Kevin, in spite of the somewhat risque factor, this show (and other game shows of the time) remained fresh and wholesome. They still are that way today. In fact, this show and WHAT'S MY LINE? remain my faves...
In Aus we had Blankety Blanks, I think was based on The Match Game? With Graham Kennedy, our answer to Groucho, he was so funny too. I think it was on mid-late eighties before political correctness overtook it.
Nan b.1937 is now 83. She was a USC film student. I've been to Mitchell SD in 1986. Nancy M. what a 'lady' with a lovely handshake with Fennemen. I hope she had a successful marriage.
Wow use to work at the north hollywood post office.. The Post Office is still in North Hollywood as I live near there now. I love these old shows.. Reminds me of watching them in the 1950's. No Reruns then.
One of the most enjoyable parts of watching this show for me is seeing all of these "babes of yesteryear," and hearing Groucho come off with lines that no commercial network would let anyone get away with these days. Among these young women are both Nan Peterson and Nancy Moss. I do have one question about Nan Peterson, though: It seems as if her "partner," Salvadore Consolo, knew the answer to "Biding My Time," but she just didn't want to listen to him--and they lost their chance at the "big money" as a result. Could anyone detect whether he really was trying to tell her the correct name of this song from the 1930's?
She was the only real contestant, it seems. It's hard to hear, but Salvatore seemed to say it was "The Man I Have", which is wrong. But she knew already that what she said was wrong and she chose to not saying anything and lose instead of give his suggestion. Funny. She's just one of those girls who gets rubbed the wrong way so easily and will carry that 30 times around the world.
Usually Groucho encourages co-operation between the 2 contestants. But here he allows the Norwegian woman to answer all the song titles by herself! During "Biding My Time" the guy tries to talk to her but she ignores him most of the time.
@@Spokenwisdom1 C'mon.. She was lovely. And I like brunetters, generally The second girl was very charming, too. And pretty. Both had beautiful smiles.
She was absolutely beautiful and she just said she didn’t want to be simple and my lord how could she ever be. But for him to say that was really just asking for it lol.
Simple does mean 'less' it means consider others more than yourself. The beginning of the breakdown of 'families'. No loving husband would ever not want the best for their help mate.
Re: escape artist, he kept his legs ~2 feet apart when they began to tie him up. Then when he began the escape, he jumped up and down one time hard so the rope became loose and fell a bit. Also, the rope probably stretched a bit.
@@Johnny53kgb-nsa She's the blonde at the beginning of the show. Her Twilight Zone episodes now number 4, insofar as yet another uncredited role has been identified. Salvatore got a little testy with George at the end but I think it was out of frustration because the snotty blonde didn't want to listen up him, so they lost.
Back in the day Groucho was a member of Hillcrest Country Club in L A. There were complaints about men playing golf without their shirts on hot summer days. So the club put a sign up on the 18th tee that shirts must be worn on the 18th hole as it finished coming into the clubhouse. Groucho saw the sign and immediately took his pants off and played the last hole with his pants off but his shirt on.

another Mystery Science Theater 3000 coincidence here... Nan Peterson was also in the movie Girls Town featured in episode 0601 of MST3K. The coincidence is this is the very next episode of MST3K after the one that had Frances X. Bushman who was also a contestant on a show in season 8 of YBYL.
I guess Miss Nancy was the best, perhaps the only, incentive for anyone in Las Vegas to watch the weather forecast ! And isn't it refreshing to see that in those days innocent fun was nothing more than just that. Imagine the scandal if a TV host tried to get tied up with a contestant nowadays...

On the game where they try to identify music tunes, I don't recall anybody ever winning on that one. That would be a tough category with too much risk involved.
There is an outtake from this episode that wasn’t aired that is one of Groucho’s greatest: Groucho: “Well now, suppose you became a famous actress, then you met somebody you liked and got married, would you be willing to quit acting and be a housewife and a mother?” Nan (blonde): “Well, I think if you keep your feet on the ground, you can combine both. That’s what I would like to do.” Groucho: “Well, if you keep your feet on the ground, you’ll never be a mother.” 🤣 (Nan Peterson was so beautiful, but I have to say, that is an ill-fitting wig.)
She has such a nice laugh and a good sport. She is not a psycho like 90 percent of the woman today. In side they crave for a man to give them attention but are too messed up because of simple mindedness by following women's equality in 100% of everything, that they are losing out on true happiness, joy and a full life with a good man. They deserve now what they don't get.
What do you mean ? He seems super straight. He said he was kind of strapped for cash. Maybe he had to work many jobs to make living. Maybe he was sexually "impotent" and was afraid to get involved with a woman and used all his "energy" into other activities. The 1950s were different too. Socially, sexually and naiveté.
