If they want to make F1 child friendly they should start with banning all the toxic sponsorships. You cant moral grandstand about swearing if youre actively promoting gambling, crypto and alcohol. And thats just F1's own partners. The teams are taking money from all kinds of horrible places.
I get not swearing in a press conference, that's totally reasonable and would be expected in any ither job - when you're in front of clients/customers, keep it clean. But when you're actually dling the job, say what you like within reason. Team radios where we get to hear some frustration and emotion are great. MBS is coming across as foolish and petty, Max handled it perfectly with his outside press conference
Saudi oil company money is fine, tobacco money is fine, alcohol money is fine, but good heavens don't let the children think that an adult said a swear word!!!!!!
The requirement to watch your language on press conferences is reasonable, it happens in other sports too. During the races is fine as long as you don't use slurs for instance.
How about this, you think swearing in a live press conference that is broadcast at a time when children are watching is fine, stop watching F1. There was not a problem with swearing even 10 years ago. This is a modern issue that is a symptom of a larger erosion of basic decency and manners in society. I suppose you're fine if they use the C word as well?? Or is your arbitrary line drawn at the F word?

Appreciate you guys allowing people to make a point and blatantly curse in the comments under the videos related to this topic, just like I did under your initial short about this.
On team radio - you're a guest so either do not listen to it, or accept that people driving 300kph in extreme conditions are gonna have some juicy words going out from time to time. A press conference is a different setting. You would usually expect people to act professional and a part of that is a different language.
It's ridiculous to ban swearing while racing at 300kph. Just don't broadcast it. But not swearing during interviews when they've had plenty of time to cool down is really not a big ask.
I think you have hit the nail on the head by trying to be funny. Yes, Verstappen needs to act more maturely and behave like an adult. Spoiled brat comes to mind.
@@davidmatthews3093 it's just you, losing yourself in the blind hate towards Verstappen. @@erikvermolen8371 hell, I think even among people that don't like Verstappen, most of us look at this situation and support him and think he's handling it remarkably well 😅
FIA needs to learn about respecting its drivers as grown ups and also viewing their audiences as grown ups. We the audience by and large can take the f word. And don't talk about children. My son knew all the swearing words in my language when he was 6. Not from home, although some of them, but mainly from the school yard.
I believe Max...look at Casey Stoner. He didn't retire because of the racing, he retired because of all the extras the athletes are forced to do for sponsors that has nothing to do with racing but just marketing.
Isn’t the simple answer to not broadcast the moments when they swear? The whole hearing from the driver mid race is a relatively new thing. Drivers have probably been swearing to their teams for years.
In an official F1 press conference, keep it professional and respect the obligations. When we are eavesdropping on their radio messages, we are an observer only... and it is a privilege. We don't get to dictate anything.
Sometimes I think you guys are a little goofy bit I’m just a 21 year old American so who’s to judge. Besides the point, you make by far the best f1 news content on UA-cam. Keep up the great work, I especially love the technical videos!
Because they know Liberty Media will refuse to stop airing the swear words. And Liberty holds the rights to F1 so pissing them off can mean FIA get removed from stewarding F1. So FIA goes after the drivers instead.
I've been watching F1 on and off (only when available on national TV and now app) for many decades now and have seen many fellow countrymen struggle ever since and even before Jan Lammers and subsequent rear of the pack drivers. For me it has always been about the sport and when we finally had a talented driver in a race winning team, it got even more interesting. With Verstappen, I'm at the point where I almost have had enough with F1 and FIA and what they've done with the sport ever since it landed in the hands of an American company. I've said it years ago when this all started, that you've only have to look at the once noble sport of wrestling and what the Americans have done to it to earn some money. The Las Vegas race proved that for me and made F1 into everything the old greats like Senna and now, most outspoken, racers like Alonso and Verstappen hate about it. The whole swearing "issue" seems to be mostly a UK and Anglo-American issue. In many civilized countries you will never hear swear words being bleeped out. Even in national news programs where someone uses a body part or human activity to colorfully describe a feeling or situation, they leave it in, even when it's pre-recorded. It's simply part of language and tells everything about the person and the emotions of the moment. And the interviewer or commentator will never apologize on behalf of someone else about their language which is so common on UK TV. It's also very hypocritical. As if swear words or colorful language don't exist in their society. And also, as if people, even children, don't know the word behind the bleep. It only emphasizes it. When they want to make a change, trust is always better than control. Just the other week, I saw a bike racer being interviewed after a 200+k race and use a female body part to describe his day, a commonly used word for such a situation in our language. No bleeps, nor any remark from the interviewer. Only the man himself immediately said that he maybe shouldn't have used that word on live TV. That's where, in my opinion, real change happens. Work together as adults and be real.
Formula 1 TV has a choice to play or not to play a drivers radio messages that contains swearing. If swearing is banned, then just do not play that particular radio message (either with or without bleeping) - I think this is only really necessary for LIVE content. Radio message are not live, replays are not live Netflix Drive to survive was not live....
The Americans and FIA are doing their utmost to destroy the sport of F1, mainly by not understanding what it is really about. This is a great example of that. Max handled the situation with grace!
The grid girls were just silly and of their time. Did it really add anything? I’m a dad of two girls who might want to race one day. Glad they’re gone. No swearing in press conferences totally legit, no swearing in the heat of the moment in the cockpit. Absolutely fucking ridiculous
@@MrSunnyBra the ones who protested against that move the most were women & models. F1 provided a great opportunity for models who couldn't win in peagant competitions. Mostly pseudofeminists celebrated the removal of grid girls.
It's not just about swearing, it's also about better understanding the drivers and teams by hearing what they're really saying. The whole point of broadcasting team radio at all is to give a candid look into what is going on and how the teams operate, how the drivers think. You deprive the audience of that when you arbitrarily curtail their language, which makes the sport itself less interesting to watch.
Love Max's honesty he really only cared for one World Title and the others are just extras. Unlike Lewis who is petty around certain things Max keeps it real to the point!
Lmao, you describe the king of petty behaviour, Max, as not being petty 😂😂😂 Max used unacceptable language and then acted like the petulant child he always is when held accountable for it.
Not swearing in the FIA press conferences makes sense, but if you are going to broadcast radio chatter then you need to understand that you are going to get what you get.
It’s not even on the list! There is nothing immoral about swearing so long as it isn’t aimed at someone, which in most cases in F1 including this one it’s not. In some cultures it’s mildly impolite - that’s about it.
No, a private company cannot impose community service. In the Netherlands, community service can only be imposed by a judge within the criminal justice system. It is a legal sanction governed by the Dutch Penal Code (Articles 22c et seq.). The Public Prosecution Service can also propose community service through a penal order, but private companies do not have the legal authority to impose such punishments. A company can, however, take measures like suspension or dismissal if an employee breaks the rules. However, this falls under labor law, not criminal law. Source: Dutch Penal Code, Articles 22c et seq.
FIA's stance on swearing becomes even more comical with rally. Whenever a rally driver loses his temper due to mechanical failures or coming close to dying, or coming close to killing someone else, the FIA will throw a few thousand euro suspended fine at the driver. Because you are not allowed to show human emotions.
The funny thing about this whole swearing matter is that there's technology to bleep out swearing, especially if it's something that is televised. Or if that's somehow out of reach for F1, maybe don't air the parts where swearing is involved which F1 and FOM have control over? The irony is that DTS airs these radio messages uncensored. Literally the reason anyone would know for sure Leclerc used the f-word in Monaco 2022 was because of the trailer for DTS Season 5 that showed that moment without the bleeping. You didn't even need to look it up anymore, DTS literally throws swear words in your direction in all its glory. And even with all that...swearing? Really? Let's be real here one way or another children are going to hear swear words whether in songs, movies, etc. And if you're watching F1, a place that can brew swearing with the high-intensity environment, it's a hazard you take just as how you are exposing children to potentially catastrophic crashes like Silverstone 2022 or Bahrain 2020. If you don't want your children to hear swearing, then don't let them watch these things, especially the press conference where literally nothing of interest to children is happening.
Ultimately it's up to the F1 tv rights holders to decide what they broadcast. Lets not all forget how much Gunther Steiner is celebrated for using the F word
The line between being celebrated and being mocked is very thin in his case. It ends up being sad that nevermind his performance as team principal, he'll be remembered basically for having been a pottymouth.
What also always seems to be overlooked is the fact that when English isn't your native tongue the word "Fuck" doesn't have the same connotation as to native speakers
It has nothing to do with it language perception, it's just cultural and depending on your own ideology. The American conservatives have a huge problem with it and they try to make it seem like it's an objective thing that everybody espouses. Dutch people don't mind at all. I'm Greek and the word fuck has exactly the same connotations with our equivalent γαμώ. It can be used in all ways from offence to praise to surprise and nobody but the most conservative people mind it, with the exception of the performative civility of TV. It's mostly a puritanical effort by some people to impose some "values" that are almost purely a facade. In short absolutely nobody hear would feel offended if you said "my car is fucked", in whatever language.
@@PinkAsAPistol to a point I agree, but you can't dismiss the cultural connotation. In Dutch we swear a lot with diseases. For example you can call someone a "kankerlijer" which is literally translated to cancer-sufferer. This is considered very offensive in Dutch. My non-Dutch native coworkers consider it not nearly as offensive as natives do.
@@mchaste2019 Yes I see your point on that one but I am not sure about the cause being whether it's your first language. I'm Greek and to me calling somebody a cunt carries a misogynist connotation so I do not like it. But some native English people use it and some not.
@@GloomGaiGar That's because he was FIA president for too long. Live long enough to become the villain and all that. MBS manages to piss off everybody already in his first term.

Best intro ever
On team radio - you're a guest so either do not listen to it, or accept that people driving 300kph in extreme conditions are gonna have some juicy words going out from time to time. A press conference is a different setting. You would usually expect people to act professional and a part of that is a different language.
It's a press conference for the writing press. What are you talking about?
Ben Sulayem has no business being in the FIA.
I've said it so many times: the videos you guys make are such high quality. Much appreciated!
Wait.. the clown that slammed a car into the wall from the start line is still head honcho at FIA?
Fia - steered by UAE.. where it is not allowed to swear. Any questions?
It's ridiculous to ban swearing while racing at 300kph. Just don't broadcast it. But not swearing during interviews when they've had plenty of time to cool down is really not a big ask.
No interviews would be the best option though. The drivers will 100% support that.
We all want to hear the bleeps when there is an incident.
Why doesn't MBS voice concerns about races happening in countries who violate human rights instead?

All drivers should swear like freaking sailors next race.
Isn’t the simple answer to not broadcast the moments when they swear?
The whole hearing from the driver mid race is a relatively new thing. Drivers have probably been swearing to their teams for years.
Let the drivers do whatever they want, regardless they bleep out the curse words so it wont matter.
Kids are exposed to worse things online LMAO.
Love you guys. Thank you for the little video of him crashing on the straight.

Why is the FIA president worrying about a broadcasting issue when Liberty Media is in charge of broadcasting???
Because they know Liberty Media will refuse to stop airing the swear words. And Liberty holds the rights to F1 so pissing them off can mean FIA get removed from stewarding F1.
So FIA goes after the drivers instead.
As a former sailor, I am not offended.
Just replace the drivers with AI already. Bunch of robots driving robots.
Don’t forget to use AI to moderate and censor the robots just incase someone takes offence to their binary attitudes.
Tried it F2 cars. It was fucked lol

Fuck this shit. Racing is intense, let the passion out.
Of all the morality issues that could be discussed within F1, driver language is way, way, WAY down the list in order of importance.
It’s not even on the list!
There is nothing immoral about swearing so long as it isn’t aimed at someone, which in most cases in F1 including this one it’s not.
In some cultures it’s mildly impolite - that’s about it.
the two examples with Hamilton at the beginning are at least justifiable as a safety measure, but swearing is a bit of a stretch innit
This is more a WRC problem than an FIA and rallying issue. WRC GmbH itself is a little dictatorship even without the FIA
This reminds me of when FIA tried to restrict drivers to one helmet design per season. Desperate.
Replace the bloody FIA president
FIA has been becoming increasingly parental in terms of dealing with the drivers. An unacceptable trajectory!!
Do two broadcasts: one uncensored & one censored. See what people choose.
Ultimately it's up to the F1 tv rights holders to decide what they broadcast. Lets not all forget how much Gunther Steiner is celebrated for using the F word
Gunther's a beloved icon, that's the difference
and the F1 rights holder is not the FIA, so why is the FIA going after Max and not the FOM?
The line between being celebrated and being mocked is very thin in his case. It ends up being sad that nevermind his performance as team principal, he'll be remembered basically for having been a pottymouth.
Gunther's swearing was only on DTS which, ironically, F1 and the FIA happily promote with no issues,
Wonder how MBS was om the radio after crashing that renault f1 car 😂
