People: So are you going to do a song from 'Hamilton'? Lin: NO!! It's Saturday Night Live! I want to do all the SNL stuff! Lin: [Does two songs from 'Hamilton' -- a parody of "My Shot" and that one bit from "The Reynolds Pamphlet"]
TheColorHopeIsBlue I think it's meant to be ironic. Like Justin Timberlake's 2011 monolog where he sang a song about how lady Gaga was the musical guest so he wasn't gonna do any singing
THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING IVE EVER SEEN HE MADE A COVER OF HIS OWN SONG ABOUT HOW HE WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT ALL HIS LIFE AND ABD MANAGED TO ROAST DONALD TRUMP WHILE DOING IT
Tickets are $175 (you can always pay more... but my tickets for the new cast were $175 apiece). The first time I saw it cost me $66, and the second time I saw it was free (long story). I am justifying the $175 because I want to see other people play the lead roles.
Erik Arustamyan My tickets for the new cast are for Saturday night, Nov 12. The new people will be excellent - Lin's replacement (who was Lin's alternate, performing several times a week for a year) gets slightly better reviews as a performer than Lin did... which makes sense, because Javier is just a professional singer/actor, while Lin also does everything else.
God I love Lin-Manuel Miranda. He's so beautiful, sweet, nice, and looks like a puppy dog. He's also really talented. He can sing, dance, act, and RAP. Like my god!!! That's a Quadruple Threat! He inspired a generation to learn about history! I bet not that many people even knew about Alexander Hamilton (I didn't) until his musical came around!!
This was really really smart. Rather than try to be hilarious, which LM is not really known for (Note: Not saying he isn't funny. I'm just saying he is not known as a comedian), he played to his strengths, throwing in a couple of really good jokes, but more than anything, showing a reverence and respect for the history of SNL. Lots of hosts (including many who weren't even BORN when SNL started) just kind of take it as a "Yeah, I'm famous now, so I'm hosting SNL. No big deal." But LM had the intelligence to be like "Um...BIG DEAL!" and really make the most of it. Good job Mr. Miranda.
-is 38 -is American -charismatic -knows more about politics than most -literally wrote a Broadway musical about American history -a person of color -the best Ngl I’d vote for him
He's such an inspiration, first he's writing and starring in some of the best musicals ever! Then he's writing for a DISNEY Animated Musical! Now he's actually hosting SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!! Is there anything this man cannot do!?!
'In this Hall, On this wall and I'm getting a piece of it, like Miley, Schumer, Tracy Morgan and this Piece of-' I almost fell out of my chair laughing! Also, in regards to the tickets it's easier to get into a nun's pants than it is to get tickets to Hamilton.
@YourOasis97--Wasn’t recognized for brilliance?? Miranda's written work for the show earned him numerous accolades, including the 2008 Tony Award for Best Original Score and the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Miranda’s performance in the show’s lead role of Usnavi also earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and the show won Best Musical. Three Tony wins and a nomination-- How is that not recognition??????????
There's just a joy in his voice, like a kid who's just seen snow.

It's great.
I also like how you put "listen" because we are all poor as fuck
^ true
doooo it. it's lit af
Trust me you will be satisfied
^what are you waiting for? what do you stall for?
Honestly one of the all-time best SNL appearances in history. What a great performance. I only saw Hamilton recently and now I'm obsessed with this dude
SAME
"Never gonna be president now." I DIED
same!!
Too bad it didn't come true. But it still was hillarious
TheatreInspired He played himself 😂
THATS ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUT
emilee acosta at least he was honest with our money
Theater folk, can I just have a moment of appreciation for the fact that in 2016 someone known almost exclusively for his work on stage hosted SNL?
No, I think they chose him for his role in How I Met Your Mother as "guy on the bus."
+Samuel Irvin
I think they chose him for his role in House as Alvie.
Hamilton is going to a watershed moment in musical theater history. From the music, to diversity in casting, we'll be able to look back in 20 years and tell which musicals came out before or after Hamilton.
rofl
Can we also appreciate the fact that there are few people outside of the world of theater who would have been able to handle the rewriting that must have happened after the newscycle on Friday???
Lin: "It is so great to be here in New York-"
Me: IN NEW YORK YOU CAN BE A NEW MAN
I'm the real Eliza Schuyler
He looks so happy whenever people start busting out in applause it's adorable :)
Joel Lau it isn't sold out until 2018. It's extremely expensive yes, but not sold out.
Joel Lau I hope to do this some day.. sigh.
Joel Lau a
You good, fam?
oh wow its in words
This is the first time in a while that the monologue has been the best part of an SNL episode
Oh, Lin-Manuel when you smile, I am undone! When you smile, I fall apart. And I thought I was so smart.
#YeahYoullBlowUsAllAway
Oh! I got another one for Hamilton fan geeks like me:
Lin-Manuel is hosting in Manhattan and we just happen to be in the greatest city in the world.
#CompelHimToIncludeWomenInTheSequel
#Work
Jill Stein believes vaccines cause autism and magic crystals have medical powers. Vote for a real liberal candidate. Vote Clinton.
Yeah you throw your vote away....
She isn't Trump. So...sold. :)
Honestly lins hands should’ve got their own skit
Just *breathe*. Lin always *made the grade*. In The Heights fans, you know what I'm talking about😁
Crystal Jones hell yeah
Crystal Jones ikr I noticed that
(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
breeeeeeeeeaaaaaaatheee
Wait! What'd I miss?!
"And this piece of... *pauses for a moment* *mumbles* never gonna be president now never gonna be president now"
I lost it at that moment! It was so perfect. Hell, the whole opening was perfect. 🎶Never gon be president now🎶
LivieDearest I DIED!!! I'm actually still laughing
That is my favorite part.
I love the genuine *pain* in his eyes at that moment
What so perfect is that's also a part from Hamilton. Amazing how they could incorporate it. Seriously, this was one of best openings ever. Ever!
This was perfect.
Also Can Lin please be president rather than the two choices we have?
Yes!!!
Please.
Literally just the fact that he's extensively read a book about one of the founding fathers and the beginning of america means he's more qualified, lol.
Exactly
ForeverMasterless so true
I forgot how good he looks in this. I did, however, not forget for a second how talented he is.
i never forgot how good you look
Can't believe Thomas Jefferson disliked this video over 100 times
A few of those might've been King George or Aaron Burr.
its the british side in georgia
nephilimgirlbooks he wants him on his side, but he just can't stand him
Lol the irony:
People: So are you going to do a song from 'Hamilton'?
TheColorHopeIsBlue what portion is of the Reynolds pamphlet
Thatpolishlife The part where he says, "Well he's never gonna be president now (never gonna be president now)!" before getting back to "My Shot"
That's the point
By the way CLANNAD
true dohhhh
He has no clue what to do with his hands I love it.
I have no clue what to do with your hands
*Me coming here three years later after Hamilton was on Disney plus*
I'm 3 years old
HE'S DOPE! LIN-MANUEL IS ON FIRE!
Andrew Kim yes
Andrew Kim EYYYYYYYY
Ringo Brat I guess Eliza got what she wanted when she said she wanted him to burn.
This was one of the best opening monologues in years lol. He didn't disappoint!
at 1:15 did anyone hear him say Washington heights and immediately think of the opening for in the heights
yeah that's where he grew up! hence the inspiration for in the heights
Yes
Believe it or not, Lin saying “twenty one pilots” is the exact thing I needed in my life
Holy shit, the Trump part made me drop my ice cream I was laughing so hard.
THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING IVE EVER SEEN HE MADE A COVER OF HIS OWN SONG ABOUT HOW HE WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT ALL HIS LIFE AND ABD MANAGED TO ROAST DONALD TRUMP WHILE DOING IT
His wave at the beginning was so cute wtf
It's not a wave lol it means "greatjob"
**great job**
Without a doubt: the best rap by an SNL host in an opening monologue ever! Lin-Manuel Miranda did not throw away his shot!
And i'm hoping i don't throw away my shot with you;)
"if you come to NY come see the musical"
Have you seen how much tickets cost and what the wait line is?
Tickets are $175 (you can always pay more... but my tickets for the new cast were $175 apiece). The first time I saw it cost me $66, and the second time I saw it was free (long story). I am justifying the $175 because I want to see other people play the lead roles.
Erik Arustamyan never gonna see Hamilton now, never gonna see Hamilton now...
Allie Schwarz the new cast isn't the same 😳 also for what day did you get your ticket?
Erik Arustamyan My tickets for the new cast are for Saturday night, Nov 12.
The new people will be excellent - Lin's replacement (who was Lin's alternate, performing several times a week for a year) gets slightly better reviews as a performer than Lin did... which makes sense, because Javier is just a professional singer/actor, while Lin also does everything else.
More like "Have you heard those tone-def replacements? They dont even have Groff Sauce!"
You have just summed up Lin-Manuel Miranda I a nutshell!
Maryun Wolf yes so true
Miranda.
I love that he seems genuinely happy and amazed that he is hosting snl.
Love that man.
I love your man

*Wow*
He called it, four years later.
He's such an inspiration, first he's writing and starring in some of the best musicals ever! Then he's writing for a DISNEY Animated Musical! Now he's actually hosting SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!! Is there anything this man cannot do!?!
YEAH WHATS NEXT WRITING MORE SONGS FOR DESNIEY AND EVENATULLY MAKING A DESNIEY MOVIE ABOUT HAMILTON LIKE BRUH
I was so pissed that he didn't have a rap battle with Tyler they missed such a great opportunity
woulda been so nice!!!¡¡¡¡

Yasss!
Aren't we all? :)
Just wish he was more recognized eight years ago for In the Heights but glad everyone is finally seeing his brilliance. i knew he'd go far.
@YourOasis97--Wasn’t recognized for brilliance??
Three Tony wins and a nomination--
How is that not recognition??????????
he's reminds me of an overly exited dad.
