    Part 14:
With the help of my chainsaw, I'll cut down all the overgrown and shaded out dead pines which I will cut into log to build a sugar shack. The pines in this replanted forest are fat too overgrown and have been grossly mismanaged. The trees should have be cut and thinned nearly a decade ago. Removing the dead trees is a good start to rehabilitating the forest. Later, we will thin even more and get the forest ready for replanting and rejuvenating.
In this first part, we will mostly be cutting trees and then getting the site chosen. It's a lot of tree felling, and hauling to get our raw materials.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Kevin, butane doesnt really work below 0C very well; that's why camp stoves use isobutane that is good down to -10c or so. I am trying ouy my homemade hot tent right now and left a lighter in it with the stove off. It was -5c in here and the Bic wouldnt light; I had to warm it in my hands for a bit so it could warm up enough. Propane is good to like -40 if used with a low btu device

Forest fires happen the reason that for example that the fires in Australia were so bad and caused so many deaths was that the tree huggers stopped the government from creating fire breaks controlled burns etc in the name of ecology! Of course this directly led to millions of those critters they were trying to "save" turning crispy but I think over 80 human deaths.

Kevin, I just bought one of those Geneva lighters and you are right even on the high setting the flame is tiny and if your outside good luck getting it to light. So, I took mine apart and turned up the flame from the inside. Now on high, the flame is a good 3-4 inches high. Needless to say, I have to keep it on low now. LOL! It's definitely better than before. All you do is take out the 1 screw, pull the red collar off, and with the lighter laying flat take off the side panel. Next slide the low high lever off the wheel put the lever in the low position and put it back on the wheel and turn it to high. You can do this a couple times if you want but I think just twice will do the job. Then put it back together the opposite way you took it apart and you have yourself a good high flame lighter. Hope this hack helped. Now you don't have to waste money by throwing it out and other than it not lighting due to the cold this lighter will work well. I love your channel and the things you build are pretty cool. Especially for not spending hardly any money on all the things you have built so far. Keep the videos coming. They're great and I find you funny as well. Stay safe out there.

Butane boils at 30°F. Keep the lighter in an inside pocket and it will work just fine. In Canada and northern US States we use liquid propane for grilling. Propane boils at about -30°F. In southern US States they use butane gas for grilling. This past week a lot of Texans discovered that their grills would not light when temperatures dropped to near 0°.

Yes you can place stickers on your hard hat. You have place them at least one inch from the edges. This is so if you are welding, grinding or around sparks, hot heat, etc they will not burn you if they catch on fire. The stickers come under fire safety. They have no effects on your hard hat.

For future references, the fire starters are easier when you dip tissue or toilet paper in wax, doesn't matter what type they burn for about 5 minutes when you use double sheets, obviously you want to use a double boil system such as an old saucer inside a pot of boiling water and dip both sides then let dry

I fear nobody will listen to common sense though, trees need light and space to grow, otherwise they can end up rotting to the roots and that's when it gets dangerous! There's a VERY big difference between deforestation and helping new trees populate, I'd honestly of cut a few more back myself. :)

Break off pieces and use for starting fires. Sawdust would work too, but mixing two or three of the above together adds air pockets - Don’s sawdust may be too tightly packed.

As for the fire starter, you need air flow. I made one with dryer lint in a TP tube wrapped in newspaper. Had to deconstruct it to make it work. Lint placed lightly into a tube is best.

18:48 It is full alright...full of butane, which does not evaporate at that kind of temperatures... hence the lighter is not suited for outdoor use in the canadian bush in winter...
