Brandon, I don't think that engine is complete junk. Mind you I am more familiar with Sea-Doos than Po-Pos but it shouldn't be a big deal. Likely the problem with this engine was carburation not oil. Jet skis sit a lot and often develop carb problems due to the wonderful corn fuel we all have these days. I would think the back cylinder died due to being run too lean. Before you give up on this motor, I would check on eBay to see what a new/used jug, new piston, gasket set, and a set of rings for both cylinders would run. Hit the front cyl with a hone, and replace the back, I'd bet you could get the Po-Po back up and running for relatively little money. As for the sun faded rub rails, they usually can be brought back to life with a little massaging from a heat gun. The heat mixes the faded/oxidized plastic with the non-faded underlying layer and the color comes back fairly well. The upholstery etc you mentioned is generally not that expensive. With a little elbow grease, it is possible to take a piece of trash and make it look nearly new. It would be a shame to throw a savable jet-ski in the trash and think of all the videos you could make of the resurrection process.
There is still the rod/bearing problem, as well as the rest of the bottom end. But you're probably right about the carb, I didn't even think of that. It was probably only really running on one cylinder, and the prior owner thought as it started, it was good to go. If it were the only one I had, sure. But I have a good nice sea doo, and a nice spare engine/parts for it. If anything needs fixing, its that.
Good to see some more new tear downs and projects planned.
Thanks for taking us through the autopsy.
Good vid ... always nice to see a teardown inspection ...
Love it #Junkski keep up on the random videos very interesting. Can't wait to see the next project
I'm looking at buying a polaris virage 700 has 120 psi both cylinders. Is that acceptable numbers?
Looks to me it’s more of a Hydro-lock then lack of oil ! But we will never know for sure !
